During the Depression, workers were 'frozen' on the job. You had to get permission or be formally fired if you wanted to change jobs. While not strictly enforced, you could even be arrested for leaving a job. My grandfather had a hilarious story about this policy. Basically, he went to war with his boss, who refused to release him, and ended up dividing the whole town. Crazy times.

Autogyros are safer than helicopters, because they glide straight on the top rotor and you land rolling. You use the 'push' engine to start the top rotor spinning, but, then engage to the rear rotor and take off like a 'plane. sic: Little Nellie, James Bond: You only live twice. Considered a VSTOL airframe. [ very short take-off or landing ] Loving the chat, formal channels suck!

Donut Media, in your podcast, "Machines of Antarctica Pt.1 - Die Like Gentlemen," I think that you went a little hard on Ernest Shackleton. Everything you said was true for the most part, but you only explained one side of the guy. He was more than just a man willing to do anything for money, as the reading and researching of journals from his voyages (not to mention Endurance, though the book is decidedly biased) will tell you. He was as tough as nails, and survived conditions (sadly of his own doing) for several months out in the frozen Arctic waters, able to bring himself and his crew back to civilization with none dead. I really shouldn't care, but the guy is really not as bad as you make him out to be, and for a podcast that focuses on crazy and ridiculous achievements on the parts of many in history, I really think that you should stop trying to judge all books by their covers. It just isn't a good way to think, and I know that you've been proven wrong in your assumptions of both good and evil in your previous entries. P.S., I know that your podcast is meant to be lighthearted (for the most part), as well as interesting, and that you pick on historical figures for comedic effect. Not that this comment will affect anyone in any way, but please continue, and maybe try to dig deeper before ridicule if time allows, though most are deserving. -Lucas Lac124

Pilots messing with the locals!? Sounds like what they did in Quantico Va back in 96 when my father was in the marines! The pilots who flew the tank transports found it fun to fly those beast just a foot or two just over the tree line over housing at 5 in the morning every Saturday! Lol, it woke everyone up! I got use to it after a month but everyone else at my house didn't! Sometimes there would be a few of them doing this & I wondered if they where trying to see who could get the closest to the trees without damaging their planes! One actually hit the tops of the trees but it didn't look as if they damaged their plane! The trees however, lmao weren't that lucky!

so autogyros are actually really safe as far as aviation is concerned. the upper rotor is not powered and depends on airflow to rotate, sounds sketchy but its not. basically if youre moving and its rotating, youre flying. but they can typically handle higher winds than a similarly sized airplane, land and take off in much shorter distances at much lower speeds, and can still cruise pretty quick, as long as you dont need to haul anything they are actually kind of the ideal aircraft.

Smokey cheated, agreed, but that Chevelle PALES by comparison to Roger Penske's 1967 Matk Donahue-driven Trans Am Camaro. A car SO outlaw that after the 1967 Daytone race, Roger was told to NEVER bring anything so illegal to a race ever again..!! So what did he do..?? He built a legal 68 Camaro the next year, ran it through tech TWICE and got the SAME, 2200-pound outlaw 67 Camaro into the race. It was over 10 seconds a lap faster than the legal car. So, being the ever efficient seeker of that unfair advantage, he ran the illegal car TWICE in qualifying to get both cars into the race using a vinyl top to hide the acid-dipped body and numbers the could be changed from 15 to 16 with a single piece of tape, ol' Rog pulled off one of the greatest deceptions ever.... (up until he got Mercedes to build in-block cam, two valve V8s for his 1-2-3 Indy win later) It's the greatest racing story you've never heard before....😏

30:20 Wasn't that phrase also used as a refrain in a Talking Heads tune?
@eymanbaird58473 жыл бұрын
Following simple phrases indicate the meaning of the lights: WHITE on WHITE - “Check your height” (or “You’re gonna fly all night”) (too high) RED on WHITE - “You’re all right” RED on RED - “You’re dead” (too low) PAPI is not only a term in parenting; it is also a crucial instrument for landing an aircraft. PAPI stands for Precision Approach Path Indicator and is located at the beginning of a runway on one or both sides. However, as a passenger you most likely never notice them, as they are located, so that the flight crew notices them and gets the needed information up to a distance of 32 km. The function of PAPI lights is defined in the ICAO Annex 14.
