From the moment Spotify suggested Love Like Ghosts to me in 2015, I have been a Ben Schneider disciple and Lord Huron superfan. When they released Vide Noir, I was there at midnight. When they hit Tulsa on their Vide Noir tour on October 1, 2018, I was there. When they hit Las Vegas on the Long Lost tour on my 21st birthday, I was there, too...belly on the barrier, singing along to every lyric, so thoroughly fortunate. The staff were able to give me Ben's guitar pick from that night and I currently have it in a locket. Thank you so much for giving words to the amazement that I feel towards Lord Huron.

This album did really help me with the idea of my own mortality. The themes of growing old and regretting life helped me gain perspective on our short lives here. I got "may you live until you die" tattoed on my arm. To remind myself that life may be meaningless but we can make our own meanings from it.

Thank you for this! When I first started listening to Lord Huron seriously, it felt like discovering an amazing treasure, a rich imaginative world I could get lost in. The albums are all truly works of art, meant to be listened to start to finish because they tell such a complex story. The Lord Huron universe has definitely become my niche obsessive interest and I know there is still so much I haven’t discovered! When I saw them live last summer, it was such a magical experience I will never forget. They are not just musicians, they are storytellers on and off stage. I try to tell everyone I can about Lord Huron because almost everyone knows The Night We Met, but almost no one knows that that song closes a powerful thematic album - it’s just a tiny piece of the larger puzzle. If everyone realized Ben Schneider’s creative genius I think they would be the most famous band in the world!

The first time I heard this album in full was when I saw Lord Huron live during their Long Lost tour. Listening to it live genuinely changed me forever. Long Lost transports me into this alluring, intricate world Lord Huron has created. "What Do It Mean" and "Long Lost" are two of the most beautiful and emotional songs I have ever listened to. The pure passion and sincerity Lord Huron's work holds is unmatched by any other artist I know, and this essay perfectly conveys this belief. I'm so thankful that this album is receiving the love it deserves!

When I first discovered Lord Huron, his songs doesn't just get me in my feelings, but they also evoke me to think in a better perspective. To live with past memories and regrets are always the things we do as humans, but how we deal with it is something that is always in our control. Regardless of the decisions we make, we are conscious and alive, constantly moving forward with time. So through him, I figured out what to do with those memories as I used to grief for the past and now I cherish them despite how bitter it was, to leave it behind in time, to look forward in the moment and just live.

One of the themes of this album that really struck me was Lord Huron's departure from an idealistic view of love in what I felt were traditional "love stories" in Lonesome Dreams and Strange Trails. Previously the characters in their albums embarked on quests either with the intention to return to their lover (Lonesome Dreams) or because they were looking for love along the way (Strange Trails). The loss of a lover at the end of Strange Trails is tragic, but the love itself wasn't tarnished. Vide Noir (both the album and the film) set up a similar story but in the end Buck is left to realize that, even after completing the quest that brought his life meaning, the love he thought he shared with Lee wasn't real. In this way, I feel like Vide Noir sets up a more realistic depiction of love stories that we see in Long Lost, in which partners can lie, cheat, be jealous/possessive, or fall out of love altogether. They propose getting lost instead of questing for a person or a specific goal. Long Lost forces the audience to depart from finding meaning in love and find it instead within the self.

This album might have an interesting concept but Vide Noir, their previous album, musically speaking, was much more of a life changer for me. It came at the perfect time when I was uprooting heading to the Great lakes after 38 years in California. Something about having your life in your car when you listen to that in the desert hits different. I found this follow up to be pretty good, this video makes me want to give it a second chance and see if it can do some "changing" but it certainly going to take more than a cool concept.
