The Islamic State has claimed responsibility for a terrorist attack in Kabul, Afghanistan, where at least 13 U.S. servicemembers and 60 Afghans were killed
Eyewitness News reporter Matt Houston asks Jeremi Suri, a University of Texas historian and global affairs expert, how that organization is different from the Taliban, and why they're fighting each other.

There is a difference between the Taliban and ISIS, the Taliban whose goal is to expel US and foreign forces from Afghanistan and rule the country according to Islamic law. As for ISIS, it has an international dimension without borders and considers all lands to be liberated as well. It follows the method of suicide bombings and attacks to achieve its goals, and considers even Western countries as targets.

One big thing, the US did NOT "prevent" isisk from acting in Afghanistan, in fact their presence made it much more difficult for Taliban to fight isisk, and they only allowed them to gather/train over time untill they saw more opportunities to attack.

As a Muslim who is not very sympathetic to your government or Fox, this was actually a very fair and accurate segment relatively. Especially the man with the library behind him. And the way you broke down the Sufi kings and Soviet subversion was very good. I am surprised by this segment on Fox, well done lol.

You must not know much either if you think what he's saying is remotely accurate. 1. The Taliban aren't Salafi-Revisionist, they're Orthodox Hanafi and follow the Deobandi school which was founded in North India, not KSA. Since they've returned to power, they've been cracking down on many Salafist schools, just like they did in the late 90s. It's ISK that recruits from Salafists. Salafis ("Wahhabis") are explicitly anti-Sufi and consider Ashari and Maturidi to be apostates, whereas the Deobandis are Sufis themselves and as Orthodox Hanafis are Maturidi in _aqidah_ (doctrine). Salafism is to Hanafism as what Protestantism is to Eastern Orthodoxy. Hanafis are _muqallid_ whereas the Salafis, the Ahle Hadees, and to an extent the Ikhwanis are _ghair-muqallid_ (schismatics). The past decade's trend of conflating the Taliban with Salafism reminds me of the mid-90s to mid-2000s trend of conflating Hezbollah and AQ together which completely disregarded the difference between Sunni and Shia, let alone Salafist and Shia. Now it's a disregard for Hanafi muqallid and Salafi ghair-muqallid. 2. The division between Taliban and their opponents isn't North vs South, nor was every northerner part of the Northern Alliance, which itself was marred by infighting between rival warlord factions. The Taliban are majority Pashtun but not exclusively. The Taliban since the 2010s has more support and membership in the north than they did back in the 90s. 3. The Trump admin didn't release "the leader" of the Taliban, their emirs have always been out. They released *_a_* leader (senior member) and co-founder of the movement. 4. The ISK didn't "move in", they formed in 2014 and the first thing they did was behead Taliban members and began massacring people by directly targeting minorities, aid workers and students. The int'l media didn't cover it because they and the former govt kept blaming the IEA/Taliban for these attacks even though majority of these attacks were claimed by the ISK. The US didn't "prevent a turf war" at all, it was mainly the Taliban fighting the ISK while the ANA and the US just let it run wild as a convenient proxy.

@@realtalk6195 I know everything you think you're telling me. Most Salafis and Najdis are HANAFI. The only school of thought that takes from Muhamad Ibn Abdul Wahab from the 4 Madhabs is HANAFI. They are tied together and come from the same womb. There is hardly any difference at all between them.. There's only a cultural difference because 'Salafis' are basically an expression of Arab Nationalism and Deobandis revolve around a different region and culture. I'm Maliki so if you know anything from my perspective there is no difference. What is the difference? You can only name differences in the specific history because they revolve around different places. They are the same. And the books of MIAW and the attitude they take towards making Takfir based upon if you give Bay'a to their leader is the same. But Taliban seem more just..

@@realtalk6195 How are Deobandis Sufis lool why do Most Hanafis today consider MIAW and the Dawah't Al Najdiyyah to be upon the Haqq and they take knowledge from them? They consider MIAW as a great scholar among their scholars. This is from my experience
