On a different note, the reason Japanese tanks where utterly horrible compared to other allied or axis(specifically German)tanks is because they didn't really focus on them as much, as they focused more on naval and aircraft production, so what do you do as an infantry soldier with no good tanks or antique AT weapons? you become the AT weapon.

The tanks were of little use in the many Pacific islands that required extra effort for them to be carried from island to island constantly. And even when they got to the island it was often full of forests and jungles which is the kind of terrain that all tank crews fear. Also, by 1942 the US had achieved mostly air superiority in the skies and any tanks that were caught in the open were great targets for the American Air Force. In addition by the time the island hopping campaign started, the Japanese were fully on the defensive,something which tanks are not made for. Finally, Imperial Japan was, like it’s ally Nazi Germany, short on resources and manpower, meaning if they mass produced tanks, there would be not enough fuel to run them all.

@@bradanklauer8926 For us it is indeed. It began on when Manchuria was invaded. Chiang Kai-shek is a massive L in historical regard. Before, during and after the war, he is known notoriously for white terror which puts Mao to shame in the regard. Heavy taxation and corruption formed the mention famine, and creating massive wealth gaps, even to a stage where the Americans stepped in. Intentionally collapsing the dam of Huayuankou, spending money sent by overseas Chinese for personal enjoyments etc. In 1945 where the Allies were steamrolling in every theater, he managed to lose a few thousand kilometers of frontline on what was probably the worst allied offensive in the late-war. A film made regarding this was released a few years back, im not sure if it is available on youtube or netflix - 1942, quite a good one, and was not politically biased - the Communists played an insignificant role in the film. The situation in Henan was so dire, due to the taxation, forced conscription and corruption, that people believed going under Japanese occupation was more acceptable. And those northerners were a staunch opposition of the Tosa clan which controlled the naval and air forces. Thus they tried to instigate the war between USSR and Japan and were humiliated. @philliplarose85702 жыл бұрын
@@richardstephens5570 The reason I used the term "Near equal force" is for this exact reason. In WWII; it was generally thought that an attacking force required about a 3:1 advantage in manpower to accomplish the combat goal. The 2:1 listed here (1.5 million vs ~750k+) would put the numerical advantage to the defender. And I totally agree that the Japanese army was depleted; as was the Guard's Battalions that attacked. The Soviet population lost 25% of their fighting age population in WWII; I doubt that meant the cream of the army was doing the attacking; and I doubt the training the Soviets were giving their conscripts was much more than the training of the Kwantung. The Soviet did have much better equipment due to lend lease, and much better experience; due to the Wehrmacht. I'm not trying to prop up the Soviets or idolize them, just point out that even with the factors; I think it is still very impressive.

Great video. But there are few inaccuracies. 1) 03:20 Tsarist Russia lost to Japan in 1905 (the surrender of Port Arthur and the collapse of the squadron near Tsushima), not 1904 2) 04:20 The main reason why Japan did not attack Soviet Union in 1941 was that Japan lost Battles of Khalkhin Gol in 1939 with heavy human casualties (you just have a small textbox about this in 10:31). This defeat and nonaggression pact between the USSR and Germany in 1939 caused the resignation of the Japanese government and signing treaty of neutrality between the USSR and Japan in April 1941 two month before Hitler invaded the USSR in June 1941. Japan changed its focus from Siberia to Southeast Asia, especially the petroleum and mineral-rich Dutch East Indies. Georgy Zhukov, who defeated the Japanese army at Khalkhin Gol, was subsequently appointed commander-in-chief of the Soviet army against Nazi Germany.
@UserName-om6ft Жыл бұрын
Japan would have actually attacked the USSR with Operation Kantokuen in 1941 if it wasnt for the US doing a fuel and oil embargo on Japan destroying Japans resources, it wasnt because of Khalkhin Gol, that was a tiny border skirmish and can hardly be applied to the wider war, it was thanks to the US doing the overwhelming vast majority of the work to defeat the Japanese empire thats why they didnt invade the USSR
@konstantinbush295 Жыл бұрын
@@UserName-om6ft This is probably what is written in your American textbooks. But this is far from an objective story. During the 4 months of Battles of Khalkhin Gol in 1939, about 20 thousand people died on both sides, a lot of armored vehicles, aircraft and horses. Oil supplies to Japan were critical and number one priority. Japan received oil from the United States and from Indonesia. At that time, no one knew about the oil fields in Siberia. The closest oil to Japan in the Soviet Union was in the Caspian Sea. It was simply stupid for the Japanese to climb into Siberia and suffer heavy losses there without extracting critical resources

