Brother you are a absolute angel to me rn. I had a temp gauge go out on my 2003 a year and a half ago and I was gonna have a shop do it and they quoted me a ridiculous amount and said my gauge was bad! I followed all your steps and did everything myself and my entire dash is fixed thanks to you! Thank you so much for this amazing video!!

Replaced the temperature sender using your other video. Didn't fix the issue. Was hesitant to do this, but was super easy with your steps. Helped the issue and now my gauge works. Big relief, have to know my temp at 320k miles.Thank you brother!

Not only is this a great video and very detailed, but because of this video my problem was solved. Temp gauge started dropping randomly and if i tapped on the dash it would come back. Untill that stopped working. Once I took the dash cluster out I found one of those small nuts behind the gauge had completly come off. Screwed it back on and sure enough, my gauge is working again. Thank you!

Thank you. Unfortunately there isn't much that can be done. Threadlocker may interrupt the connection and it's too delicate to stack the threads. If anything, maybe it wasn't tightened enough from factory.

Thank you so much! The white faces where stock on this truck. I would imagine there is probably some aftermarket support for the early model first gen Tacomas.

you can do it! I just did it on my 98 since its electrical and not manual like in the 95-97 you can do the swap and all of the gauges work.

Much thanks bro. I did mine today. Replace light on the cluster. Your instructions were very helpful. By the way the light for the ac control are different from the lights for the cluster. They are very small. Do you know the name of those tiny bulbs?

Hi there I have a question. I took my 2006 Sequoia cluster out to replace the 4LO light, realized it was all tiny LED's, and figured I could live with it. I must've knocked the speedometer dial because now it's all whacked. It hovers at speeds that aren't accurate, and does not settle back to zero when I stop. Basically it's got a mind of its own. Is there any type of procedure I can do to reset this thing? All the other gauges perform normally. Thanks in advance, I have scoured youtube and the forums to no avail.

My problem is my temp gauge goes up to 3/4 all the time. After start up in about 3-4min. I wonder if I need a new gauge. I check with obd2 scanner and scanner read temp at 180-185. So it ain’t over heating. 🤔

I'm at the part where 04 screws are removed from the cluster panel itself and I'm ready to free it from the vehicle... but it feels like I have things plugged in on both sides not just the passenger side, and there is no slack... what do I do?

Try gently wiggling it from side to side. As far as I know, 04 is the same as 01.

I have a question about gauge clusters! Perhaps you might know. I did not realize this until I recently bought a used 2002 Sienna, but I guess some cars come with a gauge cluster that does not have the RPM Tachometer from the factory (as an optional thing). This is the case for this 2002 Sienna. I've seen a used OEM gauge cluster with a tachometer for sale and wondered if I could replace mine with it. Is the mileage of the vehicle simply stored in the vehicle's ECU and that data from the ECU gets transferred to the mileage gauge display? Or is the mileage data stored in the gauge cluster's electronic board and the ECU has no involvement in that display? I would not want to replace the gauge display to have a tachometer if it meant inheriting some other vehicle's mileage.

@flinch622 4 жыл бұрын
I think you are in luck. When you hook up an OBD tool on a vehicle with no tachometer in the dash, note that you do in fact have RPM functionality within/monitored by the ECS. So it's all about the harness then - tach/non-tach clusters use the exact same connectors [most vehicles], and your Sienna likely has an existing input awaiting a gauge as long as that was an OEM option for that year. I'm in the same boat as you [except I'm not driving a Sienna] but haven't tackled the project yet so all I can recommend is reviewing the manuals before throwing money at parts. Start with factory manual [volume 2 has the non-engine bits] and refer to Body Electrical section [BE-40 through BE-42 for a 1995 tacoma]. They call the tach trigger an "igniter" for some reason - that's the input you need to drive the meter. i also found the wiring diagram book helpful [publication EWD 231U for the 1995 Tacoma]. Technical writing might have connector labeling not in agreement [A, B, C, etc] between books - don't worry about that, just make corrections based on what you find is true for the cluster: it worked as shipped so markup any drawings that need it. In most cases, I go with number of pins as an early indicator of what is right: that much follows design engineering or it wouldn't have shipped in the first place. Publications get labeling confused between what the tech sees building a cluster [left to right] and forget to mirror labeling on drawings more often than they care to admit when doing technical writing. I'm very happy to have found this video, because it covers my current situation perfectly: temp gauge is generally off, and gas gauge jumps around from time to time - my local dealership doesn't handle electrical problems worth beans, but that's another story. And... I notice something very interesting at 6:10 showing the meter movement connections had no star washers between nuts and flat washers to prevent vibration or thermal events from loosening nuts over time. Gotta fix that.

So what was your actual problem with your temp gauge? I just bought a 04 tacoma and I noticed that my gauge always reads in the middle, even when cold starting. Key out it needle drops, key in and turned needle jumps up to the middle.

I need some help. Have a 2003 Tacoma.low beams are dim. Gage cluster is dark now. Dimmer wouldn't affect low beams. After market low beams won't even come on now. I have had some water getting in behind the firewall and in front of dashboard. I rhink I've got thay pinned down.
@4DIYers
@4DIYers Жыл бұрын
Sounds like it could be a wiring issue. Although a quick check would be switching back to factory involves if the aftermarket versions are causing a problem. The dim headlights can also be caused by a bad ground. You’ll need to use a multimeter, start at your headlights and work your way back.

@@4DIYers Okay. Thank You. I do have a DMM and will begin tracing wiring back. When I said aftermarket low beams, I misspoke. I meant fog lamps mounted on billy bar. I'm also thinking it could be connector corrosion.
