Al Capone once said "You can go far with a smile and a kind word but you can go alot further with a smile and a gun." The mob in America was the reason why we didn't have to deal with Cartels and just absolutely vicious gangs because they kept them at bay but now the mob is still here but it's no where near the staggering power they had 90 years ago.

I live in Rochester NY. I had a family member by marriage in our family in the 60's in the mafia. He was arson for hire I believe, his name... Vincent 'Jimmy the Hammer' Massaro was murdered and started a massive Civil War in the city... they couldn't find him for days. He was eventually found in the trunk of his own car by his wife. Shootings, bombings amongst other things happed after that. Massive war that between the two sides was called the A team vs the B team. This was a major war! His side lost btw. Those days are gone, but the mob still exists here. not like it was though. this happened nearly less then 30 years before my birth. My blood family never wanted any part of it, the mafia... a book was made of it though, The Hammer Conspiracies. just sharing. love the channel!

In high school I ran into a bit of trouble. My counselor was Vito Genovese Jr. I learned a lot from him and he helped me tremendously. He also told me some incredible stories about himself and his best friend growing up, Eddie Mahoney (the singer Eddie Money). His brutal honesty and his stories of recovery and choosing a different path changed my life.

Valachi was in prison with his boss Vito Genovese at the time, and Valachi believed his boss ordered a hit on him. So Valachi murdered the guy he thought was being sent to kill him. Believing a second attempt by Genovese to have him whacked while inside would be successful, he chose to cooperate. I don't think Valachi believed the government could keep him safe inside or outside, as witness protection wasn't really a thing yet, and with police corruption how it was, most attempts to keep them safe back then usually wasn't that successful. In Valachis mind, if Genovese and "this thing of ours" was going to take him out, He was taking Genovese and the 5 families down with him.

A big home in the best neighborhood on what was supposedly on a butchers salary. I know enough Italian that when guy's came to the house let's just say I put 2 & 2 together. I had to edit just to say I have never had better meals than when we ate at her parents home.

John Gotti took over the Gambino family after he devised and ordered the killing of the Made Man Paul Castellano murder on December 16, 1985. Pretty much Castellano and a friend were going to a high end steak house. As they were getting out of the car, some gunmen walked up and delivered six rounds to each of them. Gotti was in a car nearby and watched it. After the killing was over, he drive by looking at the scene to make sure that it was done before the cops arrived. He always bought the jury of a trial involving him, so that he wouldn't be convicted. Finally the FBI got him due to wire taps.

Eliot Ness really went downhill after he caught Al. Cleveland was having a real problem with a serial killer. Killing on The shipping lines, the train yard. So right after that he took a job as the head lawman in Cleveland arrogantly claimed that he would catch the butcher of Kingsbury run. The thing that man did to the poor and veterans who lived in homeless camps along the train yards is the most horrific thing you've ever heard of. 😳 He died a piece of garbage lonely broke and shamed. Because of the overwhelming consensus 👍

But there he went anyway. Sammy was well established as a mobster but he's also making thigns up to make himself look great. For example how he blames Gotti for turning on him and that's why he ratted on him. But he doesn't explain why he ratted on all the other mobsters and people who weren't Gotti.
