How the pros speed up their SETS

The proper sequence in the wrists and hands needs to happen, but the faster you can perform that sequence the better you are going to be. Younger players are slower in their wrist action simply because they need to find that feeling where the ball is coming in and out. The best setters in the world can do this quicker without sacrificing location.

I'm not a setter but I play in an indoor coed league and on girl's night I set for the girls when I'm front row so this helps a lot.

High crisp hand sets are so refreshing to see. The league I play in has too many people setting from their chins with a long slow release like they are playing on the beach. This makes the game feel slow and hurts the connectivity with the hitter as tempo sets are not really possible. I was a setter while in University and playing beach made my setting worse, hard to transition back to hardcourt setting form after a beach season, I find. Keep posting short to point instruction, we can all learn and improve!

The release is huge for us as hitters. Not having a release that's consistent or having one that is jumpy or slow can also mess with a hitters tempo. We'll keep working on it!

Setters at the Pro level do EVERYTHING with their wrists, fingers, elbows, body. Just like a basketball shooter would be good at layups, free throws, three pointers, mid range shots.. A setter will use a variation of all techniques to solve the problem (the pass and set). Different mechanics for the basic sets and for the most difficult ones.