@konstantinbush295 Жыл бұрын
@@UserName-om6ft 1) I hope you are not a chatbot spamming the list of US military campaigns against Japan. I don't know who you wrote all this for. 2) Estimates of Japanese military dead range from 2.5 million to 3.1 million. Most of them killed by Americans, but also by Britons, Aussies, Indians e t.c. In August 1945 700,000 Japan Kwantung Army was destroyed by the USSR. 3) Nazi Germany lost 6.9-7.4 million, mainly killed by the USSR. And also a million Axis soldiers allied with Nazi Germany on the eastern front. 4) The US single handedly destroyed the entire Japanese navy and air force - yes, it is a fact. 5) The USSR would have won against Nazi Germany in Europe without the help of the United States, but at a higher price. In early December 1941, the USSR inflicted a decisive defeat on the Germans in the battle for Moscow (and it was not a victory for General Frost). At that time, the USSR did not have any lend-lease and allied assistance, and the United States was just entering the WW2. By the time the US/UK/Canada landed in Europe, Hitler had already effectively lost the war to the Soviet Union. But with their landing in Europe and Lend-Lease, the Allies certainly brought victory in Europe closer. 6) Returning to the original topic. Already in 1939, after the Battles forKhalkhin Gol, the new government of Japan decided to conquer Southeast Asia instead of Siberia. Indonesian oil has become a priority for Japan. And no one needed to risk a war with the USSR without obtaining key resources in Siberia, the Japanese were not complete idiots. At that time in Siberia there were only forests, frost and evil Russians. The rich resources of Siberia were explored after the war. At the headquarters of every major military power there are various military plans for attacks on different opponents (including even allies), but this does not mean that they should be automatically applied. By the way, the United States imposed an embargo on oil supplies to Japan only in August 1941. So your whole theory that the United States saved the USSR with its oil embargo for Japan is no good. 7) Perhaps it is written in American textbooks that Americans are the only God-chosen exeptional nation that defeated Nazism all over the world. But in reality, you have to understand that this is not entirely true, and America is a rather young and still largely immature civilization.
@UserName-om6ft Жыл бұрын
@@konstantinbush295 yes over 70% of the Japanese KIA were from the Americans, and with Germany 60-70% of the Germans were also kiIIed by the Soviets, even less if we count captured, without the millions of US and Western troops defeating the Germans in Western Europe, Italy, and North Africa plus without the US giving the USSR billions of dollars worth of guns, ammo, tanks, planes, trucks, jeeps, tractors, trains and locomotives, boxcars, train rail tracks, tires, steel, explosives, aluminum, wire, rubber, gun powder, fuel, food, clothes, blankets, cotton, army boots, radios, and other crucial military and logistical equipment through US Lend Lease then the USSR would have been steamrolled by Germany, 40-50% of the tanks the SOviets used in the battle of Moscow came from the west, you should realize theres a difference between defending Moscow vs advancing thousands of miles across the entire continent of Europe to Berlin, Paris, and even the western beaches of France, without the military and logistical support of Lend Lease sent to the USSR, the Soviets would have no chance of advancing across Europe, In total, 92.7% of the wartime production of railroad equipment by the USSR was supplied by Lend-Lease, including 1,911 locomotives and 11,225 railcars which augmented the existing stocks of at least 20,000 American locomotives and half a million American railcars. Much of the logistical assistance of the Soviet military was provided by hundreds of thousands of U.S.-made trucks, 1/3rd of the truck strength of the Red Army was U.S.-built. Trucks such as the Dodge 3/4th ton and Studebaker 2+1/2 ton were easily the best trucks available in their class on either side on the Eastern Front. American shipments of telephone cable, aluminum, canned rations and clothing were also critical. Lend-Lease also supplied significant amounts of weapons and ammunition. The Soviet air force received 18,200 aircraft, which amounted to about 30 percent of Soviet wartime fighter and bomber production (mid 1941-45). About 13,000 Lend-Lease tanks were provided to the Soviet Union. A particular critical aspect of Lend-Lease was the supply of food. The invasion had cost the USSR a huge amount of its agricultural base, during the initial Axis offensive of 1941-42, the total sown area of the USSR fell by 41.9% and the number of collective and state farms by 40%. The Soviets lost a substantial number of draft and farm animals as they were not able to relocate all the animals in an area before it was captured and of those areas in which the Axis forces would occupy, the Soviets had lost 7 million of out of 11.6 million horses, 17 million out of 31 million cows, 20 million of 23.6 million pigs and 27 million out of 43 million sheep and goats. Tens of thousands of agricultural machines, such as tractors and threshers, were destroyed or captured. Agriculture also suffered a loss of labor, between 1941 and 1945, 19.5 million working-age men had to leave their farms to work in the military and industry. Agricultural issues were also compounded when the Soviets were on the offensive, areas taken back from the Axis had been devastated and contained millions of people who needed to be fed. Lend-Lease thus provided a massive number of foodstuffs and agricultural products. When the German army captured Ukraine, the USSR was on borrowed time because they had lost their breadbasket and food source, guess who kept the Soviets fed? The USA, during WW2 Lend-Lease data show that about 5.1 million tons of foodstuff left the United States for the Soviet Union. It is estimated that all the food supplies sent to Russia could feed a 12,000,000-man strong army a half pound of concentrated food per day, for the entire duration of the war. The Soviets couldnt even produce enough high octane aviation fuel for their planes so they had to rely on Lend Leased fuel, back to the Pacific, the Soviets made no difference in the outcome of the war against Japan, the US army, navy, and air force was already defeating the Japanese empire WITHOUT the Soviets, the Soviets were only responsible for a mere 1-2% of the Japanese KIA in WW2, When it comes to the battle of Khalkhin Gol. I don’t think you can extrapolate a border skirmish and apply that to the wider war. Especially when it was in 1939 and the Soviet war with the Germans was NOT ongoing at this time. The Japanese considered it a defeat, yes, but when you look at the actual numbers, the Japanese totally outclassed the Red Army by a wide margin. The Japanese went into the battle with only one third to one fourth the manpower the Soviets had (about 20,000 Japanese soldiers to the Soviets 74,000), and only 73 tanks compared to the Soviets 550!, and still suffered fewer casualties (Japanese suffered 18,000 casualties, Soviets about 28,000). By 1941 though, such an engagement would have involved millions of Japanese soldiers. With the outbreak of the Pacific War, Manchuria was largely a backwater to the conflict. However, as the war situation began to deteriorate for the Imperial Japanese Army against the United States, the large and trained Kwantung Army could no longer be held in strategic reserve. Many of its front line units were systematically stripped of their best units and equipment, which were sent to fight in the Pacific War against the forces of the United States. By 1945, the Kwantung Army consisted of 600,000 personnel, the quality of troops had fallen drastically, as all the best men and materiel were siphoned off for use in the war against the United States. These forces were replaced by militia, draft levies, reservists, and cannibalized smaller units, all equipped with woefully outdated equipment. The bulk of military equipment was developed in the 1930s, and very few of the soldiers had sufficient training or any real experience, you overhype Soviet importance far too much the facts prove otherwise

