Great well researched and informative video. I feel like when the Raiders left Oakland for Las Vegas, they lost their identity. The current day Raiders don't feel like the Raiders of old. The outcast scrappy win by any means Raiders feel like a thing of the past.
@sideline.archive15 күн бұрын
I was thinking this. With their constant moving they have eroded any sense of place with the franchise. They don’t belong to LA or Oakland anymore - it feels like a completely new thing in vegas. Forced and commercial. Not like the Raiders I talk about in this video - or the John Madden raiders we all remember.
@JamesMetsFan115 күн бұрын
@sideline.archive It was forced. By the NFL itself and Raiders owner Mark Davis and with help from Cowboys owner Jerry Jones. The Raiders are now too commercial for their own good. You hit 🎯 the nail on the head. The move to Vegas was motivated by money.
@JamesMetsFan115 күн бұрын
@@sideline.archive Mark Davis tried for years to get funding for a new stadium in Oakland. The city of Oakland refused to use public funds to fund the new stadium. Oakland is a low income area with lots of crime drugs and gangs. The NFL wanted more revenue than what the Raiders were making in Oakland. So they forced the move to Vegas. Keep up the good work 👍

@sideline.archive7 күн бұрын
Do you know why he changed it to silver and black? A decision that would change the course of uniform design forever!
@3243_7 күн бұрын
@sideline.archive From what I understand, he admired the Army football team, who had similar colors (with the exception of metallic gold, which the Army team also wore) and patterned the Raiders' uniforms after them while adding the shield to their original logo, a football helmet-wearing pirate with two crossed swords. The shield was influenced by the logo of the team Davis had come from, the then-San Diego Chargers (who themselves had started in Los Angeles and returned there a few years ago).
@sideline.archive7 күн бұрын
@ Chargers were also the first team to wear coloured face masks! Awesome info - thanks for this. If you enjoy uniforms and design as much as I do hit sub and join me for the next video. Appreciate you!

@sideline.archive Yep, gold facemasks in 1974, along with the Chiefs and Broncos, both sporting white facemasks. Although some Chicago Bears during the '60s and early '70s sported white or navy blue facemasks, most of their players wore conventional unpainted gray facemasks. But yeah, the Chargers, Chiefs, and Broncos were the first teams to officially wear colored masks.

Too bad the NFL is so soft now it’s more about entertainment and gambling than an actual sport. The Super Bowl is not a football game but an entertainment circus. The winner has already been decided before hand just like NBA. Business first, entertainment second, and, competition third. The Raiders are no where near a brand anymore. Mark Davis has followed suit and done everything that the commissioner asked of him. Davis traded Love for Money. Now the Raiders are rarely televised in California. Their fan base dwindles away year-by-year. They have only 2 playoff/winning-seasons since losing the Super Bowl on Jan 26, 2003, all losses. A Super Bowl in which Jon Gruden (former Coach knew every play) Bill Callahan did not change 1 play from old playbook. I will be glad when the Raiders season is over then I won’t have to watch NFL.

Not only that but there's only one team that represents the antithesis of what the NFL wants to convey of its teams and it's the Raiders. I stopped watching most of their games about 6 years ago.

@@ivannevarez8478 I think this is really interesting and wanted to factor in how the Raiders constant moving has eroded any loyalty or culture to any city. I think you’re right - the Las Vegas raiders seem transient and I doubt they will settle there long enough to reclaim any kind of identity.

Perhaps not cool or hard by todays standards - but culturally significant in a way that today's "gangsters" could never be - thanks to the dilution of media and culture. Whether they were cool or hard is subjective - but what's not, is that N.W.A. changed EVERYTHING!

Yea but I think it’s clear now like never before that NWA had a horrible influence overall and were a marketed act created by executives. Rap went from an urban art form to gang related art form co opted by the power structure. NWA was not what you think

Too bad mark sold the history of the raiders to hookers, casinos and buffets! Everything changed when the raiders left to vegas, theres no pirates in the desert, and for all you OAKLAND HATERS if it wasn't for OAKLAND the raiders wouldn't exist so respect the real birthplace of the raiders which is OAKLAND!!
