Everyone who considers two opinions are better than one. Because when you want to make a choice, it takes two items. Then... if you can make a choice between a single thing, you're getting close to the event horizon. 😉 From experience (and I've been through 7 totally different jobs, aside from less-serious and non-lasting ones), I know several opinions and advice are better when it comes to helping me make choices. Sure, they have to be pertinent. But remember when DxO started, barely anyone was able to rank and judge sensors. We even hardly would know what dynamic range actually meant. And we were stuck, left to believe what manufaturers would print in their brochures. That was golden age, when they would print whatever would come to their minds during some briefing with 50% salesmen + 50% marketing gurus... free from specifications from film-makers, free at last, they could lie to their hearts content. Lie to us, that is. OK, DxO rankings are not perfect. But without them, we'd still live in the dark ages of sensor-dictatorship. Amnesia truly is a dangerous weapon, and sometimes it shoots backwards !

@candinmuniz32253 жыл бұрын
@@fightsandfinance7570 Hey Fights! Just want to throw my two-cents in here. I personally feel the Sony A6000 series is a great way to get into vlogging and streaming. You can get an A6000 for pretty cheap along with a Sigma 16mm F1.4 lens for around $800 (prices may vary in your area). Along with the Sony Webcam utility, you don't even need a capture card for streaming (though it would be a good idea to get one), you just need a USB cable to connect the camera to your computer. If you want some decent, but not the best, in-body image stabilization, you can pick up either an A6500 or A6600 for around $1200-$1500 depending on lenses and the area you're in. However, it is worth noting that there are MANY cameras that will serve you well as you start off, regardless of your platform. I would just stay away from cheapo DSLR's (low-end Nikon, Canons and the like.) You can even look at older bodies like the Panasonic GH4 or G85 to get you started. Just do your research and see which features are valuable to you. Hope this helps!

Very nice job, Gerald! One clarification re: audio - you can use your F6 with a -35dB attenuator cable and should be able to feed audio to the a7S III fine - just a note for those who would rather use their F6 rather than the XLR adapter. For MixPre, no attenuator cable needed - the output fader will reduce the levels adequately.
@CreateGreg4 жыл бұрын
An epic piece of advice! Thanks Curtis! 👍
@rsmith024 жыл бұрын
That makes a lot of sense- I was wondering about the same thing as I feed h4N line out to DSLRs using a Sescom attenuator.
@bbfoto72484 жыл бұрын
@Curtis Judd Was going to point this out, too. I have the MixPre-10 II as well, and have used other recorders with attenuator cables plenty of times in the past as well. Ha, and earlier today when the A7S-III's audio specs were revealed, I thought to myself that I would just wait for Curtis to test the internal digital and analog audio performance. ;) With the potential to record 4 tracks internally, it could definitely come in handy in certain circumstances. While I'm being extremely nitpicky here, whenever any type of resistor is used in an analog audio circuit, including as a passive attenuator, it adds a minute amount of noise/contributes to the overall noise floor and SNR. But it's insignificant for all intents and purposes here. Only if you were stacking or summing a great deal of tracks with attenuators would it become an issue.
@curtisjudd4 жыл бұрын
@@bbfoto7248 Thanks, yes, an interesting new set of audio features for a hybrid camera. One clarification: I have not specifically tested the a7S III input, just pointing out that there are other options given the F6's output issue. Would love for more of the manufacturers to implement a line level input setting on their hybrid cameras: A humble approach which concedes they are not the best equipped to provide high quality audio on their own and allow users to add other products to obtain better audio quality. And to your point re: resistors and attenuation cables - completely agree. In addition to adding noise via the resistor, it also sends the audio signal through two separate gain stages which isn't necessarily ideal, but probably "good enough" for most hybrid camera shooters.

Most people don't want to learn they want to be entertained, which is why the Peter McKinnon model is so successful, they want a charismatic vlogger first, then they don't care too much about technicals

My A7SIII arrived here in the UK last week and I'm loving it! What Gerald didn't mention in the image stabilisation section of his video is that Sony Catalyst Browse software (free download) has post stabilisation that uses gyro data from the A7S III and that allows you to get some of the most advanced stabilised video from the A7S III (without a gimbal and better than in body IS!!)

Love your detail, Gerald, per usual. I love that new control over manual rack focus.

I was unsure about this camera and R5. Without a doubt and no need to watch R5 review, I'm gonna go for A7s iii. Thank you man.

Gerald I just got my a7SIII. Please make videos on everything you said you would in this video! Especially a video about the Ninja V and what ssd’s are optimal for it

I can't believe I wasted the majority of my day watching other reviews of this camera (Casey aside), I definitely need to get undone more often. Cheers and thanks.

FINALLY A PROFESIONAL DYNAMIC RANGE ANALISIS! Probably the most important component in shooting video and nobody talks about it. Please do upload that comparison with the A7III, Fuji XT4, Blackmagic and other cameras. It´s so much need it! You have by far one of the top 3 channels on youtube.

Wow, what an amazing and worthy camera, and what a beautiful review, rich in feature details and nice comparisons with previous models, and so dense and specific that it really stays interesting. I'm really blown away by that tracking, battery life, obviously the amazing, amazing video features and thoughtfulness in the design!

“4k 60, full frame internal, with no crop, at 10bit 4:2:2, with no overheating” The fact that I get what these worlds mean is amazing. Just one year ago I wouldn’t be able to understand this sentence..

Who in their right mind would downvote this video?!?! It's such a damn good video that I have watched it multiple times to better understand the camera and whether it is right for me.

Buy a pair of 50dB XLR in-line barrel pads for line to mic attenuation. They are inexpensive but large and heavy enough to not want them hanging of the sides of your camera. Add a pair of short XLR cable extensions or attach at the source to solve that problem. Pads are so handy to have. For example say you need a line level feed from a mixer and want to be wireless. Put the pad between the mixer and an RF XLR Butt Plug Transmitter and your set. I did this for some ENG guys and they freaked out! It’s easy to go from line to mic levels because it’s fully passive and the quality of the components isn’t too critical. Shure, Sescom, or Whirlwind.

I think a lot of people are going to be comparing this camera to the R5 and I don’t think that’s fair to the Canon or the Sony. These cameras are for completely different people. The R5 is a hybrid camera with some solid video capabilities. The A7SIII is purely a video camera. The Sony users won’t be getting this camera for photography whatsoever. The R5 is for photography jobs, and the A7SIII is for videography jobs. Pretty simple I think.

Hmm, is it time for a sum-up video, Panasonic, Sony, Canon, Blackmagic.....where are we? What Camera for what purpose? What has been fixed, updated in firmware?
@dorythomas18164 жыл бұрын
Gerald you are the Ninja of reviewers I appreciate your hard work on testing and analyzing every aspect of a camera. One thing that has been bothering me and I wish they do something about it is We know auto white balance on sony is not usable at all Other cameras does much better but still I always set my white balance and color shift manually But I cannot do that while I am rolling I have to stop adjust and roll back again There are situations where it's not possible stop rolling to adjust Kelvin The only camera that I know of that can do that was Nikon It's a firmware thing and easily fixable but nobody is mentioning it. I hope you spot the light on that please. Thank you
