How To: 2021 Chevy Silverado 2500HD Tailgate Switch Repair

GM Part Number was 84758465 but has been replaced with 85626239
The button on the tailgate stopped working so I decided to check it out on my Chevrolet. Follow along as I remove and repair the switch. Eventually I will replace it with a replacement switch but for now it works.

Have a 2024 2500hd pickup, removed tailgate to mount camper, Chevrolet ran a data circuit threw tailgate connecting Blind Side Monitors/Rear Cross Traffic warning systems from one side of truck to the other, so I will need to figure out how to wire that data circuit to make it work when tailgate is removed! Good to see the inside of the tailgate on your video

How does everything work with just tailgate removed? is it something that just throws a code on the dash or what?

@@pugmalley With my tailgate removed, the blind spot monitor/Rear cross traffic warning system are disabled. No codes are shown on the dash, its like those options don't exist. My truck is the LT.

Thats great! I love my 21 and that switch is the first real issue with it and pretty minor. New switch is only about $20. Thanks for watching!

Tried scanning @ 4:17, for kicks... no go. Card blocked it at the end as well, LOL ! Should leave the repaired one in to see how long it would last 👍 Best days to you and crew !

Lol wellllll...I haven't ordered a new one yet. Pretty sure I will order one soon (before the price goes up or they go out of stock) but it will probably just go in the glovebox until this one breaks again :)

Was wondering how to do that. Mine randomly activates.click click click. Tonno cover stops it from dropping. I think just started doing it.21 tho miles 2022 2500 custom.

Excellent! What are your thoughts on the pointless little pair of holes right above that switch in the tailgate hand hold? I along with plenty others siliconed them closed right away. Can you see any reason for them? Seems like a terrible design.

@@MidnightRoadGarage there are two holes located at the top of the tailgate handhold which allow water to drain down into the tailgate. Water and electronics never mix well. I’d rather have that handhold fill with water which doesn’t happen often and falls right out when you open the tailgate vs having water drain into the tailgate

I haven't bought one yet because my temporary fix is still working fine but they are about $20. Google "gm part number 85626239" and you'll find a bunch of places selling it.

Same problem on a 22 with 30k miles. First it opened a few times by itself and dropped on the trailer tounge jack and quit working right after smh lol

Lol well it's still working but I think I'm going to order a new switch soon anyways.
