It's interesting that while covering that 2017 Season you didn't mention the Shazier injury. A big part of that 17' explosion after week 5 was the defense finally starting to come together behind Shazier's lights out play. At the time of his injury he was #3 in defensive player of the year projected rankings... They were finally starting to click & then BOOM... Spinal. Todd Haley, who was OC for the Steelers during this time, was interviewed on McAfee recently and he said “Pittsburgh’s fans are hard to please. You can have a record setting offense and they still won’t be happy.” To which I say, he had all that talent and never got them to the Super Bowl. It doesn’t matter what they do in the regular season unless they cap it off with a championship.
@mikepgh6529 Жыл бұрын
If your goal is to come to Pittsburgh and not win a championship. We don’t want you. Nobody is going to give you an atta boy for not winning a championship with more pro bowlers than all other teams. That means you got out coached when it mattered. You will hear it, because you failed.

@@WhiteG60 Ben won 2 super bowls. The first with Cowher against Seattle. The second with Tomlin against the cardinals. He played in a third with Tomlin, but lost to the Packers. The whole point of the game is to win the championship. If you aren’t holding your team to that standard, what’s the point in watching the game?
@mikepgh6529 Жыл бұрын
@@WhiteG60 You are correct. As I stated, pressure from a large fan base can have an impact on winning. There’s more money in Pittsburgh winning than Cleveland. If 10% of Pittsburgh fans stop buying tickets and merchandise, that’s a lot more to lose than 10% of Cleveland fans. The Pirates don’t have the national following that the Steelers do. Therefore, fan pressure doesn’t have as big an impact, because the Pirates winning doesn’t bring in as much money for the league as a bigger market. So, if ownership acts like they don’t want a championship, but the customers do, the customers will let them know. If coaches come here and don’t want a championship, the fans will let them know, “Don’t come here. We won’t welcome you.” If someone claims to be a football fan, and doesn’t know the number of Superbowls a player has won when trying to make a point. It’s not surprising if that person has no desire for their team to win a championship in the first place. This product is built to make money off of both of us. Enjoy watching your team lose.
@Crateron111 ай бұрын
Haley had a really bad relationship with Ben. This came up several times throughout Haley's time in Pittsburgh, so most, if not all, Steeler fans were aware of it, but almost no one talks about that, I imagine because the offense kept clicking. It is possible that Steeler fans put added pressure into Haley because of this, which is in line with the comment he made. It is also likely that this impacted the team's offensive performance, particularly in the playoffs. It is difficult to win a championship when the OC and the QB are in constant disagreement and don't get along. Add that to the defense being average at best throughout most of those years, and you have a recipe for a team good enough to make the playoffs, but not good enough to advance throughout the playoffs.

As a die hard Steelers fan, this was a great time to watch Steelers football, but a massive disappointment as well. There are many reasons why the Killer B’s trio never won anything. 1. Was the Patriots. Steelers could never beat the Patriots when it mattered, especially in the 2016 AFC Championship game when they lost to the Patriots 36-17. The Patriots definitely cost the Steelers some opportunities. 2. All three AB’s weren’t on the field as much as you think. AB almost never missed a game, Ben missed a decent number of games with injuries. And Le’veon was damn near always hurt or suspended. Missing crucial games including the 2014 wild card against the Ravens and most of the 2016 AFC championship against the patriots, leaving the 1st quarter due to injury. 3. The most important reason was the defense. With as good as the Steelers offenses were in the Killer B’s era, the defenses were not so good. They were putrid to mediocre most of the time, always relying on the offense to put up points and wins. The best chance the Steelers had to win was during the 2017 season when they had a top 5 offense and they actually had a top 10 defense throughout most of the season. Until Ryan Shaizer went down, they no longer had that super athletic middle linebacker to cover the middle of the field, and teams destroyed them over the middle with short to medium ranged passes from there on out, look at the 2017 divisional game against Jacksonville, they absolutely missed Shaizer’s presence in the middle. Plus Mike Tomlin having to deal with so many egos and big personalities on the team, those Steelers teams sure were talented, but they never were able to put it all together at the right time. And that era was full of missed opportunities and frustrating disappointments

Thing is, Antonio Brown apparently had reports of having bad character issues going back to his college days and stuff came out about him from around 2012 or 13 in practice and such. Le'veon Bell was a product of really good o-line (saw it with James Conner in his first couple of years), allowing him to use his patience and wait for holes to form and wanted way too much money. And you've gotta put blame on Mike Tomlin for not doing ANYTHING about those 3 throughout the years, as well as constantly underachieving/playing down to mid QB's/no Browns Head Coach in the playoffs

@shiorisaitou48463 ай бұрын
Shazier was a big loss at the time because his backups were awful. He was a good player, not as great one. He attacked the wrong hole and missed tackles on a regular basis. They invested too heavily in their offense and had a couple of high-risk players and didn't invest enough in their defense. The Steelers defense needed some help too. Maybe if they did that, they might have had another ring. I always looked at this Steeler team as very streaky. They kind of went by how the Killer B's played. Once their egos got the better of them, things were not good and they started getting frustrated and egos got in the way. Honestly, Mike Tomlin deserves some credit for dealing with Antonio Brown as long as he did, I would not have even touched him no matter how big a player he became. I just wish Bell would have stuck around; it was selfish for him to pull a holdout like he did.

Hot take as a Steelers fan… Bell was only the player he was cause of the Steelers style of play on offense. He would have been a nobody on any of the other 31 teams

Also the fact that the 14-17 Steelers offensive line was legit one of the best of the past decade. Two HOF caliber players in DeCastro and Pouncey along with pro bowler Big Al. That offensive line was INSANE.

2017-2020 Saints had one of the best trio. Drew, Michael and Alvin should have definitely gone to one Super Bowl and possibly another one during Alvin's rookie season if Marcus tackles Diggs

So sad there couldn't be ONE season where the Steelers didn't have some sort of debacle. 2013 - 0-4 start, defense is no longer elite 2014 - Defense sucked 2015 - Ben's injury, AB killed by Burfict, fumble in next playoff game 2016 - TB12 owns the Steelers' defense, Bryant's suspension, Heyward's injury 2017 - Shazier's injury, the Jesse James catch, and terrible defense in the playoff game vs JAC 2018 - Bell is out, drama, late-game choking 2019 - Ben is out 2020 - 12-0 fluke start, narrow wins against bad teams 2021 - Team somehow wins 9 games despite sucking overall 2022 - Ben's retired So sad the Steelers didn't get a single super bowl out of this, and their defense was actually really solid from 2015 - 2020.

As much drama as there was, if the steelers had even a slightly below average defense, I think they could have won it all. Their offense was on another level. The defenses of the killer bees era (especially the secondary) were downright horrendous.

Idk. A couple of years ago I said he would probably still get in despite his behavior, but now? He’s done nothing but build a case against himself getting in. Remember, TO and Moss couldn’t even get in on their first ballot because of their “issues” and they’re “issues” were nothing compared to Brown’s. Heck, Hines Ward isn’t even in the hall yet.
