I bet most Catholics don’t know about this. Just because burning was the regular thing to do doesn’t mean it should be dismissed and thus acceptable - especially when these atrocities were committed by those who are supposed to be “wonderful God-fearing Men”.

Paul IV's health began to break down in May 1559. He rallied in July, holding public audiences and attending meetings of the Inquisition. But he engaged in fasting, and the heat of the summer wore him down again. He was bedridden, and on 17 August it became clear he would not live. Cardinals and other officials gathered at his bedside on 18 August, where Paul IV asked them to elect a "righteous and holy" successor and to retain the Inquisition as "the very basis" of the Catholic Church's power. By 2 or 3 pm, he was close to death, and died at 5 pm. The people of Rome did not forget what they had suffered because of the war he had brought on the State. Crowds of people gathered at the Piazza del Campidoglio and began rioting even before Paul IV died. His statue, erected before the Campidoglio just months before, had a yellow hat placed on it (similar to the yellow hat Paul IV had forced Jews to wear in public). After a mock trial, the statue was decapitated.[21] It was then thrown into the Tiber. The crowd broke into the three city jails and freed more than 400 prisoners, then broke into the offices of the Inquisition at the Palazzo dell' Inquisizone near to the Church of San Rocco. They murdered the Inquisitor, Tommaso Scotti, and freed 72 prisoners. One of those released was Dominican John Craig, who later was a colleague of John Knox. The people ransacked the palace, and then set it afire (destroying the Inquisition's records). That same day, or the next day (records are unclear), the crowd attacked the Church of Santa Maria sopra Minerva. The intercession of some local nobility dissuaded them from burning it and killing all those within. On the third day of rioting, the crowd removed the Carafa family coat of arms from all churches, monuments, and other buildings in the city. The crowd dedicated to him the following pasquinata. Carafa hated by the devil and the sky is buried here with his rotting corpse, Erebus has taken the spirit; he hated peace on earth, our faith he contested. he ruined the church and the people, men and sky offended; treacherous friend, suppliant with the army which was fatal to him. You want to know more? Pope was him and that is enough. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pope_Paul_IV

"The princes of Germany, now followers of Luther, write to the pope, protesting the degrading, inhumane treatment of Lupatino." Too bad we have no record of the bishop of Jerusalem writing a letter to Felix, protesting the treatment of his brother in Christ, the Apostle Paul. Seems like an influential guy like James the Just, putting his weight behind the Apostle Paul's innocence might have spurred an early release. The Jerusalem church was, by this time, a defacto sect of Judaism. With James as the head of that faction and with Pharisees and priests under him, he might have done SOMETHING. Alas, no record exists of any such attempt. Probably a historical oversight. No record in the bible or anywhere else of James pleading for Paul's release. Curious that...

I think the lesson to be learned from history is, that when it comes to religion NEVER try to work within the system. Jesus tried it and it got Him killed. The Apostle Paul tried it and He was betrayed by his church as well. Unless you have a death wish, exit your denomination and simply believe and obey God's word.

No other small country can compare with Greece in terms of impact on human benefit. Much of Europe has never been Catholic or Protestant .. The largest Christian country in Europe is Russia and Orthodox Christians. In fact, Russia & Greece are the only European countries that defended Jews and welcomed Jews with open arms. Also, Greece, has a deep rich good history with the Middle East. And that's something the English and Germans and Catholics or Protestants will never understand .. Modern antisemitism comes from the Middle Ages mostly from the Catholic Church but also the Protestant Church had a lot to do with it. .. kings and queens of England are pretty racist. You cannot blame Europeans for what the Catholic and Protestant did to the Muslim & Jew, indeed.

The Inquisition protected Christianity from heresy

John 16:2-3 'They will put you out of the synagogues, yes the time is coming that whoever kills you, will think that they offer God service. These things they will do to you because they have not known the father nor me.' These are prophetic words, the words of Jesus Christ spoken to His disciples in the closing days of His ministry. The Spanish inquisition and any other were shockingly barbaric in nature and wantonly destroyed human lives, which Jesus Christ died to redeem. It only showed clear evidence that these men were utterly devoid of the presence of God in their hearts. The Creator does not force the will of man, He has made us Free Moral agents, free to accept or refuse His call to live sanctified lives. The true purpose of the inquisitions therefore, was in fact to destroy Christianity, teaching for doctrine the commandments of men but the blood of the martyrs accomplished the very work, the inquisitors meant to crush out! It was seed sown to spread the gospel of saving grace far and wide, declaring that JESUS CHRIST is LORD and CONQUEROR ETERNALLY!!

@@micheletoussaint5168 you give a great example of why Holy church was right. You use scripture only to make your point but not to find the truth. Did you ever ask if Saint Jerome had an interpretation of this scripture? Or Augustine? You haven’t because your heresy convinces you that you are your own authority. This is why the church had to burn the blasphemous books. I found it humorous that the video made two references to the church burning translations of the bible in the vernacular. Failing to mention that the printers made numerous errors that contributed to falsehoods, for eaxample translating the latin into german with the command to “commit adultery.” This video shows the mercy on the part of Holy church. They had all the power and could have unmercifully killed their enemies without restraint but they, as the video shows, with the heart of their Master let their enemies be in prison cells for 14 years to repent. Because they wanted these heretics to repent and return to the one true God. They refused because they thought themselves even more knowledgeable than Augustine, the pope, and Jesus Christ. This is why when the Dominican Roman inquisitor wrote of the protestant heresy he said: “It pains me to move in the direction they in their pernicious obstinacy force me to go. They have no reverence other than their own opinions. We ask them where they get these maddening doctrines and they can bring forward no teachers, especially the fathers of the church. Even worse they claim their interpretation superior to that of the tribunal, the teachings of the Church, the Pope, and even for some if scripture finds to them a obstacle they trample it and boldly declare themselves a minister of the gospels. And when the convincing on the part of the Church has failed and the sweet odor of right doctrine cannot persuade them we hand them over to civil authorities. Hoping that they would still save their soul and return to the Mistress of All Grace entrusted to their care. But even as the flame is lit under their feet they scream not one word of repentance or remorse. That is when I am most vindicated, knowing that they would attempt to destroy the Church of Christ, the right order of society, and anything else to idolize their delusion.
