@brianbair97025 жыл бұрын
No, it made sense to expand to 32 teams since the last time the NHL expanded was in 2000. Since then the population of US/Canada has gotten bigger, which means more potential hockey fans, which also means more interest in playing hockey which increases the NHL talent pool. But expanding any farther now will drain the talent pool and probably cause other issues, I don't think the league will expand past 32 for another 15 years.

To all of those who pine for the Yotes to move to Quebec City, I'll put a dagger in this. If the NHL ever moves the Coyotes out of Arizona it will be a market that geographically located within the Central Division. Houston, being the largest market without an NHL team, will be the prime option as the league would like to create a geographical rivalry with the Dallas Stars. There's no way the NHL will realign the divisions, let alone the conferences (if the Coyotes move to the Eastern Conference, the Red Wings will have to be moved back to the Western Conference). If the NHL ever decides to pull the trigger on Quebec City team (the chances are slim to none) it be via relocation of either the Hurricanes or Panthers.
@davidrivera97433 жыл бұрын
I think they will but it will be the east getting the realignment. Fla, Tb, Car , Wash, pitt, columbus, detroit, philadelphia the "atlantic" division and Mon, Tor, Ott, Buffalo, Bos, islanders, rangers, devils in the "Metropolitan" division. Relocation will be a factor and would love an eighth team in Canada if for some reason the border remains closed past the start of the 2021 season. Atlanta is a logical choice for hockey. It is a huge metro. It has a lot of Flames and Thrashers fans. It had a lot of transplants from hockey hotbeds. Atlanta was dealt a bad situation because of their owners. The Flames left in 1980 because owner Tom Cousins, who was a real estate developer, was losing money in his business because of the late 70s recession. In order to save his business, he had to sell the team. Unfortunately, he didn't seem to want give it time to find a local buyer. He may not have had much time. The Thrashers left in 2011 because of their ownership, Atlanta Spirit LLC. Atlanta Spirit acquired the team as part of a package deal with the arena rights to Philips Arena, as well as the sale of the Hawks. From the get go, the ownwership, all But one of the owners did not want the Thrashers. They wanted the Hawks because they only wanted to own a basketball team. There was only one owner who wanted to keep the Thrashers. The other owners wanted to sell the Thrashers. But the line individual wanted to keep them. This resulted in a lawsuit between owners which was dragged through the court's for years. The legal issues cost the owners a lot of money,contributing to them being financially unstable. They also over invested in contracts for players on the Hawks, one in particular a ridiculous contract for Joe Johnson, leaving much less for the Thrashers. Due to these financial decisions and the lawsuits draining them of cash, they decided to sell off most of the highest paid players on the Thrashers which took a potential contender in 2007 to a dire place just a couple years later. Once the lawsuits were settled by the court's in 2011, the owners who wanted to sell the Thrashers were allowed to. Even though the NIL said they didn't want relocation and for local buyers to be found, Bettman approved the sale to a Winipeg group who had only recently been denied the Coyotes in Arizona when the City came up with the funds to keep the team there. With no other team up for sale than the Thrashers, and the league wanting the incompetent ownersjlhip ordeal over, they hastily approved the relocation. Even though Atlanta only had a few months to find local buyers.

How do YOU know that? The Coyotes have not made one red cent during more than twenty years in Arizona. The team has already been scheduled to move into the Central division and, with Houston being a much larger market, the team will be moving into the Central Time Zone as well. Check the Forbes website on NHL franchise values and see what it says about the Coyotes......and start facing reality.

NHL will not move the Coyotes because of Auston Mathews's connection to Arizona and without the Coyotes auston Mathews won't be playing in the nhl also the nhl is about money and how much it can make an expansion team to Houston is a better option for the league meaning a ownership group would have to pay more than Vegas and Seattle. Arizona coyotes would fail if they relocate to Houston it's not as simple as moving the an organization to Houston since the team was in Winnipeg they had problems with money and getting lots of it too and they got moved to Arizona and same thing happen here the issue is they failed to replace key peices in Kieth Tkachuk and Jeremy Roenick when they had to trade them and the worst thing they did was trading away temmu selanne which they couldn't recover from until only now. Houston is not gonna make a change for this franchise an expansion is better for the city which would ultimately give them better player than what the Coyotes have. Houston is not a good relocation city one it's not a hockey town at the moment if they are then it's the Dallas stars which is so dominant. But the Coyotes won't do any better there they need to stay here in Arizona and Houston had to wait for the next expansion.
@FischerFan5 жыл бұрын
Oh please! If you think the NHL will not relocate its biggest headache for the past decade because one hockey player came from there; you're giving yourself a false sense of security. The owners are not going to keep footing the bill for a team that has done nothing but lose millions for over two decades.

