How to 3D PRINT TEXT - 3 Ways to Generate 3D Printable Text and Logos

In this video, I show you three ways you can generate 3D printable text.
Method 1, the quick and easy drag and drop into Cura. Great, but has some limitations.

Method 2, whip up some text in TinkerCAD. I love TinkerCAD, but this option is only really good for basic text, nothing too elaborate.

Method 3, take an existing image, convert it to a vector and then make that vector 3D printable. This method takes a bit longer, but you can also use it for logos.

I also use Fusion360, but this is a more involved process, so out of the scope of this quick video. If you'd like to see my process in Fusion360, let me know in the comments down below.

It's always good to know how to add text to a model…but you gave us *three* ways! Thanks for the tips, I don't use Cura as much so it was too to see some of these options.

Could you share the stl export parameters and slicing details for the gcode creation? I created a model with text in solidworks and I am having difficultly getting smooth edges on my lettering... The "s" and "O" print faceted, I can't get smooth lettering... Thanks!

What if we want them to be islands? Will it still print ok? Also can you resize in Cura so it is more accurate to the dimensions you’re aiming for?

You can print as islands, but obviously they will not remain attached to the main body of the print once everything is removed from the build plate, so would need something to keep everything together.

Sounds like you’ve not got your first layer height set correctly. I’ve done a video on how to level your bed and get the first layer perfect. Might be worth a watch:)

How do i make the Text Below the Surface of the Board? as if it was Carved into it, with the Text having a Depth instead of Popping out? i'd really appreciate your help man, or if you could direct me into another Video that shows that Process that would be Amazing

You can use the hole function in TinkerCAD rather than merge shown here and that will allow you to create the debossed text you’re after

It is too bad that this video did not just show a complete process. For example take a file from thingiverse, import into Cura, then show how a name could be added to the thingiverse object then print the object and we see the name on it. That would have ben really helpful. I would love to see a cat for example from a file taken from thingiverse etc, printed with an added name on it.
