Fun fact, is that Ke Huy-Quan (Data) had promised his mother he wouldn't swear, so that's why in the first booby trap scene, it called for him to swear, but he spells it out 'Holy S-H-I-T!' instead to split the difference. Was great :) If you think about it, many of his gadgets are anti-bully. Bully Blinders, the Slick Shoes (for getting away), the boxing glove for someone that grabs him.

When Sloth yells, “Hey, you guys!” he’s quoting the opening of The Electric Company, a 1970s educational program that was basically an answer to the question, “How do we get the attention of kids who’ve decided they’re too old for Sesame Street?” Opening theme: kzbin.info/www/bejne/m32ZqGiYh8yNppI

Great reaction! One of the absolute best all-ages adventure movies ever made. Full stop, no argument. This is a movie anyone can watch and enjoy if they're kids or at least remember the excitement of adventures as a kid. The cast was brilliant, the story was brilliant, and the whole thing was brilliant. It still makes me sad that they built this entire ship for the movie, and when it was over they tried to find a home for it, tried to give it away, but no takers. It was busted up for scrap. Seriously sad. But I loved that they hid it from the kids (excluding Feldman who I think stumbled into seeing it early) until they shot the scene so that was their real reactions to it. I'd have been impressed as heck too to see that towering over me. 😲 The late John Matuszak, former NFL defensive lineman, played the role of Sloth and had fun with it. He died before he was 40, which is a shame, but he had both health and substance issues which contributed to that early end. Joey Pants and Robert Davi played great roles as the brothers in the movie. Anne Ramsay was great as Mama Fratelli too. In the scenes where Mama whacks Jake, she was directed to actually hit Robert Davi as hard as she could for realism. 😀 And I was always impressed by Jake's singing voice, which I figured was dubbed in, but I found out later that Davi had actually been classically trained for opera singing. It also amused me when I learned that the woman who plays Rosalita, and who is American born and fluent in both English and Spanish, helped Corey Feldman learn how to say the properly lines where he's leading her around the house, "translating" for her. She was also amazing and perfect in her role. I just love watching her react to the events in the crazy house. 😀

As a 70's baby and an 80's kid, Goonies and E.T. more than any other movies of the day captured the Fun and Essence of 80's kids PERFECTLY. We were Inquisitive and Adventurous, we rode our Bikes Everywhere, we only stayed home to watch cartoons, the Rest of the time we were Outside with our friends! I was the Sean Astin of my group, well Part him and part Chunk tbh. The World wasn't Viewed on a smartphone or laptop...you Had to Go OUT and Explore it, See it for yourself. We Made Our Own FUN and didn't Depend on Mass Media to Entertain Us 24/7, We had No Social Media as we Had to go OUTSIDE to Be Social. But one of the things that Hasn't changed since then...Kids apart from the Technology...are Still the Same Kinda Kids TODAY as we were back then. I look at the kids at the bus stop when I take the 6yr old to wait for the school bus...and I See the Same Personalities. Really in the few instances in Today's films and shows that Try to Nail that 80's feel, only Stranger Things has managed to get the CLOSEST if not Spot On to nailing the era. Everything else has Failed to do so. Even though I'm 49 now, the Goonies MAKES ME FEEL YOUNG. At Heart at least. Because even though the Goonies Characters are Unique...I SEE People I KNOW in them, from the kids to their Parents, I KNOW these characters because These characters were...Are US 80's kids. The 80's as far as I am concerned is The GREATEST Era in Film history hands down...there has been No Equal to it since. It inspired the Greats FUN, the Greatest Action, the Greatest Comedy, the Greatest Horror and the Greatest Sci Fi and Drama. Because it was ALL NEW. All One Offs, All Special because of the Rarity and VARIETY. The Greatest Era of FULFILLMENT in FUN and EXPERIENCE so far. Everything since has been a greater focus on Sequels and Reboots and Reimaginings with Fewer and Fewer stand Out, Stand Alone stories. Like Big Trouble in Little China...I DON'T and DO at the same time, WANT a Sequel....but that Magic Couldn't be Recaptured I don't think and it's a PERFECTLY REWATCHABLE story that Really, Like the Goonies, NEVER GETS OLD.

I saw this movie as a kid so many times I think it really made me fall in love with adventure movies. It has such great "kid logic", like this is how a dangerous treasure hunt would happen in a child's mind.

