Ive heard alot of different versions of this story, but I must say, I commend the journalistic integrity, and the lack of bias towards americans in this story. Ive yet to watch Ford vs Ferarri because I feel like I will get upset with how everyone at ford is depicted to be heros when literally that wasnt the case. Well done boys. Also some feedback, it would be nice if you supplied pictures of particular vehicles and drivers when discussing specific ones. I knew 99% of both, however it might be more helpful for newer fans of racing and people who havent heard the story before
@jacehackworth64134 жыл бұрын
I’ve seen it and they defiantly exclude a lot of details but generally most Ford people are either depicted as being weasels or generally assholes most of the time. It’s really about Carol Shelby and Ken miles.

This series is one of the best things I’ve ever seen. I’m blown away! You’ll never see this comment but Thank You! Also. As a side note, James’ beginning opinion of Enzo is probably due to where he’s from. America- We always vilify the rest of the world. And he was whiny. But what should earn respect, is he LOVED the sport. His purity should shine. I never knew and now I have so much respect for him. Whiney as he may be his passion is evident. As a Ford guy its upsetting to see that the Duce bought the championship, there is no honor there. None whatsoever!

This was highly entertaining beyond ,expectations. One day at a friend's house in the 70's. Shooting bow and arrows at a make shift target. ...against a stockade fence. My arrow missed the target, Missed the back drop reinforcement, thru the fence!!! OMG!! My friend and I looked in horror! My arrow went into " The Old Man's" property" No man's Land every kid in the neighborhood for blocks ,knew " The Old Man" hated kids near his property it was a L shaped row of old 1920's Garages. The Old Man rented as storage units. Absolutely nothing ever went on there ,because the Old Man would call your parents ,he would call the cops, he would come after you. No kid went on the side walk of his property not even to ride their bike every kid crossed the street, then crossed the street back to continue down the street! " Now my arrow was in his yard! There was only one way out! " Climb the stockade, find my arrow and get back to safety without , The Old Man , finding me!"He always pressed charges to the fullest ,no exceptions. I told ,my friend David ,I'd grab my arrow and head home as my excape route. We said good bye and I climbed the stockade with the help of a thin tree,close enough to use for leverage up and......looked around, heart beating fast, listened....,( Nothing) I went over landed hard but I was in. I looked around there was my arrow, I ran grabbed it looked back at the stockade the smooth side gave me no way back! I looked at the long driveway. Could I run out with out capture? It's my only way out, no where to hide, I was in the open. I was about to bolt! And suddenly I heard the distinct , pinging of wrench's hitting the garage floor and bouncing.... What ever, made me stop, and turn toward the sound of wrench's fall, I will never know " but I had, to go find out !" I put my arrow behind my back , creeped up to the half open garage door, ( and old door with lead weights on a rope and pulley that assisted the big door to open And close. Small glass windows high up the door, only way to see, was to poke my head inside) I heard two guys discussing , the wrench and how to reach it as I peeked around the door not to be detected. I saw a fat wide tire, I saw a very very very low car with door open with the roof attached, to some of it. I stretched around, braver to get a full look, I saw exhaust tubes in a bundle on the ground, I saw one guy sitting on the other rear tire trying to reach the wrench , I saw the other guy saying " keep going you almost got it ... The other half of the door I was leaning around squeeked in an old groan, and they both looked in my direction And saw me ,I froze! " Hey, kid ...it's alright you can come in...." I said hi and then laid on the ground and with my arrow I swept the wrench out from under the very low very wide car. ( It was so different, I saw it as a Space Craft, not like any car I saw in the 60's or 70's, smaller lower than a Mustang a T-bird.....the motor was between the wheels and the Driver and passenger! " Thanks Kid" Yeah, I said...is the Old Man around???? Oh you mean the Land Lord no not today ...we rented this space out! Our car broke on the highway, this old race engine just gave out, we are going to pull it out and find another one to finish or trip. Ship this engine back to New York . " What kind of CAR is this??!" It's a Ford ! A Ford, ? Doesn't look like any Ford I've ever seen. " It's a race car from Ford from England...a Ford GT40." ...I ran home up the hill after school everyday that week changed into my ,play clothes and told mom I was going to David's house. I helped hold parts ,held wrench's,,bolts and brackets, and ASK a Million Questions.... Till the fifth day it was done, rumbling out the exhaust headers so loud EVERY NEIGHBORHOOD KID, on bike, skate board, girls with jump ropes and holla hoops ran across the street to see the very loud noise coming from the "Old Man's Garage, they stayed across the street cranning their necks around each other to see! What is THAT, wow look at THAT.... Vrap vah room room varap vroom. I bent over hands on my knees to see my new found space ship pilots inside the Ford GT40...thanks for all your help ! I said thanks for the soda pop ! Thinking of nothing else to come back with..... " Have a good trip!" " See you later, nice to meet you, I waved. They rolled into the street SLOW not to scrape the bottom of the ex racer ... Varoom varoom Chug chug chug down the road all we kids could see is the lowest car, the widest tires.. we all comingled in the street all eyes watching the very odd car , flat tail with tail lights , making every bit of noise into the distance.....hey what kind of car IS THAT ? they all stood waiting for the answer.... " That ! That s a FORD GT 40 from England a Racing Car! Wow..woo hoo a GT, the kids repeated and we all dispersed. I've spent my life with Sports Cars all my life since, I'm 67 and Ford Verses Ferrari has had special meaning ever since that day, and still...I'm restomoding 2 Datsun Z cars today....all because of my arrow going thru a fence.

