My Great Grandmother was a Residential school survivor. She moved away from her reserve (Golden Lake, On) to a small town to have children and she did not register to save them from having to go to "that school.' She died in 1942 and my Grandmother and her siblings were never registered until the 80's, long after their mother had passed. They knew nothing of who they were or where they came from.

It's heartbreaking to think about the history of the Indigenous peoples and the injustices they faced. What do you think could have been done differently to prevent such tragedies? Do you believe history has taught us enough to avoid repeating these mistakes?

Disgusting and shameful part of our history. My heart aches whenever I am reminded of this tragedy.

It’s interesting how Epictetus encourages appearing clueless or stupid in discussions, which might sound counterintuitive at first. This approach can create space to absorb and process information without immediately reacting, which often leads to more thoughtful responses. Have you ever tried taking a moment of silence in a heated conversation to reflect before responding? What do you think might change in a discussion if we allowed ourselves to do this more often?

Just to note: this film is titled “We Were Children”. It was released in 2012 by the National Film Board of Canada. It was directed by Tim Wolochatiuk.

I would like to of been told about the conditions these Inuit children lived in, in those days those Catholic nun's are evil though

As a Catholic, I'm devastated to learn that Church orders were involved with this sinful enterprise that caused so much hurt and death. How they failed to follow the churches teachings of Love your Neighbour as yourself in respecting the cultural traditions of others that were not sinful. Of making respecting the fact each child had a mother and a father to raise them as planned by God. By the Grace of God I echo His Holiness Pope Francis in saying I'm deeply sorry for the pain and suffering caused in Christs name. And that these schools should not have happened. And it has taken so long for the church to acknowledge these sins that were committed.

I’m so proud to see that even after all they endured they kept hold of who they truly are. I’m sure many just gave in. I sure I wouldn’t have been so strong.

It's happening still today in the schools with WOKE ideas. Instead of teaching them math, science. they are pushing trans and other communistic ideas into the children. It's the same thing.

I don't think there could ever be be enough said or done or paid to replace all loss the pain the broken family's thr loss of generations. So sorry 🙏

How the Christians were so Christian then..and we criticise Islam.
@ltmg983222 күн бұрын
These people weaponised their own ideology with Christianity for their aim to assimilate and control the masses of people. That is not what the real Christianity is. Islam is completely different. It has no place for the Western world.
