Hey guys! In this video I go into detail about how the Spinosaurus was originally supposed to kill the T-rex in Jurassic Park 3! Now JP3 is well known for not exactly sticking to the script so closely but this Tyrannosaurus vs Spinosaurus scene was also totally different. Today I'm going to be explaining how that battle would have gone down and narrate what the Spino and Rex COULD have done in the film. Hope you all enjoy! :D

I kinda feel like the extended death scene would have made fans a bit more okay with the t-rex death. Actually showing the animal holding it's own and having a brutal fight would have been, in my opinion, much more respectful (for lack of a better word) towards the rex and I feel like it would have also did a way better job showing the sheer power and strength of the spino.

They went the cheapest route possible of course. An extended cgi fight would have been costly and I bet they didn't have enough of a budget during the timeframe which is unfortunate.

The one in the movie is way too short, but that had the one good effect (in my mind at least) of making it feel more real. Fights in reality don’t have long drawn out death scenes, and most are won with one or two decisive moves. That’s the case with almost everything, from gun fights, to fencing, and even to real fights between animals like tigers and lions. I did t go into the movie looking for realism, and I would have loved a longer fight sequence, cause Jurassic park needed something like this when we got to movie three, but given the spino animatronic destroyed the Rex one with its first blow, they had to cut back. Sucks that we didn’t get more.

Personally, even with the fight we got, if it had been delayed for a good chunk of the movie, the fight would have been better. Have a points where both are near, but having the setup be that both predators are avoiding each other because they are big, apex predators and the issue becomes a section of the movie with the humans staying on the border that's creating challenges between them...hell, having them arrange the fight could be interesting

I agree and also say I think it would have quelled a bit of the fighting that happened because of the fight. The main thing was it ended up being a kick that caught the Rex off guard setting up for a kill and not with Rex actually having bit him causing the uproar. I loved the idea of large predators actually fighting and people dodging them as the predators avoid each others shots as opposed to "I Bite, you Bite" where it doesn't work out as well.

AzraelThanatos I think they done the fight at the start just to show viewers how powerful this creature is, because at that point the viewers have only seen the T-Rex dominate, but if they kept it for later on, it would of been more suspenseful as the spino could have died, but because the fight was at the start, the spino couldn't have died because it wouldn't make sense.

Is it possible that Colin Trevorrow took some inspiration from that version of the fight? Because some parts of that fight remind me of the Rexy vs Indominus fight. For example the part where the Rexs head is on the ground just a few feets away from the humans. A bit like in JW where the Indominus smashed the head of the T.rex in a small building where Owen and the kids are in. It's a bit similar, but maybe thats just me. To give my opinion, i'm glad we got the other version. Don't get me wrong, dinosaur fight are cool, but it would have made the whole T.rex vs Spino argument even worse when the Spino had absolutely destroyed the Rex. And, after 17 years, i can't hear this argument anymore.

I remember reading about the fight and how it was meant to be more of a throwback to older dinosaur fights like King Kong and the Valley of Gwangi. I also remember reading about how when the Rex animatronic's head was ripped off, they had a mini funeral of sorts for it. My main issue with the fight was always that it lasted only 25 seconds and it ended as quickly as the skirmish began, especially since they were going for a Ray Harryhausen styled fight.

@@HaddieKaur Yes it would be the more the likely scenerio. However they just wanted to a new bigger dino harassing the protagonists so another hollywood inaccuracy for the sake of plot. Spinosaurus was bigger though; it was longer and taller even if the height is mostly due to the fin. It was a far less powerful animal however streamlined for a specialised life beside bodies of water making it a lot lighter despite it's size. Most likely the T-Rex would have completely snapped the spinos neck with that first bite. It would have been just over there and then. Had the Spino managed to get away some how it still would have succumb to the horrendous infection caused by the Rex bite but there is no way to know for sure in truth these animals lived on different continents at different eras and it's a movie after all. Just based of what we know about both animals, realistically that first bite from Trex would have just ended the encounter.

I understand pushing the Spino to the forefront of that particular movie. I still just hate that it came at the expense of the T. Rex. Maybe they should've had two encounters. First round going to the Spino and the second to the T. Rex at the end where they use the Rex's victory to escape. Would've saved both dinos faces and made both look powerful.

You see thats the thing I am fine with Rex dying the point was to provide a hybrid some reasoning and show that they can be dangerous... the BIG issue is people latched on to the Rex and now Rex has become a "you cannot kill this" type removing the animal reality of the rex and making it.. This sounds like the fight would've been more satisfying. I'm not expecting a sprawling 3rd act of The Avengers style fight where it lasts 20 minutes but a more drawn out brawl would've helped the movie a bit, even if they had changed NOTHING else. Instead of saying for the last 18 years, "Man, all that build up for such a lousy fight," we could've been saying, "Yeah, the Rex may have lost but...credit where it's due, that was pretty cool."

It also would have played out better as the bite that hit the spino currently wouldnt 'have hit and the slash on rex would have made it try to retreat as most predators do. The end of him killing Rex was more of a fact statement that while Rex was powerful it was caught off guard and proved that the Spino pretty much out played it.

I feel like this scene paints a better picture for the Trex actually. A more drawn out fight is far less emasculating than the neck snap we got in the final film. Because it really makes it seem like a hard struggle, even for the Spino.

