There’s a parallel Internet you may not have run across yet - accessed by a special browser and home to a freewheeling collection of sites for everything from anonymous activism to illicit activities. Jamie Bartlett reports from the dark net.
TEDTalks is a daily video podcast of the best talks and performances from the TED Conference, where the world's leading thinkers and doers give the talk of their lives in 18 minutes (or less). Look for talks on Technology, Entertainment and Design -- plus science, business, global issues, the arts and much more.

+aDotFromTheFuture TED is diverse that is why I even watch it. Why not just filter your taste, like when you see something you don't like, just move on. Don't make a big deal out of it by starting to insult different point of views, you like PC games and cars, I don't, but I still give it a chance because there might be something I'll like or at least I'll learn enough about it so when someone starts a conversation about those subjects I can giva an opinion on it.
@aDotFromTheFuture
@aDotFromTheFuture 8 жыл бұрын
Arianit Haxha TED: T = technology, E = entertainment, D = design. Now tell me, to which of those categories does feminism fall to? You're right, it doesn't fall to any of those, meaning that those kinds of talks don't belong here, which is why people get so frustrated with them (and also because they border around feminazism rather than feminism).
@arianithaxha5247
@arianithaxha5247 8 жыл бұрын
Exactly, E-ducation. Now lets see what education actually means. Education is the process of facilitating learning. Knowledge, skills, values, beliefs, and habits of a group of people are transferred to other people, through storytelling, discussion, teaching, training, or research. Soo, those kind of talks you refer as feminazism,which I don't agree with because most of them aren't, do belong here.
@aDotFromTheFuture
@aDotFromTheFuture 8 жыл бұрын
Arianit Haxha Except that the E doesn't stand for education, it's entertainment like I said in my previous comment. Even their slogan is "Ideas worth spreading", which is a category feminism doesn't fall into. However, there is a channel called TED-ed, which is for educational videos and their slogan is "Lessons worth sharing", now that's a place I don't mind if they put their feminism talks into (although those videos are completely useless, and like I said, border on the lines of feminazism).

This is the first time I have heard reference to the years 2000 through 2009 and the "noughties" from the British word "nought" for zero. The reference is just after references to the 70s, 80s, 90s, and noughties (00s). I think the only alternative to noughties is the 2000s. Very interesting talk about innovation on the Internet.

Don't worry about such things as proxy, VPN, vps, tor browser, spoofing MAC address, etc. The general mainstream ignorant rats don't need it, and probably won't ever bother. Like you said, it's not needed for such things as KZbin or Facebook, which is what teeny boppers use. And as ignorant as they are, they don't realize how easy it is to lose their control of their privacy. One click is all it takes to install a rat/Trojan, and from their anyone can watch your webcam live, record keystrokes, Etc.

The "dark net" is the Internet. What you are on now is the TINTERNET.. it is a manufactured platform that cannot survive without the Internet. The Tinterent is a fabrication of normalcy, controlled by cookies, walled gardens and passwords. Once you enter you are tethered to it by T&Cs. The Internet was given the moniker DARK NET, by the ABC Social platforms to deter users visiting it. Recap. WWW was invented by Tim Berners-lee. He gave it free to the world. There are other identifiers that can be collected though, by which most of the time you can be uniquely identified. Sadly using the modern web without javascript isn't really feasible today.

Earlier this year, my parents went to a bed store and later that day, saw banner adverts for beds. The information collection done by huge corporations is nothing short of terrifying, and now a marketplace run by the people, for the people, with admittedly bad intentions, seems better than its legal alternatives which foresake your privacy.

The same phenomenon has been observed by people pirating s/w and finding the cracked copy is superior to the "always on/DRM-crippled" corp version. I find the history of the Internet to be fascinating, having got on in '91and worked for computer manufacturers, ISPs, e-Commerce sites, etc. It's been pretty up and down and the recent turn to corporatization has been sad, so this gives me hope.

