Hey Andrew, I'm happy to say I was at watches and wonders, and it was great. I went and saw the tudor stand and it was good. The black bay 54 yes it is smaller. Tudor had popup stands in Geneva and I thought for a second I was blind, because the black bay 54 kept disappearing on peoples wrist. No the black bay 54 wasn't invisible, they were selling so fast, I thought they were. No I didn't purchase one, instead I went and bought a chocolate, a tudor chocolate dial royal. I heard the chocolates there are good too.

Tudor hit it out of the park with the BB54. I was hoping that everything that the 54 is would be offered on the 58. Tudor's designs embody what their customers want to communicate with their choice of watch: quality, longevity, value for money, informed decision-making. Call it boring, but there aren't many options that capture this ethos quite like the Black Bays. Whether we want to admit it or not, the non-verbal message we convey with our appearance is important, especially in the professional space. In that context, I think Tudor is doing a great job occupying a space that was vacated by Rolex many years ago.

I think it’s great that the trend for big watches is on the wane (Breitling take note) but it’s worth noting that the world watch market that has the largest number of smaller wristed buyers is still steadfastly in love with huge, massive watches whose lugs hang well over the edges of their wrists!

I think Tudor is going to become the more discreet, less exagerated Rolex. Just like Rolex was 20 years ago. And available, as Rolex was a decade ago. The 37 mm size for a dive watch is perfect. I wear a 36mm Datejust. With this new smaller size, Tudor black bay 54 will be my first dive watch.

Thanks Andrew. Great video as always. I think Tudor is about to win the match against the old bro' Rolex by implementing a kind of commoditization of Rolex classical designs. You are right: Tudor is fulfilling everyone's need to be seen as mainstream. You will see that, with the inception of the BB54, there will be a lot of BB58 for sale, people wanting to follow the general trend for smaller watches. That is smart marketing but I always favour the brands that foster innovation, new designs and creativity/originality. Hail to MB&F (and Christopher Ward for you know that I love my CW C1 Bel Canto!)

I think they won the hearts of small watch loving/small wristed enthusiasts in the community. Truly I can't recall anybody asking for that, but the inspiration and execution is spot on. It's probably too early in the life cycle, but what we really want is the refinements of the Black Bay 41 diver put into the BB58 - grippier bezel/crown, T-fit, Oyster or Jubilee err 5-link, and rubber strap options. The new slimmer 41 may be more for my giant self, though I would need to try it on. Interestingly, my Tudor AD rep was puzzled and did not think it would sell well (at least in our market here in the U.S.). It will be interesting to see how well it sells beyond the initial new Tudor hype cycle where they're unobtainable until they are suddenly sitting in cases. My AD seems to have everything but the Pelagos 39 and FXD at the moment. Even every variant of the Pelagos 42mm on bracelet is there.

But deep inside, we know that all we'll ever need is that reliable, comfortable, fuel efficient car that will get us to point A to point B with zero fuss. That's what this Tudor for most of us. A watch with rich history, iconic design, great build, tells the time, and hugs our wrists perfectly.

Quick suggestion: try the BB39 in blue. That's the Tudor which makes you feel you're still you after all ! It's the OP Rolex doesn't make anymore, but better and, at the same time, the BB no one knows one wants until it ends up on one's wrist and take down any remaining trace of resistance. That sunray dial, that shade of blue, that bracelet (which could indeed taper a bit more) and those rounded flanks... Thank me later.

It looks so so so beautiful. And the sapphire glass is box shape or whatever it’s called. Looks like an old hexalite “or whatever it’s called” glass. It has a Seiko quartz movement with sweeping second hand, and this hand is blue…while the other two hands are Dauphine style. The price is sooo cheap it makes me wonder many many things I will not say because they are obvious. To say I am in love with this cheap Chinese marvel would be….you know. As the owner of too many Tudors now, I'm more excited about the BB54 that I ever was about the 58, the Pelagos 39 is on the list, as is the new BB Burgundy on Jubilee, and perhaps a BB 39 S&G or new for '23 blue sun ray. I know, that is a problem, trying to decide... I absolutely agree that they've been leading - Rolex releases in both Ti and yellow gold this year after Tudor's FXD, BB39, BB S&G, GMT S&G, BB Chrono S&G all in yellow gold last year and the year before are further proof of that leadership. Charting their own path? Who other than Omega has Master Chronometer certification (love my BB Ceramic).
@omarkabbani4002 Жыл бұрын
Tudor seem to be dominating the small dive watch space. In addition to the BB58, the Pelagos 39, we now have the BB54. They are all great value compared to likes of Rolex and Omega etc. Is the BB54 the best release @W&W2023? I'm not sure. Probably not. The anniversary edition daytona has rolex fans drooling and for me, the skeltonised Cartier Santos Dumont (the blue one) is a jaw dropper. I dont think Tudor has been innovative enough with the new BB54, its just rehashing an already successful line up of divers. I agree that Tudor is a test bed for Rolex though. You cannot avoid feeling the new Rolex Yacht Master in titanium derives inspiration from the Pelagos 39. Perhaps the Yachtmaster is the biggest drop we've seen this year yet, ironically thanks to Tudor. Keep up the great work Andrew. 👍

I'm fortunate enough to have a medium-sized 18cm wrist where I can comfortably wear up to a 42mm without it feeling ridiculous. But that makes 37mm a hard deck. That puts this is at the other extreme end for me, so I probably won't be picking this one up. Andrew, you should cover the Hermes H08 line next. Out of the watches that I could potentially afford, these were the W&W standouts for me (the PF Tonda platinum being the standout I cannot afford).

The BB58 is only a 'boring, vanilla' watch if you're deep into watches and look at them everyday. Fact is, in my family, and I suspect most others as well, no-one has a watch that's worth even 1/5 the cost of a Tudor. So when I'm looking at purchasing a high quality everyday watch, that can be dressed up or down, used on the bracelet, leather straps, and NATOs, and is generally a dive watch aesthetic, the BB58 is my choice. I was on a wait list until my work situation changed and I decided to go back to school. When I graduate, guess what I'm buying.

When comparing the BB54 with the BB58. BB54’s bracelet is an obvious improvement, but I feel 39mm is a perfect size for a sports / dive watch. I love BB58’s gilt bezel numerals, red iconic triangle (Rolex Big Crown) and the snowflake seconds counter weight. All these charming characteristics have been removed on the BB54. Also the lugs on the BB54 are proportionally bigger giving it a less elegant, squared look.