John Woodgate Just curious, did you happen to watch hockey in Carolina prior to 2014?
@justinhollingsworth82125 жыл бұрын
John Woodgate I’m going to assume you didn’t since you say they have an inconsistent fanbase. They supported terrible hockey for 6 years with a solid following. It was only in 2014 where they saw attendance drop because of terrible ownership, bad management and abysmal products on the ice. I’m also curious, what do you expect attendance to be in a non-traditional market that held the longest playoff drought prior to this season?
@justinhollingsworth82125 жыл бұрын
John Woodgate Then once you answer those questions, considering the following: 1. Even if Dundon wanted to move the team he can’t for 7 years as stated in his contract with the NHL 2. I don’t know if you payed attention to the playoffs at all, but the fanbase erupted there in Carolina, drawing the highest attendance totals the arena has ever seen (when you factor in standing room tickets) 3. An owner who’s looking to move a team is not proposing Arena upgrades for a stadium he’s ultimate leaving 4. An owner wouldn’t be talking lease extensions with PNC Arena if he’s leaving the venue 5. An owner wouldn’t terminate his contract with his ECHL team in Florida to get one closer to NC to further expose hockey to those in NC/SC if he was going to move. 6. He certainly wouldn’t spend his money building practice facilities in the surrounding areas that will be used by the Canes and for youth hockey in the area if he was going to move. 7. If you actually knew about the subject, you’d know that the Canes have already made over $5 million dollars in new season ticket sales with a 91% renewal rating for existing STM’s, that doesn’t sound like something you move away from. I could go on and on, my only suggestion for you is before calling for the relocation of a team that has had attendance issues (because if that was the only determination, then many teams that we see with fantastic attendance would have moved years ago) at least have some evidence to suggest they’re moving. There’s nothing worse than a misinformed response like that.

@brianbair97025 жыл бұрын
It is hard for me not to see the Coyotes moving. The attendance has been bad, they are the least valuable team in the league, and are losing money. Houston is the 5th largest metro population in the US, have an NHL ready arena, lots of new NHL fans which will expand the leagues revenue, the owner of the NBA's rockets want an NHL team, and they wouldn't need to realign the divisions.
@yfnyotesfan4145 жыл бұрын
League sources say that Houston has zero interest in acquiring an nhl franchise. Besides the way the coyotes are going on the ice they’ll be a playoff team next season. Signing their stars long term could only happen because it’s near guarantee that they’re not moving out of the state of Arizona. The ownership group is still working diligently to find a new home in the state of Arizona. The owners have zero interest in moving away from AZ. But I wouldn’t expect you or anyone else outside the state of Arizona to know that. Not to mention that Bettman is one of the reasons we are in AZ and he supports us and believes in us.
@brianbair97025 жыл бұрын
@@yfnyotesfan414 what? The head of the NHL board of govenors said the NHL was missing in Houston. Dallas stars ceo says that would love to see an NHL team in Houston, likely because a Dallas-Houston rivalry would benfit the Stars. The new rockets owner wants a team in Houston and is generating local interest in the sport, he has also talked to Bettman The reasons Arizona didn't relocate was because they preferred trying to keep the Arizona market over the Georgia one and the Thrashers moving to Winnipeg added another team to the west.
@yfnyotesfan4145 жыл бұрын
Houston all of a sudden wanting a team now is news to me. When they announced Seattle franchise my knowledge was when everyone started rumors about Houston getting a team was that they didn’t want one, nor were they interested. Arizona being moved to the central is going to help with keeping a boosted attendance because we sell more tickets when the Chicago’s, the Winnipeg’s, the Minnesota’s are in town. Bettman said it here himself when we retired Doans number that this team is here to stay. This team isn’t moving, nothing you or anyone else thinks about the situation will change that fact. The teams on ice production is going up, the attendance was high the last several weeks of this season as they made a push for the playoffs. And when they move to the east valley the attendance will be great every game. They have stability that wasn’t there in years past. The league still believes in the market and the growth of the sport since the ownership of Barroway came in has skyrocketed.
