I am also one of the Mongols who recently converted to Islam (this year in fact). But there are some corrections I will make about our history: Firstly: It is Chinghis Khaan, not Genghis Khan, we do not pronounce the K in the word Khaan. Second: After unifying the Mongol nations, various Turkic nations were collected as well, as well as Khitans in China (Mongolic people who became more Chinese after a while). Thirdly: It was not out of hostility toward the Muslims or Islam. Mongkh Tengger (Eternal Heaven) Is One God and this was the belief of Mongols for Thousands of Years, before Christianity, Judaism or Islam was even named. In the Yassa (Code of Laws orally spoke by Chinghis and then Preserved by script by Kublai Khaan. The first and Most important law: 1. It is ordered to believe that there is only one God, creator of heaven and earth, who alone gives life and death, riches and poverty as pleases Him - and who has over everything an absolute power. The Khwarazeim and Abbassids were not conquered for being Muslim, but were conquered for their incredible arrogance and greed. Don't think they were just and honourable, because they called themselves Muslims. Remember the story of Hulaqu Khaan, who fed a plate of gold to the Caliph of Baghdad and when the Caliph refused, Hulaqu told him "Why didn't you use this gold for your people and your soldiers?" implying that he kept all the gold, like a dragon in a cave and didn't use it for any good.

I agree, a lot of people tend to forget what many of the muslim rulers did at that time. This still does not exclude the fact when the mongols converted to islam there were was much propaganda relating to thier original religion in order to make them seem more favorible to thier subjects. much of what we know of Yassa comes from later accounts, and there are no surviving direct transcriptions of the Yassa from the time of Chinggis Khaan.

Allah does not need Muslims, but we need Islam. Allah raised Islam using the Arab Rashidun, Umayyad, and then Abbasid Caliphates. Later, when many of them deviated, he raised Islam by the central Asians the Mongolians and the Turks. After their own decline, we all became in a bad situation, the current situation. But it feels like the Arabs are being used by Allah again to raise this Ummah and we pray that it is true, and that the Muslims are back to the forefront soon.

The Barlas were originally a Mongol army who settled in Transoxiana to keep the local non Mongols from rebelling. Once they settled they mixed the local Turks and Persian speaking peoples. They became personalised and Turkified. That’s how they became Muslims. Emir Timur himself was trying to create a Muslim version of the Mongol Empire. His biggest enemies were Mongols and the Ming Empire (most powerful empire at the time).

Only a part of Oghuz Turks (modern Turkmens or Turcomans) migrated /were still migrating to Anatolia then. Turks in Anatolia are Turkmens according to their tribal descent. Turk is a cover name for different tribal confederations such as Oghuzes (Turkmens) Karluks, Kypchaks and many more of Turks. All of Central Asia was (and is still) Turkish. Also, Babur, one of his descendents, who ruled India also self-identified as a Turk, spoke Karluk Turkish, wrote in Turkish and Persian, his empire was called Mughal (Mongolian) Empire though.

And he knew that ancestor of mongols Borte Chino was born in the Turk Khaganate (which makes him Turk basically). That is why mongol rulers said, we mongol tribe is one among many Turk tribes. We mongols are descendants of the great Turk. For example I am from Arghun clan, my nation is Kazakh but I am still Turk. So Timur could think like this, I am of Barlas clan, my tribal confederation is Mongol, but I am still a Turk. Mongol and Kazakh were basically a tribal confederations which today became Nationalities. Turk in my opinion is the common name for people of different, races, languages, cultures. Who have common spiritual and historical identity. Those tribes who were united under the banner of Bumyn Khagan called themselves celestial Turks and never forgot about that even after they were united again by Genghis Khagan.