Many have argued that the bombing of Hiroshima was about saving American lives while avoiding the onslaught of Japanese's military and any would-be conscript defending Japan. Some, like myself, would argue that the bombing of Hiroshima was also meant to prevent Russia from invading Japan. The US have seen how fast the Soviet was occupying Germany. This became an advantage determining how fast the Soviet was mobilizing. If the American didn't bomb Hiroshima, the fighting and occupation would took a long time giving Russia time to "chip in" as ally. I can't express how much I loves our American history. But, part of me wants to know more about the truth more than the bias that distort the main idea.

@@UserName-om6ft Till mid-winter in 1941 all of our supplies were 85% self-made, we didn’t need your weapons or aid. We merely needed men and rifles, nothing more or less.

@@russkayaimperiya4918 Germany was still advancing until the very end of 1942 and start of 1943, and most of Lend Lease came in 1942, keep in mind your own Soviet leaders them selves Khrushchev, Zhukov, and even Stalin himself all admit that they would have lost the war if not for Lend Lease supplies, also keep in mind about the fact that the US built the Soviet industry in the 1920s and 1930s, without the American engineers, American architects, and American industrialists building the Soviet industry in the 1920s and 1930s then the Soviet industry in WW2 in the 1940s would have been a joke and the Germans would have steamrolled the Soviets but thanks to the US that didnt happen, how does it feel knowing your precious Russia is losing the war in Ukraine badly? who owns Kherson right now? 😂

@@UserName-om6ft What are you talking about? Russia didn't lose to Germany. They have their butt kick during the German's Operation Barbarossa invading Moscow. But, they never finish the job because the troops were not wearing winter clothes. Just like the Napoleon invasion invasion, they couldn't finish the job without proper thermal clothing. The battle of attrition would have been won if was not so. Many German troops have froze to death while some manage to get on the plane leaving for Germany.

Finaly a video about the Soviet-Japanese war, great job. If only you'd mentioned the Kuril islands dispute between Russia and Japan that came as a result and still lasts to this day, then it'd be perfect.

Red Army was very mighty. They defeated Japan in 1939 also. Halder also ignored warning from Paulus about the failure of operation Barbarossa
