I live near the house of David. They have continued to play local games with old-fashioned rules and equipment against locals, and have played likely the last they'll ever play in the last couple years. My parents played against them multiple times, as did I in what could have been their last ever game of any sort. It's avery unique group that certainly lives up to this reputation. So cool to see this video.

The house of David...I knew it. Im surprised hardly anyone knows of these guys. Most young people seem to think baseball started in 1990

I play for the Chicago Salmon vintage base ball club. Every year we play a match at the House of David in Benton Harbor.

During the shutdown, I would look up parks to go to in West Michigan on google maps. I saw the house of david on the map and decided to have a look around. The original field is vaguely plotted out, it's now a campground. They also had an amusement park, which people were doing restoration work to while I was there. The residences of the commune were a bit down the road from the park.

I learned about the House of David from the 1952 Doris Day/Ronald Reagan movie “The Winning Team”. According to the film, Pete Alexander played for the HOD when he was too sick with alcoholism to compete in the majors.

Imagine Babe Ruth's 20k in 1920 though, a single family house cost like 6.3k on average, and a gallon of milk was 33 cents. He'd still be living large

The MLBPA needs to unionize the minors and join as a single collective. That would give them more power.

Agreed I think MLB should use what both the NBA and NFL use and have no Minor Leagues, as soon as they get drafted, they can play
@Sam_on_YouTube2 жыл бұрын
@@rowdyboys951 That's not really better. First, the NFL has an unpaid minor league in college football. The NBA and MLB use college a little as a minor league, but not to the extent football does. And that's a different but equally thorny can of worms. But unlike basketball, players take a lot more development before they're ready. The top high school players and a lot of college players can play in the NBA. The same isn't true of MLB. Players peak in their late 20s and aren't MLB ready until their mid 20s after a lot of professional instruction typically.
@rowdyboys9512 жыл бұрын
@@Sam_on_KZbin But no one attends Minor League games since they’re not being played at a professional level, unless the MiLB makes changes to bring in larger crowds, hardly anyone will go to the games. Also why does it take longer for those in the MLB to develop than in any other sport?
@Sam_on_YouTube2 жыл бұрын
@@rowdyboys951 I'm not qualified to answer why player development takes longer, but I know that it does. Maybe it is because the basics are more technical? Don't know. But an MLB team could pay its entire minor league system a living wage for about 5 million a year. That's the cost of 1 pretty good MLB player. The minor leagues don't need to be profitable. They are necessary to field a top quality MLB team and the players who make that possible deserve a living wage. The vast majority of them will never reach the majors at all and they are spending their prime years making nothing and acquiring no marketable skills.

Important missing context for salaries is the revenues of MLB. If we want to discern whether the players were underpaid, we need to know their piece of the pie.

When all these players started growing GriZzly Adam's beards back about 10-12 years ago, it was so annoying. Anybody born after the Adams series in 1980 should not be wearing an Adams' beard.
