I understand why (the bad blood between him and the moderators isn't going away any time soon even though both sides really want to just move on) but I also think if he took the time to learn some of the strats it could make manhunts a lot more interesting. He could really surprise the hunters with some of the new tactics.

The time counted as a time loss to pearl to the middle cannot be treated as room for improvement in terms of the time because there is a certain minimum amount of time the dragon takes to perch. The dragon perched ns so anyway no time was lost to not pearling to the middle.

I think the whole pausing situation is stupid. Brentilda wouldn't have gotten the time that he did, without pause abusing. In other words, pause abusing helped him. But now, pause abusing hurts you. Which means that no one is going to be able to pause abuse anymore (which I think is good) but it means that the wr is harder to break. I think you have to either allow pause abusing or you have to retime wr (which isn't fair.) It's just harder to get wr without pause abusing especially when wr has so much of it.

Speedrun moderators are not in a position to diagnose mental illness from a muted video of someone playing a video game. I feel like the only option is to not time those pauses, and I hope this leads to a clarification in timing rules. There's no fancy math he could be doing to gain an advantage (it's just 1000/10=100) so the only thing he's doing is calming down, which is very reasonable.

In any other game, speedrunners would laugh at you for suggesting that pausing to calm down is reasonable. There's a reason Super Mario 64, Celeste, Portal, etc. have their speedrunning rules set up the way they do, and the only reason this conversation is on the table in the first place is because pausing is allowed in order to deal with lag. Thus, it really should only be allowed to deal with lag. It's the same in other games, and the minecraft mods came to this conclusion because it makes sense.

i just want to say, according an analysis by thecamo6 (who is pretty prevalent in the community), piper isn't pausing to calm himself, but instead to tell everyone on javacord about how he get a sub 8 blind, and then how he hit the blind. pretty funny, but its a completely different situation when he pauses to calm himself than this.

Harsh as it seems, I believe no pausing should be allowed. There is simply no way to fairly regulate fair vs unfair pauses. And being able to push through panic is a vital part of what it means to be a good speedrunner (isn't this what is called "clutch"?). Allowing pausing in any way is open to abuse and/or the subjective decisions of judges, both of which will be bad for the quality of runs in general.

To me the pauses should count sure it's unfair because Brentilda was able to use it but it's an open door to people pausing whenever they feel like they need to calm down. Being able to handle the pressure is no easy task but it's a speedrunning skill at which you can get better. I feel like the problem is just the transition period between pause abuse and the modern era of pausing. Right now the wr is using pauses according to the rules at the time but when it gets beaten it will be the definitve end of the pause debate

From an outside perspective, the whole pause changes controversy has to be a yes or a no (minus chunk loading and dimension entries), otherwise its all up to discrepancy and leaves this entire speed running category in shambles with the current top with blatant abuse, and follow up runners not having the same leniency, there's is already a lot of luck going into rsg speedruns, you then don't need more luck of weather or not a moderator decides what pauses were and weren't allowed in runs, i have followed mc speed running for about 8 months now and this is a factor that really hurts it as a spectator and players, as the final moment of a speed run will be ruined as you have to wait for pause discrepancies to accounted for. Just an opinion so welcome to a discussion :)

they've made such a mess of the pause situation. it either has to be allowed, or banned, I honestly don't care which. but this crazy situation of allowing it for some subjectively judged reasons and not others is absurd. in this specific situation, dealing with the pressure and anxiety of high level competition has always been a part of said competition, the mental ability to stay focused and not be pressured into mistakes is just as important in top players of any game or sport as their actual skill and knowledge.

Time outs exist in sport for a reason. It's so you can take time to assess things and recenter your focus. In all forms of competition, there's always something to help you with mental pressure. The pausing should be treated like a time out. TTO(Technical Time Out) for things that are unavoidable(I.e interruptions and injury), and PTO(Personal Time Out) for things that are avoidable, or personal choice(I.e bathroom break, reassessment, or mental stress) - Y'know, the exact same way professional competitions and sports do it.

My opinion on pauses goes like this: You should be allowed any pause length upon every dimension switch without counting (pause needs to start within 3 seconds of entering for it not to count or something like that). Then, you should have like 3 minutes pause credit, where you can pause without counting - anything above counts. But, to stop pause abuse to look around you like Brentilda did for example, every pause shorter than 10 seconds counts with 10 seconds towards your pause credit. You will run out very quickly if you pause abuse, but you have a lot of time to calm down in a run when changing dimensions plus these 3 minutes of free pausing. For settings changing, a regular pause, you have your credit for that, you will never really change settings above the 3 minutes limit. Well reasoned pauses like leaving for 10 minutes because someone called you somewhere shouldn't be counted as well.

in the overworld there might have been some more timesave with killing the golem with the gold sword which would allow them to skip the wood pick. also there was some wood in a village chest, tho missing that is basically just luck on which houses you check. Overall I think the run was very well played, and congrats to piper!.

And then you get something like Sizzler's 11:07 that could have been mid-10s if not for the elder guardian, and his initial overworld and nether travel was relative miles.
