I have found that the best money changer rates are at the Manila Airport. If you are on vacation and are flying through Manila, just change all of the money you might need to pesos there, and you are done. The exchange rates at other airports (i.e. Cebu) are predatory.

Excellent video Jennifer. People must know these things. I send money to my wife's BDO account ahead of time. But we both carry cash (crisp new $100 bills), under the $10,000.00 limit of course. And exchange as we need the peso. So far so good in all our trips. I use credit cards for airlines, hotels and sometimes malls (big purchases).

Thank you Jennifer. We also always transfer to ourselves in remitly. This is the least complicated way to get cash. The money changer in the province is really bagal. I had to fill out a form where I should put my adresse and all my details from abroad, even my profession. Then we had to list down each banknote and write down the number which is printed on it, hanako only in philippines! 😂

I’ve been using my Charles Schwab card in the Philippines, in different cities and places, with no issues. And I never had an ATM machine here take my card. Plus end of the month all those ATM fees that you were charged for get reimbursed 😉 One thing to note; my Charles Schwab card has never worked when using a BDO ATM. Don’t know why? Lastly, Philippine ATMs will ask if you want to use their conversion rate-hit NO and you’ll still get your money. It’s another junk fee they trying to get.

Hi Jennifer, another informative video. I have heard a lot about short haul flights being moved from NAIA to Clark. I believe this is all turboprop aircraft to small islands. If you are able to provide us with any information on this it would be a great help for anyone expecting to arrive in Manila and wanting to fly out to an island. Looks like they could be faced with having first to transfer to Clark.

If an ATM in Phils takes your card, You are in a world of trouble. I wont go into my experiences in detail, but take it from me the bank of the atm that took your card, will do almost nothing to help you. they will lie to you and delay helping you, and in the end mostly you will not get your card back. Also you said that "a US phone would be receiving codes in the Philippines". DO NOT rely on that whatever you do. I have been in towns where your phone(even on roam) will receive a code 2 days later!

Open a brokerage account with Charles Schwab and use that ATM DEBIT CARD to make withdrawals. BDO does not accept Charles Schwab. It is accepted by China Bank. It the best way to go about having cash in the Philippines. All fees will be reimbursed by Charles Schwab. I should know because it’s what I do when traveling.

When an ATM eats your card, you should report it to your bank immediately to have it blocked or marked as lost. Money lost: 0 Some banking apps even allow you to do this without making a call. But how often does an ATM actually eats a card? I think it it is rare. Thats why its also advisable to have more than 1 card.

@@JenniferTerri i spoke from experience. I have NEVER recieved a card back after it being retained by an atm. My best advice is only trust the atm if it is situated in the front of a walk in bank of the same name eg: BPI

Husband’s experience - 46 years ago. Peso was 7 to $1. U.S. we arrived and mother- in- law would walk around looking for a money changer. This guy would show up with stacks of money in his belt around his stomach, this guy, wife and her mother would go into a side room. It all seemed kind of sneaky.

My understanding was GCash app was used everywhere, is this not true? A typical transfer would be from your US bank into WISE account, then transfer from there to GCash or you use WISE to pay to accounts for rent, water, electric etc.

Good Video Jennifer 😊. Here is my 2 cents. Western Union blocked 🚫 me for sending money to many times in a month. Remitly did the same thing. World Remit wanted my banking information and that is a deal breaker for me. And I had been using them for years. I help 6 different families 👪 in the Philippines 🇵🇭. I now use RIA and PayPal for the last past 2 months. Keep the video's comin. Stay Safe 💕 🙏 🙏

if i use world remit per example, how much can i send myself without having issues? i assume if i send myself 10 000$ or even 5 000$, the teller might say its too much for them etc.... better go with something smaller like 2 000$ or 3 000$??

The best option to exchange money is BDO and give your flippina the bills, since you need a accouint. The rate for exchange is almost perfect NO FEES. World remit is the next best. Send to a bank account to your flippina, and then withdraw.

@@xucydejakk0311 Honestly you don’t even have to trust the person. You tell them you want to exchange. They say how much. And you give the teller 1000 usd and then they write it on a paper, and the flippina account number to tie the transaction. They will instantly exchange for peso in front of you, and leave it on the table. You then grab the cash.

My first visit to the philippines, when I tried to withdraw money from ATM I got a message, "invalid card". I thought this meant NY American ATM card wasn't accepted by local atm. Eventually I learned it meant I was trying to withdraw more than the limit. Very misleading message. Lately I've seen more useful messages, like " withdrawal exceeds maximum amount". Im not sure if that's because I'm using different arms or if the messages have improved over time.

Limit is only for reporting. In the US there is no limit on how much you can bring. You must report any amount over the limit, if not and you are caught, they will seize any amount over the limit. P I will steal from you on every chance they can, dont give them an easy way.
