“The Lion King” remake brought the beloved 1994 animated classic into 2019 with a mix of CGI animation and live-action filming techniques. We talked to Elliot Newman of MPC Film about creating fur, building environments, and creating characters like Rafiki and Scar, as well as how cast members like Donald Glover, Billy Eichner, and Seth Rogen got to perform in an incredibly unique set-up.
Thank you to MPC Film. Check more of their work out here:

Unsalted Santa I don’t. It’s like why bother to make bland emotion less animals. Actual nature documentaries are powerful because they have emotion. And why oh why didn’t they just do what was done in chronicles of narnia and make the lion have emotion.

@@85stumpen A lot of people always have an extreme despise towards live-action Disney films because these films are cash-grabs that not only it can't surpassed the animated movies, but it can also tarnish the legacy of Walt Disney and his amazing works that changed animation forever and that's not what he wants, which I can do understand what others are saying. Disney, a wealthy company, might be hated for its greed, but at least in the behind the scenes, the people working on live-action remakes are trying their best to replicate the animated films into something fresh, but all the hard work cost them nothing. I do understand what the audience thought about the live-action remakes, but they can be snobbish sometimes when it comes to nostalgia. Bob Iger is, of course, a huge middle finger to Walt Disney's legacy as a CEO.

@@LightStreak567 i get that the movie's aim was to make the visual aspect realistic and you're statement is supportive of that. But what separates Lion King from lions we see on Discovery Channel is SPEECH.There's a disconnect between the "realistic features" and the animals talking very theatrically. It sucks the soul out of the characters.
@LightStreak567
@LightStreak567 4 жыл бұрын
@@WiseOnion The "disconnect" between the realistic features and the animals talking theatrically is an inevitable thing when you're making a live action remake of an animated movie. You can't deny that the "disconnect" exists in the original animated cartoon movie too, you and everyone else criticizing the "absence" of emotion in the characters use the "disconnect" to discredit the live action remake. However, the filmmakers of the original cartoon movie made sure that the animals were not too "humanized". Though they have facial expressions like us, they also conveyed their emotions through body language. For example, when Simba is sad, his ears are flat. That's an almost universal sign of sadness in animals.
@miamama9886

@@LightStreak567 LOL, But when Mufasa dies in the lion king 2019, Simba ears are not flat, it lacks emotions in everyway except voice performances - and that actually makes things worse, it creates a huge disconect between what we see and what we hear. You are defending this movie blindly.

@@Raemey as someone who was obsessed with lion king especially lion king 2. The live action version although impressive in my opinion wasn’t the greatest. Yes it was very similar but just the colors alone kinda made it meh. In the original they went crazy with colors in songs such as “I just can’t wait to be king” and I felt they could have carried that over. Almost like a Mary Poppins injection. But I think that would have been amazing to see a super hyper realistic scene. Not only that but in the original there was so many theatrical elements that brought interest and drama! Where was that in the new film? When Mufasa does simba’s expression was so blank they could have strayed away from being realistic in moment like these to bring emotion and emphasis, other than the music and voice actors doing it alone. I could go on and on. Yes it was impressive but there was a lot of things in my personal opinion they could have done differently

@@beamshark That's called opinion. Sure, you don't like the movie and it's fine. But trying to call someone out for liking something and making them feel like a bad person is not a healthy way to conversate. I don't like the movie because it has some problems, but it doesn't mean I attack someone for having an opinion. Better watch out with your words, buddy. I don't care what everyone, like you, said, but everyone has different views and paths, and they have the rights to have their own statements to choose whether they like it or not.

Don't you think that the quote you said should apply to any movie nowadays? I hate to go Kanye West ego levels here but I think you should be grateful they did a new one. since we can't just simply re-release the originals in theaters anymore since that's now outdated and sometimes even the classics have even a few holes and cracks that show it might start to age or feel dated over time. But then again, we just don't want the classics to be bashed because we just find it too precious, and think it'll never be broken. Just ask Confused Matthew. Plus I'm already getting tired of hearing the same damn thing over and over again. We get it, animation is great, and can do everything that real life can't. And I do like it too. But do you have to be so pushy about it to the point where you probably realize why animation isn't taken seriously in the general public? Because you have to sound like your lecturing us like we're stupid and clueless on something that people not involved in the film industry could give less of a damn about?

@@ankitwawage did you grow up with the old? because you would know... many epic scenes of the original are not there (the animals dancing, singing and celebrating) This new version has no imagination, fantasy or epicness. The whole Disney team just did a ctrl+c / ctrl+v, obliterating what was real and beautiful in the process. They remade the movie for the money and the technology, not the story - the adventure - the love. You can feel it in every frame: the selfish vacuity of beauty without depth, the image just for the sake of the image, without any meaning. A magnificent painting with no soul, no true intention, no purpose, no integrity. We don't make real movies anymore, because art is at the complete mercy of money, fame and imitation.
@ankitwawage
@ankitwawage 4 жыл бұрын
@@10HW Yeah I understand that but you can't have just what you desire. There's lot difference in fantasy and live action. If you start doing fantasy scenes like animated movies it won't work as it will make movie just for fun purposes like we used to watch cartoons in childhood. For live actions there should be some seriousness about movie story, which is not applicable for animations as they are mainly for fun and light while movies (live action) have slightly or highly serious tone. Yeah I agree there should have been some scenes from original but that was animation while this is live action and I'm pretty much happy with what they did and I accept the changes but yeah some scenes could have been added.
