The third of a pint milk bottles were the free school milk issued after the war to ensure the fitness of kids. Introduced in 1946, withdrawn by Thatcher the milk snatcher in 1971. In the summer they went off quickly and in the winters they were stood on radiators to melt them. Then some o us got clever and took them home to mum.

The "rollock" is the yoke that was in a cast iron toilet cistern. It pivoted or rocked in the middle, you pulled on the chain and it lifted a cast iron "bell" over the syphon. The small milk bottles were a third of a pint. No idea what that is in new money!

We used to suck the cream off the top of the unused 1/3rd pint milk bottles at out in the shelter shed at primary school when on milk monitor duty, only during winter of course…!
