Isnt the doom eternal holograms supposed to be a gag all together? It's not like doom 2016's holos. Eternal took the edgy piss out of the 2016's story and focused on gameplay

The point about the Holos being everywhere in obscure places really unveils the dichotomy in how Doom 2016 levels feel like actually places. Places that people live and work and such. Even some of the Hell levels feel designed in a way that you know things exist there outside of the levels use. Whereas Doom Eternals levels feel just like that, levels. Like a grimdark first person mario game. This isn’t even a negative imo, just something worth noting I think.

Does anything *really* matter in the grand scheme of things? All will be oblivion given enough time. We do our best to enjoy the time we have though, and making videos is something that gives me joy.
@somepretentiousguy34924 ай бұрын
Yes, that's why the first video's title ends with "and why that matters." As the old saying goes, "grains make ounces, and ounces make pounds." A thousand tiny problems that would be unnoticeable on their own can add up to be an unmistakable mess. And the goofy holograms in Eternal were a big enough problem for me to distinctly remember thinking "okay, please shut the fuck up" in my first playthrough of Eternal.

You forgot what John Carmack himself said about story or lore in a video game. It’s that of a porn film. It doesn’t matter despite being there.
@Syy4 ай бұрын
@@rickyrackey7930 He said that in the 90s. The kind of games he would've been reffering to were like, Super Mario or Commander Keen. Games have come a long way since then. But if you actually think the story in a game doesn't matter, this isn't really the channel for you. Sorry.
@rickyrackey79304 ай бұрын
@@Syy That is true. But this franchise is one that still follows that philosophy and I think that is one thing that makes it stand out from all the other story driven games in Modern day.

I would totally understand this type of critique in a game like Dead Space where the story is the main driver for the game and it’s meant to be a realistic take on a person’s descent into madness. But I don’t necessarily understand how the holograms are having such a negative impact on your experience for something like Doom. It’s not the focus of these games.

Thank you for making these, I was baffled how far the writing fell in Eternal. I was so invested in the story from 2016 and Eternal's writing was so disappointing. Especially about that point about the environments! I hated how random the holograms in Eternal felt, where were the announcements giving tidbits of info about the BFG 10K, or the facilities in Super Gore Nest, or the oil drills in Atlantica? One of the best parts of 2016's holograms was getting some of that bite sized history from the announcements with each level. You're right, it's a perfect microcosm of the writing in Eternal, and ugh it's unbelievably so eye-rolling. That's the thing about Eternal's writing *most* of the time, eye-rolling. And every time you mention this, all anyone says is "DONT THINK ABOUT IT IT DOESNT MATTER ITS A DOOM GAME STORY DOESNT MATTER AAAH". It's frustrating. Here's hoping The Dark Ages drops this awful, tryhard comedy.

Remember when Carmack said "story in a game is like story in porn movie"? Honestly just stick with the original Doom games, they're better in every way than 4 and Eternal. Even 3 had a better execution than any of this new junk.

While the "mortally challenged" joke is too much of a reoccurring gag. Did it hurt your feelings? Should they have filled it with more orange demon bad jokes instead to even it out? At the end of the day. It's kinda refreshing that a studio takes the piss out off the "progressives" and their meaningless feel good language they employ.

DOOM Eternal’s internal environments look awful, and the story is garbage. Nowhere near as cared for by the developers as 2016 was. Lighting looks bad, texture quality is worse, VFX has been removed, the list goes on. The world of Eternal does not feel lived in