Great story , dudes. I was just getting into cars and Ford racing in '65. I would eventually read about the tragic events and the way Ford 'engineered' the outcome of the '66 runniing of Le Mans and rob Ken Miles of a clear and well deserved 'ahead of the pack' victory. People should also show compassion and decency for Enzo, who sold far less cars than Ford, had far less money to work with than Ford, and built cars as a passion, by hand mostly, and not with a bottomless pit of money for support like Ford cars and teams had. If he seemed a little stuffy or not as nice as people expected, it was probably because he was frustrated by not having the financial backing to make his great cars better and more competitive. Ford was always my brand for racing as a kid, but soon I would learn why Italian cars were different, with small engines made to rev up higher because of overhead cams, using disc brakes for even most 'basic' cars, better controlled ride and handling, and way more fun to drive but unfortunately not durable and reliable enough for most people. Didn't matter to me or stop me from owning six Fiats, including in order of ownership: '77 131 and 81 Brava, both 2 dr dk blue 5 sp, '81 and '82 Strada, both 4 dr silver 5 sp, '74 128 wagon in pea soup green 4 sp, and the one I presently have, a '75 124 Sport Coupe in yellowwith 5 sp, wjich was always my favorite. I also have an "85 dark grey 944 N/A early 5 sp, and an '04 Pontiac Vibe GT with the 2zzge 8,200 rpm Toyota engine with 6 speed. All three have disc brakes on al 4 corners. If I had it my way, I would replace the Italian and German engines with this little gem of an engine. Peace to all!

I keep waiting to hear y'all mention Lamborghini in this series. It is always been one of my favorite facts. Remember any went to Ferrari after buying his first sports car he brought up issues with the clutch. As Lamborghini was known for his manufacturing of tractors Enzo Ferrari told him something along the lines of 'you are just a farmer, you should just consider yourself lucky to be driving one of my beautiful cars rather than bringing me complaints' thus the idea for Lamborghini cars were born from pure spite as a way to take Ferrari down from his high horse!

I remember when the Lola GT first appeared as a drawing. beautiful thing as a concept. Eric Broadley didn't have the money to make it. Somehow Ford spotted it and snapped it up. But didn't have the house expertise to make it work. I never quite figured why they threw the iron 427 into it. You'd have thought they could have made an aluminum one at least. The thing in favor of it was that it had been very well developed for reliability at the time. Never mind that the Chrysler Hemi had shown up and was dominating NASCAR at the time---. Nader. What an ignoramous. But, as often found in lawyers, one to whom the ignorant masses listened. He focused mostly on the Corvair when several foreign cars at the time, notably the VW Beetle as well as Renault and FIAT models, were arguably less safe than the Corvair. 1966 was far from the first time that Federal regulations had been applied to cars. One of the perversions of that was that when seat belts were first required Volvos being imported were required to have their shoulder belts removed with a razor on the docks because they weren't "seat belts". No Ferrari rivalry as big since the 30s? Perhaps you've forgotten 1954-55 when Mercedes once again absolutely dominated both F1 and sports cars. And of course the most dangerous/deadly LeMans was 1955---. Of course what they should have done was let Miles pass the other two cars and finish next to them, but one lap ahead. But the whole thing is the French a usual.
