Realistically the Republic didn’t really need a large army or navy, but it did need a much more robust and effective one if it need to keep the peace, which it didn’t considering how corrupt the Senate has become alongside the rising tensions between the Core and the Rim.

Agreed. They needed a powerful well trained and equipped central core for security forces to rally around and provide the necessary structure for cross sector groups to work with. It also needed to be clearly called a military to prevent the illusion they were simply police and that the central government was toothless. The judicial forces seemed to work starting out but the idea they were not a military seems to have weakened them over time.

The Judicial Forces and local PDFs were pretty interesting parts of the lore. I would have loved more stories with minor small conflicts like the Stark Hyperspace War featuring these limited forces.
@JediSentinal4 ай бұрын
Personally, the stark hyperspace war pushes the definition of 'small' but I agree, I would love to see more planetary sized threats instead of Galaxy ending stuff. We've had so many death star variants, sun crusher, dark reaper, Galaxy gun, world devastators, etc. but where are the warlords who take over a single planet and that's it? They do exist and the stories surrounding them are usually interesting, wish we had more of that in non comic/book form.
@TY-km8hjАй бұрын
@JediSentinal me too. I personally think star wars has taken a sawn iff shotgun to its feet by having the enpire essentially smashed to pieces a yr after endor. Its basically a yr of fighting, then jakku, then nothing till thrawn comes back to the galaxy and them 40 yrs of nothing. What a waste. Compare that to the countless warlords the EU had. Really wish someone would start telling warlord stories and occeride that alrt of canon

This is one of the most interesting and underdeveloped and discussed areas in Star Wars lore imo. I’m intensely curious as to how all these different planetary commands and armies were essentially able to integrate themselves more or less seamlessly into the GAR and alongside the clones with the outbreak of the war. It was mentioned in the video that some of that work was done prior to its outbreak but it’s still an incredibly interesting subject that I unfortunately doubt will ever get much more depth.

I've always liked the aesthetics of the Judicial Forces, from their snappy blue uniforms to their "lean and mean" fleet of refitted corvettes and transports decked out in red livery (because as we all know from another space fantasy setting, "DA RED ONEZ GO FASTA!"). The whole thousand year "Golden Age" between the New Sith Wars and the prequels in Legends is an intriguing one that sadly wasn't explored all that often.

@davidmusgrave81404 ай бұрын
I think an interesting video would be an analysis of how big these PDFs would probably be. I would imagine the lore on it is probably pretty limited but I think there are two methods to make an educated guess. You could look at the financial side of things using current Earth countries as a good analogy using something like a percentage of GDP or population. Another way to look at it would be maybe tonnage of vessels. So for example based on Wikipedia the British Royal Navy has a rough blue water tonnage of 285,354 tonnes. And maybe you can compare that to the mass of known Star Wars ships.
@Kevc004 ай бұрын
This really can't be done because numbers and armies really don't work in star wars. For instance there are currently about 75.5 million soldiers, sailors, airmen, and marines on Earth out of a population of just under 8 billion. There are hundreds of quadrillions of people in the republic yet the clone army was smaller than the Chinese army today. Numbers in star wars militaries do not make sense. Even if Coruscant had the official population of 3 trillion, which it almost definitely had at least a thousand times that, that is still nearly 500 times the population of Earth. So if there is an approximately equal rate of military enlistment, not even including the fact that this number is way too low for Coruscant, that is still over 37 billion soldiers. The military of Coruscant alone would outnumber the entire droid army.
@davidmusgrave81404 ай бұрын
@@Kevc00 You bring up a lot of good points where specific numbers are given in the official lore. That's where I think it would be interesting to contrast that with a few points of hour history to see a bit more realism. For example you could take militarization levels of the modern day, the modern peak (probably middle to end of WW2), and then a peak time in Star Wars such as the Clone Wars or Vong invasion. I think we're going to see that it's very very low as you have raised above. Realistically you have to sort of pretend at some point that Star Wars could be realistic. "Ok if we ignore the stated lore for the size of this army or that fleet, here's what we think it might be."
@michaelandreipalon3594 ай бұрын
Star Wars sorely needs their own Chaos Insurgency, Third Echelon, and Razgriz Squadron. Maybe even a sort of "Justice League Galactic", having groups of young Padawans be Ojamajo-esques or something, and an XCOM expy used in response to wayward races (hint, Neimoidians and Hutts) and extragalactics (hint hint, Yuuzhan Vong and the Nagai plus Tof). Addendum: Thought the comments about the PDFs were about the West End Games sourcebook pdfs.

Very nice! I always liked the lore about the Judicials and PDFs. I really love the Dreadnaughts of Rendili arc from the Clone Wars comic because we see the conflict between the local forces who are more sympathetic to the CIS going against the Republic loyalist members and seeing them fight over the fleet to see which side it would go towards. Would have been cool to see a pre-clone wars story about the Jedi working with the PDFs to really show off the Dreadnaughts, armed variants of the Consular cruisers, or some other ships.
@GAJake4 ай бұрын
The republic honestly didn't need dreadnaughts, just advanced starfighters remote controlled swarm fighters and well armed and shielded piloted starfighters. At the time there's nothing a few torpedoes couldn't do. An example fleet from ships at the time would be 2 captor-class carriers (ship at 1:35)- 1 with remote controlled stations for vulture droids, and 1 full of z95 headhunters. 1 dreadnaught heavy cruiser, 2 munificent escort frigates, multiple 2P20 frigates & CR70 corvettes, and hammerhead corvettes and gozanti cruisers for resupplying.

I never liked the idea of ancient hammerheads and aurek fighters still being in service at the end of the New Sith Wars. My personal headcanon is that they had new designs that were inspired by those old ships and looked somewhat similar, but weren't the exact same ships that had been used almost 3000 years ago.

I'd love a video like this about the galactic economy and currencies - if there's enough lore to talk about. It's mostly my head canon, but I always imagined that by the end of the Vong War, the whole damn galaxy had been utterly thrashed within the previous 50 years. While that could have led to mass rebuilding - and that was hinted at in the Dark Nest books a little - I also imagine that basically all the old traditional economic structures would have been smashed to bits repeatedly by that point. One of my favorite moments in the NJO is a really small moment with Danni Quee where she makes a mostly off hand remark about whichever local Imperial warlord claimed her homeworld on a given week. With regimes changing and so much war, it would have to have been utter chaos!
