Hah, I remember getting the first a7s. Out on events, photographers and videographers would ask me about it cause Sony was so new to the game back then. Everyone was shooting Canon, there were some Nikons here and there, but that was it. And then I'd show off the crazy ISO values and show them how you could close down to f7.1 or whatever, and still overexpose...at night! Professionals with years and years of experience were like "holy shit, wtf is this wizardry!" Of course nowadays, every camera has really good low-light capabilities, but back then it was unheard of.

Great video. I think any Sony mirrorless needs a lot of care in terms of how we light our scene and what is the quality of that light source. They also require accurate white balance settings before hitting the record button. It took me ages to get good colours out of my A7s. It did make me better at using light in a proper way.

The a7s series and the gh4/5 were literal game changers and made Sony/Panasonic the new big two instead of Canon and Nikon (although canikon are catching up) While Sony definitely led the full frame mirrorless market, we can't forget how panasonic pioneered internal 4k and 10 bit 422 on those tiny cameras. It's crazy to think that until the a7s 3, no hybrid camera had a codec as robust as the GH5, years after its release! Now Panasonic just needs to get their autofocus together so they don't get left behind like canikon did in the past haha

I still think it is amazing that an entire feature film was shot a7sii's. But now with internal 4:2:2 10 bit 4K on the a7siii there is no telling what will happen next. I got my own a7siii at the beginning of the month and I love this camera. While I may not be able to use all the features do to my computer's limited tech, this is still a great camera for any filmmakers who want to recreate the feel of a full production without spending around $50,000 then this camera is for you.

Honestly can’t go wrong with many options out there including the iPhone 12 Pro Max! Depends on what all you wanna shoot and how high end you wanna go. As far as Sony cameras the new a7siii is gonna be the best but also the most expensive. You can easily get what you want with the A7Sii but there’s plenty of other options. Do some research and figure out your budget and you can’t go wrong with what’s on the market.

Yes a great series of cameras and used by many for video but few for stills!!!! I started with the A7S in 2014 for the Bracketing of 5 @ +/- 3EV BUT know one had a book on any through the years until the A7Siii. Yes Video is great but still how did a camera with Video AND Stills go so long 6+ years with no book to learn about video or stills camera settings. Was it because of the 12MP's. As a stills camera it is like night vision. Exp: I would take the A7s hunting and when in a deer stand or sitting on a stump in total darkness in thick woods if I heard something I could watch deer passing by or keep an eye on one laying around till the 30 minutes before sunrise rule came. Or finding the spot that I had scouted to do a still of the MW. But still I had to play with settings to get what I needed. Currently I also have all three but for stills not video. What I can not believe is not one book about the A7s or the 5+ years of the A7Sii no book just KZbin videos about video. Of the millions of users no book about Slog or even best post processing programs. I even captured the the 10-08-2014 Lunar Eclipse after finding out about and using my old Canon Film Lens telephoto 100-400mm that happened just hours before sunrise but still no book to get info from a book and no KZbin to find info on how to do just night playtime!!

I think the title is misleading as Sony never changed the Film Industry forever, they "only" made a lot of things right over the years. No one really cares about ISO after all but image quality and it took some time for Sony to adapt to that. But, you gotta start somewhere to gain attraction and with 100k ISO, they caught the attention of many... Canon changed the film industry as the 5D really changed the way people shoot. Arri changed the film industry again with the Alexa as people like Roger Deakins jumped ship and never shot film again (almost) so those 2 cameras really revolutionized everything. Sony is still improving and I love their cameras but working in industry for many years, everybody just cares more about the next Alexa than the next Sony really :)
@indymogul3 жыл бұрын
Good points! I apologize if the title seemed misleading. It is the game we play on KZbin to gain attraction or interest in the video with a catchy title. We do feel the camera has changed the industry with its small form factor and power in low light. But certainly hasn’t changed it in the ways Arri has.
@mariofeil21653 жыл бұрын
@@indymogul I know (referring the title) and no worries. I'm just not a huge fan of those headlines but I understand why you chose to do so. BUT as I'm also a fan of Indy Mogul, I would click on those videos anyway even if the title is just slightly less catchy ;)

@Whatsup_Abroad3 жыл бұрын
Depends? If you are shooting on a film set probably not. The ability to use xlr, raw codecs in camera, record directly to an ssd, etc on the blackmagics would make them preferable in that type of shooting environment. Also the blackmagics don't apply any sharpening or noise reduction to your video whereas those things can't be completely turned off on the Sony. These features will generally make the black magic preferable on a film set or production shoot. The a7siii would be a better camera for run and gun though.
