2022 Silverado MultiFlex or Sierra MultiPro Tailgate Wont Open - Hack to fix

UPDATE: 5/3/22...Just got some new information from a GM rep in training today that many dealers/customers are experiencing issues with the 2022+ Mult-Flex / Multi-Pro upper portion tailgate locking feature NOT working when in fact it should work and it even shows you this method in the owners manual. SO if this method works for you then great but if it does not...I would wait it out and see if they can resolve the issue soon or possibly look into the Curt no-splice Multi-Flex / Multi-Pro Tailgate Sensor Kit instead.
Essentially if you have a 2022+ Silverado/Sierra with push-button start (WILL NOT WORK NO MATTER WHAT ON TRUCKS WITH TURN KEYS) then you should be able to follow my video and be able to lock and unlock the upper portion of your flex/pro tailgate.
PLEASE COMMENT if this WORKS or does NOT work for you and let me know what year, make, model and trim level your truck is to see what kind of info we can get on success/fail rates.

HOW TO FIX YOUR 2022 MULTIFLEX TAILGATE HACK! This video shows you how to lock and unlock the top portion of your 2022 Silverado MultiFlex or 2022 Sierra MultiPro tailgate. If the top portion will not drop down when you press this button watch the video on how to UNLOCK it! If you don't want your top portion to fold down and hit your receiver hitch watch how to LOCK it and prevent that! AS OF NOW THIS ONLY APPLIES TO 2022'S.

@@Carterchevroletok the dude in the video said to leave the button pushed for 5 seconds. That was the ticket. I would hold it in for about 3 seconds (until the lights flashed). Maybe the extra few seconds were the trick for my situation

2023 Denali 3500HD. Top gate locked, Neither 3 nor 5 second method work to unlock it... not sure if its a dead relay, will have to take it into the dealership for this, what an inconvenience.

@@foonus406 yeah totally stinks. My upper tailgate “seems” to be fine but I’ve had on and off problems with the electric side steps working. Thankfully still under warranty and will get truck in for this hassle

I live in Northern California in the Sierra Nevada Mountains and right now we have a Lotta snow the neighbor needed gas for his generator so I drove him down and unlocked the tailgate it came down we filled up his gas cans and went in front of his home and the tailgate would not come down no matter what I did pushing the buttons even using the release button in the cab by the way I have a 2022 GMC Sierra after some time I was able to get in the truck started and I hit the tailgate release and it went down. I've never had this trouble with it before.

I’m unable to lock-out the top portion of my tailgate. 2024 Silverado 2500 custom. Dealer had it for a week and they were unable to find a fix.

This only works for the 2022 models. Hopefully GM comes out with a fix/update for the 2021's.

HMM thanks for the input! We do not have a 22 Custom 1500 with the Multiflex to test out but when we do I will be checking it out. It could be higher trim trucks only but I hope that is not the case

@@Carterchevroletok It looks like it's only the trucks with the passive keyless remote and push button start. I think it has to have passive keyless to work.

@@gearheadjeff That would make sense because the tailgate has to recognize a key is near it for it to work and a turn-key would not be capable of doing that. Thanks for the good info!

😂 In the time it takes you fiddle with buttons, waiting for lights to flash I can open my tailgate 3-4 times. And didnt have to spend 70+k to do it. Love how they designed it to open and get dented if you happen to use your truck to pull a trailer. Way to go GM "engineers". Maybe they need to add a receiver hitch that uses a bunch of hydraulics, over air, over computer driven electronics to do it. What a mess. 😂🤣😂🤣

Or it is broke. Second time on my sierra it’s broke this time out of warranty and it’s 300 bucks . 2 year old denali 3500 with 38k. Should be a recall. Multiple friends have had theirs break. Tailgates have come down while towing damaging tailgates and coming down while on highway. Buy a ford
