I like when Nigel and Aaron work together as with both their sense of humours, does not matter what you bring up, never thought with the amount of garbage all the magnet fishers were removing from the waters, that so fast some of these bodies have nothing left to catch. Imagine if your waters could get cleaned up, healthy fish to catch, being able to swim in it and eventually drink it. That day comes they can thank all you magnet fishers. Another Nut, that makes three in the camera, LOl

You are right about the horseshoe. Those are cleats for traction. Nowadays you would get screw-in studs. Good for ice too. The screw-in studs are usually made of borium.

Nigel, I would like to express my thanks to you , Peaky, and the others for having the closed captioning on your videos. Being partially deaf, it really increases my enjoyment of your videos. I do quite enjoy the drone footage also. They show the countryside and buildings I will never be able to see in person. Thanks to you all. That track hammer was a really great find. The spanner was a nice find, as was the double jack hand hammer. ( I worked a job in an area and painted all my tools bright pink. Easy to find on the ground and most thieves wouldn't want them, as too easy to ID.) That big horse shoe was likely used by a horse on the towpath. The big caulks, IIRC, helped give the horse traction in muddy areas. Great video. Thanks.

18:08 - From the shape, I'd think it's a bearing block - possibly from a belt and pulley driven machine shop drive line.

Those lumps of steel with like a handle grip are out of concrete sleepers to anchor the rails down with them curl clips Nigel

13:48 and 23:48 are track anchors. They keep the rail from migrating lengthwise up or down the line and eventually making gaps between different individual sections of rail or breaking a fish plate. The newer version are those things that look like a piece of bar has been bent 10 different ways.

Crayfish suitably boiled & served over a plate of pasta are delicious. 😊 We catch them from mountain pools /streams, not sure if they're recommended to eat from canals.🤢

Grolsh top - that brought memories. We used to drink a few btls when needing sealed containers for olive oil (gasket between cap & glass, excellent for eliminating oxidation). Bought excellent olive oil @ wholesale but came in 2ltr-3ltr cans. Grolsh btls came in very handy @ home :)
