Many people agreed with Science 2020's attitude in the 1970's. US Senator S. I. Hiyakawa (sp?) of California criticized returning the Canal Zone by saying, "We stole it fair and square!"

@Gitte: Thanks. I'd never heard the Panama Canal story from the Panamanians' point of view, and I also learned about Panamanian politics as well. (Not surprised it partially revolved around the canal.)

You might have mentioned the political scandal in France about the financial manipulations of stock in France by politicians and financiers in 1893. It was one of the biggest scandals of the day, and among those caught up in it were De Lessups, Eiffel (of the Tower fame), and Georges Clemenceau.

@@iammrbeat There are lots of interesting traffic systems regarding the early United States... There's one canal in Wisconsin I think, connecting a river to Lake Michigan, whose history includes a small inter-state war over land posession, "How the States got their names" reported on it in its borders season and the book. Also the erie Canal in New York, cutting off the long way around a lot of canadian territory and all along through the St Lawrence to the great lakes and connecting the East Coast to them "directly"... And the Interstate System of Eisenhower probably deserves a whole series of its own ;-) with another nice "how was that even possible" story about the Alaskan Highway connecting the distant state to the rest of CONUS by land through the US Army Corps of Engineers laughing at anybody making such fine videos as you do.

Awesome video. Love it. Did the British have something to do with the canal building? I think I heard about it somewhere. I also think the video would've been more understandable if you had just mentioned the whole process of this canal making which would make the whole chronology of this more easy to grasp and consume.