Contrary to what most people believe, the availability of drugs does not increase or decrease consumption in any major degree. The demand for drugs is quite fixed and the demand is big enough to almost always be filled. Having dark sites like these will not increase drug consumption, but decrease street trade which is better in several ways (as mentioned in the video).
@andremaines
@andremaines 5 жыл бұрын
That’s not true. There are tons of people that want to do drugs but don’t want to break the law. Particularly the older to middle age crowd. Marijuana has become a lot more popular with them in legalized states because of the ease of access and not needing to know a drug dealer. Think of it in terms of video games. There are tons of hardcore gamers out there for sure. But there are also casual gamers who wouldn’t be gaming if the wii didn’t come out and make it easy for them. Legalized drugs attract the wii players of the drug world. It lowers the barrier to entry enough for them to try it when they wouldn’t if they had to go through a shady drug dealer or break the law to obtain it.

@@andremaines It hasn't been legal long enough in the US states to use them as a meaningful example. If you want a real example, use the Netherlands. Weed has been legal (technically "gedoogd", meaning you won't be punished) there for decades. The big surprise is that a smaller percentage of the Dutch population smokes weed than of the US one. Only 8 percent of the Dutch population smokes weed annually, compared to 16.2% of the US population. (Source: www.unodc.org/wdr2016/en/maps-and-graphs.html) Personally, I think that making weed illegal makes it "cool" to smoke it. Of course, other factors could be easier access to alcohol (age 18 to buy instead of 21) etc, but the comparison still stands.

I wonder if once TOR becomes mainstream, someone will think of a method to track people down and do exactly the same things on TOR, as they did here. I don't know exactly how it works, but I have a feeling that if it becomes mainstream there'll also be less privacy.
@Soletestament

+Zuzanna Kosmala Tor isn't entirely secure. It has two major flaws. The first being a middle man attack. meaning any body running a node can be using a packet sniffer to capture the information passing through their node. Meaning you really shouldn't be using login credentials over tor unless absolutely necessary. Second governments/hackers can discover who you are via point to point monitoring. Meaning if you're suspected of something illegal they can find out where you're going by watching activity leaving your actual IP and correlating it with exiting traffic. Exactly how either of those methods work idk. But they're known flaws, meaning nobody with half a mind using tor is going to be using it to log into facebook. It's just a dumb idea.
@4EverDubin
@4EverDubin 8 жыл бұрын
+Soletestament Actaully it's methods will be far more difficult in the dark net than main web. Most of the hacks in Facebook is more social engineering than anything technical really. At least to gain information on the dark net you at least need some computer programming background.

+Soletestament Isn't a man-in-the-middle-attack a Problem for any Browser out there? Is f.e. Chrome fundamentally more secure in any way? Honest question.
@Soletestament
@Soletestament 8 жыл бұрын
+~ShiftR0ck~ : Yea that's true. It wasn't my intention to suggest using Tor was worse than using a normal browser. Simply warning of it's limitations. Many people like to think Tor is compromised when in reality it isn't. Although you're far more likely to run afoul of a hacker while randomly surfing the darknet than you are the clear net.
@Soletestament
@Soletestament 8 жыл бұрын
+busTedOaS : Yea it is a problem for all browsers. Sorry, I should clarify some. Tor is all about anonymity, meaning anything that can compromise that is a flaw. If you're not looking to remain anonymous you could download all the same plugins it uses for chrome and have all the same security benefits without the anonymity. The problem I'm mentioning is really one of probability. The deepweb and the darkweb are where a lot of bad actors frequent. It's like hiding in the crowd at a sleazy bar. Most probably are just there to mind their own business. But you're far MORE likely to run into someone who's trouble and wants to pick a fight then you would be if you were on the street. Anyone can set up a node and so it's important to be conscious of what you're doing and not go places that could give away your identity. I hope that clarifies things a little.

The progression from the time of this talk to the day I'm watching in May 2019 shows the speakers predictions have definitely progressed towards exactly what he forethought. Just think, if anyone was to have been intrigued enough by the presentation and perhaps was to purchase Bitcoin or Ethereum at the time back in 2015, they'd be sitting pretty nice right about now into the next 5-10 years to come... (May 2015 - BTC = $243 : May 2019 - BTC = $7900) (Aug 2015 - ETH = $1.25 : May 2019 = ETH = $255)
