In this video, I show you how to install an automatic transmission in a 2003 Honda Civic EX. This process is very similar for 2001-2005 Honda Civic LX, DX, EX, VP. This is the 7th Gen civic equipped with the D17A1 and D17A2 engines.

Hey man, I just wanted to thank you for making these videos. You helped someone who did nothing but spark plugs and oil changes do a transmission replacement. The car is on the road and shifts smooth as butter. Longest part was finding a decent transmission for a decent price. Managed to find one for $675 with 160k miles on it. So lets hope to get another 100k out of her, and perhaps avoiding Jiffy Lube will make the thing last a bit longer this time. Still got a few kinks to sort out, such as the gear shifter sort of "Gliding" into place and not clicking like it should. But other than that, every bolt and nut seems to have found a home. Thanks man, I appreciate you and I'm sure I speak for most

Your video/tutorial are excellent! Thank you very much for your time you put into making these videos. I follow your removal video to the tee and it definitely made the job easier. I do have one question prior to the install. When I placed the torque converter onto the shaft and seated it into position the back of the torque converter touches/strikes the back of the housing roughly round the 4 o'clock position about the size of a dime area - hand spinning. Is this something to be concern about or will it go away once the torque converter is attached to the flex plate for correct spacing? Thank you for any input you can provide.

Hello, I'm doing a transmission swap on my 2005 Honda civic and your videos have helped me out a ton! I was just wondering, how many quarts total did it take to fill up the trans? I'm looking online some people are saying 4 but some are saying 6?
@hondaresource
@hondaresource 4 жыл бұрын
It really depends on how much is in the transmission already. A typical drain and refill is about 3.5 qts, but that isn't all the fluid in the trans. If some more fluid comes out during removal/installation it could take more. I would remove the drain plug once transmission is installed to make sure it's "drained" then install 3.5 qts and continue to fill from there as needed until you reach the full mark on the dipstick.

Never flush a Honda transmission, always do a drain and refill. I would definitely recommend going ahead and doing a drain refill. typically if the converter is new, I put some in it. In this case it was used. Just start the car run through the gears as shown in the video. Trans pump will fill the converter if its not full.

how much space should be between the converter and flexplate? couldve sworn i got the converter in all the way but they seem a little close. when first installing the TC bolts the flex plate and converter were bound together. not wanting to pull the trans apart i spun the crank while tapping the converter down with a dead blow and pry bar. after that flex plate spun on its own but still seemed a little close. after install crank/converter spins freely with no binding. this is on a 99 civic btw

How many quarts of fluid after i swapped the transmission
@hondaresource
@hondaresource 2 жыл бұрын
A drain and fill is typically 3.5 quarts but if some got spilled out of the torque converter while it was apart, it may take more. Also it may take less if the fluid wasn't draining.

In need of help so the old transmission that I had was working until the second test drive however it made a loud sound. Then while it was in drive it acted as if it was in neutral when ever you accelerate it was revving. So I put it in park it had made a noise and back into drive it made that noise. However not in reverse did it make that sound only in park to drive. That was after a new motor was installed. So I bought a new transmission and it’s making the same sound as the previous one please help
