I understand Iva's impulse to consume content that's not just for the level you are at. I have to do the beginner childlike stuff and I do like it, but I also need to look at content that is by definition too difficult for my level. I get antsy if I don't, my brain needs to stretch and look far beyond the horizon 😄. Sometimes learning about a difficult grammar point or reading an article or translating song lyrics, and not giving up until you've understood to the best of your ability, is what you need to keep yourself motivated.

It’s a good approach. I think interaction in general is beneficial even though some interactions are more directly beneficial to your colloquial comprehension.

I would really like to recommend that you keep watching content (like this video) that might be above your level, but more interesting! For some reason, teachers will often say it's bad to depend on Chinese and/or English subtitles to understand something. But I think this isn't bad at all. It will allow you to consume way more content than you otherwise would, and you will get a great feel for the language. People keep talking about how you should only consume 'comprehensible input', but even if you only understand 5% of what is going on in the video without subtitles, it will still contain huge chunks you do understand, even subconsciously. And if you can use the Chinese subtitles to get to 10%, that will help you hear more of the words that you might know, but are too fast to catch when you are just listening. The subtitles can be an extremely useful bridge! Also, think of how emotion affects the intonation in sentences, or how and when people show their agreement through mumbling '嗯' or '對對對‘。Learning this is useful in itself, even if you don't understand any part of the content! Finally, nowadays kids learn languages simply by watching content in English. They might be dependent on context cues or subtitles at first, but 自然而然 they will start to absorb more and more, and learn the language almost unconsciously. Why wouldn't that work for adults?

Your videos are so helpful, thank you. But I was especially grateful to have this one show up on my feed because I’ve recently gotten to a point with my Mandarin study where I became frustrated and overwhelmed but this video gave me a pep talk and some new study ideas that I needed. I feel encouraged again, thank you (btw 我学习了中文一年三个月）

1:44 Hi, can someone please explain this structure? Where she uses 一个。。。一份工作 She says: 中文导游也是一个很好在考虑中的这么一份工作。 Why isn't it like this? 中文导游也是一份很好在考虑中的工作。 I noticed her use structures like that a lot in her longer interview. I hadn't seen this before. It's so hard to wrap my head around.