A rex wouldn't be able to even reach anything on a spino that big and the spino would literally just be able to run it over. And spino wasn't a quadruped, look at scott hartman's 2021 skeletal. Nobody thinks its a quadruped anymore. Stop thinking everything is an opinion just because you don't know anything about paleontology. And stop worshipping 300 pound, 5'6'' bodybuilders. If I had a say in how the Spino killed the Rex, I would’ve had the Spino slash the Rex’s neck with its claws, or maybe rip it with its teeth. I think that’d be both more believable and more badass

Very cool! Imho this version sounds much more realistic and actually possible than what we saw in JP3...Though I am a self admitted T-rex fan, his death alone didn't bother me as much as the way the fight was portrayed. This original version sounds much more plausible and I would have totally been on board! I mean seriously, how many animals lived through having a tyrannosaurs jaws' wrapped around their neck? Especially a relatively spindly though large fish eater? Love the Spino too (what an amazing animal!), but what we got wasn't very believable at least to me.

I think the final fight we got to see makes more sense than this alternate version. The long weak jaws of the spino would have a hard time crushing the life out of the T-Rex and the version we got to see has the spino using its strong arms to help break the T-Rex’s neck. A main issue with the fight was how short it was. Two of the largest predators definitely would be fighting for a lot longer similar to two bears fighting Also I hate how stupid the original fan "outrage" was. T Rex isn't a character, it's a wild animal and it isn't immortal against a more larger, mobile, and aquatic predator.

It would've worked better if they had cut away from the fight and leave it up to the viewers to decide who won. For example, when the two giants are fighting, the scene transitions to the humans running away, with roars being heard in the background, then finally transitions to grant punching Kirby; maybe with a subtitle that says 5 minutes later or something. Of course, the spino would have to appear again after that, but it would still be pretty vague as to how the fight went down. Also, I couldn't even tell that this fight was all CG, (say what you will about part 3, but the effects were awesome) and that's what makes the effects of the original trilogy work where the JW movies don't. They switch from animatronics to CG so the audience is 'tricked' into not knowing the difference.

Well, indominus took multiple gun fires from 2 squads and effortlessly through a truck off screen into the air. Took a ankylosaurus tail to the face and didn't do anything, but rexy somehow did WAY more damage than a ankylosaurus or butt load of guns. Let's just say jp dinos are strong as freak. Also rexy lifting a truck in the rain aswell or capable chasing a jeep for a min.

It's way more epic/brutal and outright SCARY/suspenseful as the T.Rex got THAT close to accidentally killing the characters. sounds like it would have been an incredible scene, it's written very cinematically. I could practically see it playing out in my head. as for the fight in general I don't necessarily have anything against the spinosaurus killing the T.rex, but I've always thought it would have been a better move to have the fight end in the Tyrannosaur retreating, or just not show any ending, so the results are only sort of implied. I think it would have made the same point about the Spinosaurus being more powerful, without killing off the franchise icon.

The current fight is hard enough to watch with seeing my beloved dinosaur being killed. Seeing it get crushed would've been even more difficult to watch. I could also see those who have issue with the current battle being more upset with such a battle. But my biggest disappointment with the battle was the fact it was near the beginning of the film. It was the only great scene in a movie that was, sadly, underwhelming. When I saw these two dinos squaring off the first time I watched it, I knew we could be in trouble with the rest of the movie.

I think this one would have done Rex more justice as he wasn't just... bit down on after having bit the Spino... a kick gutting or cutting something in the Rex's leg and side is more of a fight turner than what the final version got. Does rex die? yea, BUT it wasn't as cut off from facts about those dinosaurs. We get now that Spino is a Hybrid but at the time.. they didn't say much so it caused controversy. The version he read out would have caused less of it.

I think you misunderstand the point of the chomping down.. it is weakened and down and it is shaking it to make sure it's teeth got the job done... the head taking off was that the animatronic was too powerful and ripped off the head accidentally... they weren't going to have that stay. I may be a Spino fan but getting caught off guard is a better death than a bite strength contest which was where the controversy was really started.

I think I see what they were going for with this alternate version. I think they were going to play up the Spinosaurus to have a similarly lethal crocodilian bite force to go along with its crocodilian head, so the audience would be horrified to see a dinosaur with a legendarily terrible bite like the T-Rex meet its end like a lion caught in the jaws of a crocodile, literally having the life crushed out of it.

I remember watching Jp3 as a kid and I have got over it awhile back. I mean the big problem that got me wasn't the fact that the Trex dies it was how badly they went away from scientific facts. Yes they have learned a ton about trex since the movie as well with the spino but looking back at the fight they should of made it longer and more towards the end of the movie. Some things during the fight they did get right like the trex head butting the spino, what really got me is how does a bite from the trex do absolutely no damage whatsoever? That bite would of been leathal if not would of badly hurt the spino. I do like what they did with the spino in the movie just a lot of mysteries that are still unknown! It would be cool to see a rematch but at the same time it may cause more trouble. Maybe have Rexy fight the spino and rexy wins barely. Have the movie end with Rexy giving the audience one last rawr. Than have Rexy go off as an icon for Jurassic park and fans. It will be hard to see her die but completely understand if it's the last movie end it with a bang! I expect them to go all out in the next movie! With that being said great video! I definitely enjoy you're content and can't wait for JW3!

The diff. script would've been fairly equal(one not used) because it's whatever organism fucks up(Ex:trex fucked up because it wasn't cautious of the fallen opponent). @@nuke2099 I don't think a T.rex would ALWAYS win against a Spino(that's impossible) since we barely even know 30% about Spino(plus even it's stance is still being debated up to this point) while Rex is around 80-85% known now. So in reality, the Spino still hasn't shown most of its cards and is still quite a mystery. But for me, whenever a T.rex and Spino fight(If ever that can happen) the winner will be left in the worst condition as possible.

Tyrannosaurus was in no way an exclusive scavenger. No large carnivorous animal can sustain itself purely by scavenging, especially when it's more than three times the size of it's closest competition. The only animals that subsist purely by scavenging are vultures, and the only reason they can get away with it is they can fly.
