Never realized from watching other videos on the topic how MUCH the elbow folds in. This drill was an eye opener. Thank you!!!

Going a bit further back in the backswing i have started feeling as if i am pulling my trail elbow behind my behind my back to start downswing. Totally has changed path more in to out. Then progressing into this spear strike. It is helping my over the top path and contact. Going slow is starting to transfer to full speed swing. Appreciate the help at impact. It will take time but i am blessed with patience. Really clear instruction is truly a blessing!

Thanks, the trail arm is so key, seems like it’s giving you some really good results so keep it up 🙌

Another eye opening video for me as I have a launch angle/compression issue from 7iron upwards. The drills and feels you go through really are easy to follow. Thank you Chris

Brilliant video Hopefully start playing again after 6 months off and an op so will definitely be trying this. Seem to remember oosthuizen always practicing this move you used to see him a lot setting his elbow joint in his set up. Helps prevent the flying elbow aswell 👍

Thanks Chris , well explained again. My problem is wrist flipping and lead arm breaking down at impact with the ball in front of me in competition, yes , it’s in the head, hcp 10 and going nowhere. This drill should help me with that too. Will be working hard on this at practice.

Hope it helps Brian, i know what you mean about being in competition, I’m going through some changes at the moment and on the range I feel like I can get close… take me on the course where it matters and it’s a different story

First off love your drills. They seem to work for me. I’ve seen much improvement in a short amount of time. The thing I’ve been working on a lot lately is my stance distance from the ball. Just when i think I have it down I’ll chunk the heck out of it or top it. I can’t wait to practice the spear drill. My question is will my stance distance from the ball change at all after I accomplish the correct spearing into the ground drill? The reason I’m asking is because after I feel like I’m properly and consistently keeping my trail arm where it needs to be in my swing and then end up, not stroking the ball as good as I was before or it starts going a different direction? Thank you

Does this trail arm position apply to hybrids, fairway woods and driver?

Yes Mark all clubs would be the same

Great tips Chris. Thank you. It’s a shame when the majority of golfers (from a behind shot viewpoint) you actually can’t see the lead elbow, meaning the trail arm isn’t tucked anywhere near to what it needs to be. Plus the impact position is also a big key. I don’t have any practice shots during a round. However, I just get annoyed when playing with people who have 3-4 practice shots which are all wrong and then they just complain about everything else when the ball just doesn’t go to where they hope. I just keep my mouth closed unless asked. When I do, I’ve just been referring them to watch your channel. Makes my life so much easier so thank you again for your content as now I just concentrate on my own game without trying to help others.

Thanks Marcus that’s good of you hope they find some of the videos helpful Very true about the practice swings too, if that’s incorrect there isn’t much hope of the real swing being correct

@@ChrisRyanGolf It’s also a frustration that I know I need to let go of. Particularly as my home backs on the to a tricky par 3, where if you don’t land it on the green then you’re in a bit of trouble unless it’s long. Some mornings I just put on one of my Taylormade branded caps, sit back with a cuppa outside and watch. From the upstairs balcony I can also see the entire hole. The percentages of the ones who land it on the green are significantly in favour of those who don’t take any practice shots. Just love the sound from a pure strike and watching players who make better ball contact than I only dream about.

Wow. This really helped me. Incorporated it into my range session today (too wet to play) and it made a big difference to my strike quality and thus shot shape/height/distance. I have always found "tempo" was my thing to get away from snatchy / throwy strikes and this trail elbow/arm exercise seemed to help with that too holding the downswing timing. So do I risk "taking it to the course" tomorrow for St David Day Stableford 🤔 I mean what could possibly go wrong 😂 ?
@ChrisRyanGolf10 ай бұрын
Thanks Andy, did you take it to the course??
@andybird610210 ай бұрын
@@ChrisRyanGolfI did and in a "comp" too 😂. It was generally positive but as always trying something new is a bit of a risk with a couple of wayward ones. Definitely a step forward for me & feels like this is "the future". I have a lesson on Monday so will discuss further with our Club Pro at Hockley

Absolutely, a poor trail arm position can cause a lot of the bad shots you may hit
