This deck is not a brush hog! It doesn’t have breakaway blades or a direct drive gearbox. It runs off B series’s belts and standard blades without a lift sail. If you go easy you can cut trees much larger than the 1/2” they are rated for. I’ve taken a bunch of stuff that’s in the 1.5” range with no trouble at all. The biggest thing I’ve found is to have the rear of the deck adjusted a touch higher than the front when cutting super thick tall grass or weeds because the materials can’t get out from under the deck otherwise and it simply bugs the engine down trying to recut the same material plus eat new material. You have to lift the deck over the pile of clippings to let it out so you can continue. Raising the rear a notch helps eliminate this .

The bevel on the blade goes on the top. You have them all bass ackwards now. This is from Ventrac.com: "Blades spin in opposite directions providing for the better discharge of material. Mower blades are sharp on both sides so they can be used on right or left-hand spindles, allowing for double blade life." You don't flip them. You rotate them from RH spindles to LH spindles.

Tough cut is great for opening up views and general clearing. But if you need passable/walkable trails or land go with a forestry mulcher. Otherwise you end up with 2" high stumps everywhere that need to decay or be excavated.

Couple of ideas....first after the pass through with the VenTrak give rakey bobby a go, get all those little "logs" in a single location then bring down that good ole wood chipper and make some mulch!! a finer "grind" than the VenTrak will give and after you're done there's nothing left to mess with other than the piles of scrap left over.

Try the Brown Tree Cutter it's a heavy duty Bush hog that can cut up to 6 inch trees and mulch it up plus a closer cut to the ground
@ArkansasPilgrim5 жыл бұрын
That's a cool machine! Watch out cutting stuff that's bigger than they recommend. That brush cutter looks like it operates like a finish mower, but obviously built tougher. But since it has solid blades, and not two-part blades like a bush hog, it'll beat up the spindles if you go after big stuff.

Josh what does that model of Ventrac cost ? Its awesome...
@bigcountry94575 жыл бұрын
My buddy bought one last year....paid $45,000. Got the gas motor machine, tough cut, finish mower, snow blower, front bucket/grapple and push blade. I think the said the machine itself was ~$23,000 for the gas and the diesel was ~$26,000. His opinion is that it's nothing more than a glorified lawn mower for mowing slopes....I concur and I would argue that given the situation it doesn't even do that very well. When you start getting close to 30degrees slope it starts to slide. We tried using it to finish cut the back of a dam that was measured at ~27degrees average. It mostly just kept sliding and getting stuck at the bottom. Had to go get the 40hp Massey with 6foot finish mower to finish the job which is what we normally use anyway. The tires suck also and have very little traction. However, it will sling the some snow, that's a fact. It's a really cool little machine but don't expect to do get much real work done with it, most things you can do with a real tractor much faster. The snow blower and broom attachments are absolutely AWESOME! Oh, the attachments are pricey as well.

Thank you kindly I will stick to my 245 Massey also.@@bigcountry9457

1:41 It is not a 3/4” fine thread .It is only a 1/2” fine thread bolt .They should be 5/8” , as the 1/2” break easily. You should keep a single 1/2” fine thread reverse thread bolt with you because no one is going to have it in stock if you break it. That ones for the reverse rotation blade. My tough cut is an absolute beast, it’s a very nice unit,it does have limitations but it is great for what it is.. I had to adjust my belt tension after about 8 cutting hours too.

Ventrac’s are great for certain things, but that’s a 35,000 dollar setup you’re riding around on there. Too much money for most when a compact tractor offers way more versatility.
@J.R.in_WV5 жыл бұрын
General Contrarian I agree the Ventrac (and Steiner) machines have several advantages over a standard compact tractor (say a 24 horse B series kubota), however in my experience in a small landscape company with a limited budget $25k for tractor with an actual front loader, a 540 Pto and full category 1 3 point hitch is a more sound decision than a $30k plus ventrac. If we did a lot of hillside mowing and tight quarters brush hogging I’d probably sing a different tune.
