My engine routinely hit 235 EOT then the electromechanical fan would finally kick on, and bring it down to 200-ish. Then the fan would disengage and the EOT would go right back up. All that heat and temperature flocculation is hell on an engine. I've had two tuners try to fix it, it never worked. Finally, like you the fan cut the wires, and that was it for me. So I bought the viscous coupler clutch and it is so much better. I haven't seen EOTs over 200 in the 1000 miles I've been running it.

This is a very good upgrade for our 6.0 Powerstrokes. Great job, truck looks awesome too.

Thanks for the video, will be doing this on my truck soon. I know most people dont care about soft codes but theres gotta be a way to trick PCM to think fan clutch is hooked up. Maybe a jumper wire across 2 of the pins or a resister between them?

Permanent connection to the fan robs power when not needed. Some mods are counter intuitive like running the exhaust in front of the cab.

And idea... if the 7.3 conversion puts the fan in the same place as the 6.0 electric??? Any chance it is closer to the engine?

I sanded the fan pulley with 60 grit. Keeps the belt from slipping when the fan clutch fully engages.

could’ve went to fully electric fans so there’s no need for a fan clutch at all. looks badass and you regain a little more hp/tq/mpg back

Hey, this is a great video. I did the mod when I bulletproofed my 6.0. I do notice that if the outside temp is above 85 degrees, the fan roars all of the time. Do you notice that too? Im wondering if my manual fan clutch is bad?

Make sure that you put a cap over the old wiring harness connector on the truck side. Or if the wires were destroyed, make sure to snip all the ends clean and wrap the ends very thick with electrical tape. If those fan wires short, it can cause PCM problems, and sometimes a no-crank!

What do you do with the plug ? Do you leave the plug open ?

What about an engine code because you have nothing plugged in what’s going on with that any codes

I hate the 7.3 fan clutch mod. The fan is always running loud, even when it's cold out.