This movie was my jam back when I was a kid! It's because of this movie almost every little boy at my school wanted to go on a treasure hunt.

Excellent movie. And, yes, we were a lot more feral and independent as kids in the 80's. During the summer, we'd be off on our bikes at the crack of dawn, and as long as we were home by dinner time or the street lights came on, we were good. Our parents had little to no idea where we went or what we got up to. Including roaming drainage tunnels and wooded areas.

There should be a Goonies drinking game: take a drink every time someone mispronounces a word, every time chunk breaks something (twice if he was deliberately set up to do so by another character), every time we hear Data's theme music.

From the first time seeing this movie as a kid till now it has been one of my favorite movies. I have to admit I was afraid of Sloth the first time I watched it. I thought the actor really looked like that till I found out it was, John Matuszak, who’s been in lots of movies as well as played in the NFL.

According to Sean Astin, Spielberg was involved with this film so much that he was basically a co-director. American football player John Matuszak was Sloth.

The Goldbergs did a great Goonies tribute episode and their costume designer found the actual Chunk shirt in the studio's inventory and it is in the show. It was actually a woman's blouse.

So many lines from this that me and my brother and friends have been quoting for over 30 years now. When someone says the wrong word you'd reply with "that's what I said I'm setting booby traps." Someone has to pee " hey Mikey gotta go to the bathroom" And of course "hey you guys" was the most used out of all of them.

This film has inspired references/easter eggs in so many other films/shows since: Jurassic Park, Stranger Things & Deadpool 2 just off the top of my head. There's a brilliant BTS/deleted scenes video on here (channel is "Hats off Entertainment") that's well worth a watch too, with a whole sub-plot involving gorillas escaping from the Zoo & the Octopus is explained.

A GREAT kid‘s adventure movie! The pirate ship „The Inferno“ was built using the design from the 1940 Errol Flynn movie „The Sea Hawk“. The ship was certified sea worthy by the US Coast Guard and could have been sailed. The ship was destroyed after filming as no one wanted to claim the vessel. I remember seeing an ad in a Spokane newspaper in 1989 or 90 which had the ship up for sale. Guess there were no takers as the ship was 105ft long and would have needed a large crew to man her. But what a sight she would have been…… Cheers

Absolutely perfect cast for a perfect movie. This is what defines the 80s. Maybe we made it too perfect and that is why nothing else can meet such high standards these days. Either way, glad you guys watched this and glad you enjoyed it! Next up, Revenge of the Nerds.

Near the start, "why bother peddling then?" There were bicycles back then that didn't have free spinning peddle shafts, so the peddle crank shaft was connected to the rear wheel via the chain... and the faster you can peddle the faster the rear wheel spun... same way backwards, the faster the rear wheel spun the faster the peddle shaft was forced to spin.. this is why dude was peddling when the car sped up, not that he wanted to, but because he couldn't move his feet off the peddles at the time

This movie perfectly encapsulates the 80s adventure. We all rode off weekend mornings on our bikes and wouldn't come home till dinner. There were weekends my brother and I would put easily 50 - 80 miles on our bikes exploring roads and trails etc. Was a very different time. This is one of those movies that as much as we all want a sequel, it honestly should never get one... because nothing can live up to it. Also, Anne Ramsey in this role scared the absolute shit out of me as a kid. A more modern homage this this Spielberg style kids adventure is Super 8. Really fun film that also perfectly captures the group of kids as friends... nicknames, friendly insults, etc.

13:53 Don't forget who wrote the screenplay 😊 Also, The one brother who wore a hair piece (who kept saying he *didn't* wear a piece) was also Cypher in The Matrix. The other brother who sang Italian was one of the "Agent Johnsons" in Die Hard. If you recognize Stef, currently she is doing the comedy series Sprung and she was also in the very funny sitcom Raising Hope. Mikey and Brand's mother was the police psychologist in all the Lethal Weapon movies...and to associste more Hollywood royalty with this film, throughout the 80's and 90's she was married to Robert Zemekis.

Throwin' in my 2 cents here about my history with this movie. I was born in 1998, and the first time I watched The Goonies was when I was about 5 - 7 years old, so in a way, I found out about this movie "after it's prime". It's all thanks to my Mom for putting this on and watching it with me one night back when I was that young, and I have loved this movie ever since, I still have the original dvd with me to this day. I am 24 now, and will be 25 in August, and I still love putting on this movie if I either want to watch something, or just want some good background noise.
