It’s to bad these Toyota radios don’t last. When I was a kid we used to get the radios out of old Buicks and Oldsmobile Fords or whatever they used to put along the river bank to help with erosion. Some of them were even 6 volt radios. Then we would hook them to a speaker and a battery and have music in the garage. We’re talking sixty years ago. But I changed my Tacoma radio with one I got from the auto parts store. It works great. And they are pretty easy to do. Did the wiring in the house and just plugged it in when I got to the truck.

The factory radio in my old Tacoma stopped working a few months ago. So, I found a nice, used factory radio on Ebay and bought it. Your video was very helpful in me changing out the radio with no issues. Just wanted to say thank you!! Note when buying an used factory radio, you will most likely need the two mounting brackets from your old stereo for the replacement stereo. Couple of screws hold the bracket to the radio.

This video was of great help! If anyone (like myself) is replacing the original radio/CD player with a refurbished one (to keep things original) take note of the model # on the front, lower left of the radio. There are two different radios for the Tacoma, depending upon whether or not it had the JBL sound system, so you need to pick your replacement wisely! Hopefully that helps someone out!!!

Simple straight forward explanation, will now tackle my 01 radio replacement. Thanks for the video. Update: replaced factory radio last week with aftermarket alpine with din insert. Again thanks, your video was very helpful, piece of cake to upgrade......

Excellent tutorial that I have returned to more than once! I have a 2000 tacoma that's still going strong and hope to keep going the next 5 years at least! Do you have a recommendation for a small accessory tap point for a thermometer I'm trying to hook up? I found a great spot right by the throttle cable through the firewall with its own grommet (thanks to another video) and still needed a 12 volt source that is on when accessory switch is on. I was hoping for something near the radio wiring for the actual thermistor to get to the front engine area, and anticipated some trouble tapping off the actual radio power, mainly from not having a wiring diagram for the aftermarket Sony radio installed, but maybe that's my best bet if the internet will help me. Cheers!

Thanks, Broham, I need to remove center panel and take a look into the air vents, sounds like skwirl or something is in there and the air seems restricted on the right side middle vent.

Mice 🐁. Get a mouse blocker. And wire it to your battery. They work. Have one in my wife’s Tacoma and one in my Tacoma and no more mouse 🐁 tirds under the hood. 😀

Does the radio?stereo have a fuse in the back? anyone now? my radio went out i get no sound. I checked the fuses in for the accesories in the engine compartment and inside the cabin all fuses are good. Thank you

I have a '98 Tacoma, the radio stopped working (I think a rodent might have chewed a wire because it stopped working overnight), this is a great video and I feel confident to go forward and remove it because of your video. Just one question, what is the unit you're replacing the old radio with?
@4DIYers8 ай бұрын
Thank you! It's a Pumpkin head unit with an Android interface.

I need to find which fuse is for the radio before I go this deep in my dash. Your video was very well made and I am sure I will find it helpful unfortunately.
@susanmandeville6932 жыл бұрын
I figured out one of the fuses but you need a fuse puller and that is over my head! There might be a fuse under the hood, too.

It's a safety precaution and should always be done when working with electronics. Sometimes you can risk damaging a circuit.

Do you have a link for the 2 clips used to secure the center lower finish trim (with the 2 12v charging ports)? Mine are missing as well and can't find the dark gray ones that match the interior but black should be fine
@4DIYers3 жыл бұрын
I just have a kit of random clips, something like this amzn.to/3tGSJr7 Whenever I run into missing or broken clips, I just replace them. The proper clips come from the Toyota dealer but I'm guessing they'll be a few dollars each.

Push the middle in, then pop the out piece outwards. They usually break, no matter what you do 😂
