Were I to make a comparison, I’d go with the Peloponnesian War. Athens, much like Mon-Cala, treated Sparta like a bunch of savages and refused to give them their due following a previous war, starving them of money and keeping it to themselves. In response, Sparta teamed up with Persia (enemies of Greece at the time and the guys they fought against before) to get back at them.

What better way to end a pointless conflict than to do an Independence Day/Supreme Commander: Forged Alliance by introducing the all too necessary Galactic Empire. Really nice, seeing the Quarren and Mon Calamari fight together and with little backstabs and pettiness by the time the Galactic Civil War onwards happened.
