Jim Carrey said that being in the Grinch makeup was like being buried alive every day. He told Ron Howard that he couldn't do the movie, but they were able to help him cope by hiring a specialist who trains CIA operatives how to withstand torture. Ron Howard wore the makeup himself for one day shooting so he could appreciate what Jim was going through in the role.

I own all 3 major versions of this story on blue ray, and make it a yearly thing to have a Grinch day and watch all 3, cause all 3 are really good in their own ways. (Yes, even the modern one from Illumination) Also, if I remember right, Cindy Loo's actress actually grew up to become a proper singer. She fronts "The Pretty Wreckless" if I remember right.

I like how this whole movie could be a Greek Epic or something. Because certain characters feel like they could be stand-ins for certain Greek Gods. The Grinch is obviously Hephaestus. He's "ugly" and therefore shunned by most of society. He lives in a mountain (maybe dormant volcano?) and he's an inventor and craftsman. He's highly intelligent and it shows in his home decor and workshop area. So, if the Grinch is Hephaestus, then Martha May HAS to be Aphrodite, the goddess of beauty and love, also ends up being Hephaestus' husband. She also feels like Jessica Rabbit from Who Framed Roger Rabbit? Just that unbelievingly beautiful woman that seems unattainable by others and is married to an unusual husband. Mayor Augustus May Who has to be Ares. He's always willing to start a fight, he's a HUGE bully to the Grinch and Cindy Lou, and nobody should like him,

I’ve seen people come to not like this movie in recent years, which is fine to each their own, but I will say this. Compare to a lot of other Grinch and Dr. Seuss adaptations that have come out after the original 2D shorts, this is one of the few versions imo, that at least looks and feels like the people behind it put a lot effort into the production. Like at least this feels like it gives a damn about the product and at least has a basic understanding of the general message.

Plus the backstory for the Grinch, is honestly believable. Like I’d accept that as like his reason for hating Christmas.
