Totally love the approach of the gap list, for those on a budget I tend to thrift instead of buying new - it's amazing the great quality pieces people are getting rid of, especially things like jeans, coats, trousers etc - I only buy new for things like white t-shirts, underwear, socks etc... the hunt is the dopamine hit as you say! ❤ (Just don't bring home a load of impulse thrift home with you 😂)

I agree, we have St. Vincent DePaul shops in the most upscale parts of my city. You can’t imagine the bargains I have gotten! Too long to list 🥰 but it saves me money to splurge on new high quality items. I always get compliments on my clothes and style💕🩷

It is the problem solving aspect of shopping and browsing that I love. I've been able to divert some of that energy into helping friends with their shopping while being careful not to end up buying things for myself. We always have a list, and if I see something I fancy, I make myself wait until I am home to see if I am still thinking about and want the item.

Haha I know right, sooooo hard to resist thrifting hauls :-)

Yes, that is another great trick!!

I found out that if I put things in the cart and leave them there until the next day or whenever, I don't buy them. I like what you said also about taking time and sometimes a lot of time, to shop for the piece that you are looking for. It seems I'm always over my budget. I then started to put the clothing items I actually buy on a monthly list on my phone. I analyze my purchases and that has helped me a lot to go back and ask myself if I'd buy them again or define good buys vs. not so good buys. It's a work in progress but it's teaching me also.

I love that! I do a similar thing, take note of things I actually didn’t end up wearing and why that may be so I don’t duplicate the mistake

Emily, you were reading my mind! This is the topic that I have been thinking of lately. Some websites I simply delete so that I won't be tempted to look at them. Others, I do just as you. Then I sit there and think about whether I really need a particular piece or is it just an impulse buy. 99% of the time I delete them and don't purchase anything. Now that I have my capsule wardrobe, I have to think, "will the item really bring me joy? Will I wear it for years to come?" Even, "do I have too many clothes already?". I did notice that we are wearing the same cardigan today though, lol. It is fun to look, but it requires self-control!

Hi Emily I love browsing online and filling up the shopping cart without actually buying anything. My budget is limited so I get inspiration from your channel and online then try to find similar pieces at vintage or thrift stores. Thank you for another interesting video. 😊

Personally I have to touch the fabric before I buy, it has to feel just right, it is definitely my pet peeve and also I have to try things on before I purchase it! I dislike returning items, I find it a pain to repackage and pay for shipping! So the whole shopping experience is more for me than online shopping! But I have done some online shopping, only after I have tried it out in a store! Thank you for sharing Emily, I enjoy your videos! Have a great week from Canada! 🤗👍

Best vid of yours I've seen. The relaxed tone and well paced verbage helps with "information digestion". Conceptually, the last two (P & P method), and this "slow burn" vid, are great content for your upcoming book? There are a lot of shrill voices, and endless quip-style communicators --- stay with this vibe, so easy to listen to and makes me want more.

"...sitting on your couch, eating ice cream and watching Escape to the Country" is my happy place ❤ My husband and I dream of retiring to the UK or England. I am an impulse buyer, so I am inspired to set a monthly budget for myself - maybe I'll save enough to escape to the country? 🙂

hi Emily- enjoying your vids and ideas...maybe u could address an issue I have - I am pretty much into casual capsule type clothing however- I also like so many different types of activities that my closet is growing too much..how to cut back? yoga, hiking, travel ,vacations on yoga retreat require not just yoga clothes but sometimes summer dresses etc,,,which I have none. of - .not a dresses fan but I feel like I should dress up a bit..I really want to have a minimal closet as it makes life easier...thanks ! Maybe this would be a future video for you?

You are totally right about the thrill of putting the items in cart lol. Especially shoes 😂 I am really thinking them over. For clothes , I’ve been thrifting and if I find a gem that’s not for me, I resell . It’s working, I can make money to actually buy what’s on my wishlist. And it turned out to be my second income.. very risky though to control my dopamine rush, I’m aware 👀
@EmilyWheatley12 күн бұрын
Yes, that’s a great approach too! I do something similar, especially with luxury pieces

Online shopping is too convenient!! I do find creating a cart is satisfying in itself and also find I’m disinterested in most of the items when I return to it.
