I fly Philippine Air from New York to Manila then transfer to Terminal 2 for my domestic flight to Bicol. But, I still carry my marriage certificate and my asawa stays with me as we present both US and Filipino (she is a dual citizen). And before I leave the Immigration officer, I check my passports for the Balikbayan stamp. Thanks for keeping us up to date on all whats happening.

Hi Jen I arrived here on January 19 and I noticed that the airport has improved a lot. The only thing I don’t like is the location where we need to get a ride. It’s a “sweaty” walk and you have to have a strength to hold and control your cart with your luggages on it or else you will be dragged down to the ground😅

I flew Starlux a year ago and had trouble with the ticket agent while using the balikbayan privilege. I did the same steps (showed proof, showed the policy, escalated to a manager). The manager called someone in Manila and we waited while they sent the person in Manila my documents for approval. I made the flight, but only because I insisted they explain what I had done wrong that I couldn’t travel as a balikbayan.

We had a similar situation with Korean Air in Dallas Fort Worth Airport. I have a 13A visa and am married to a Filipina. The clerk said I needed an onward ticket. It took some convincing but she finally gave us our boarding passes. Then when we for to Mactan a man close to immigration didn't know the etravel on my phone was a family thing and insisted my wife needed to have one. That also took some convincing.

Inday! Our experienced when we are checking in EWR via Singapore airline (Jan16, 2025) were, If you stay in Pinas for more than 30 days, we were required to have a Pinas Visa unless you have your original birth certificate or your old Pinas passport. no exception. luckily i have my old pinas passport with me.

@Jennifer, thank you for another helpful and enjoyable video! ❤ Similar to the Balikbayan Privilege problems at checkin, those of us with SRRV also face the same issue. Many checkin agents are not familiar with SRRV, where we are not required to have an exiting airline ticket when entering the Philippines. I have had to educate the agent, and it sometimes still involve a supervisor to intervene. So same as the BB. SRRV holders should have a copy of official government notice that states SRRV holders are exempt from needing an exiting airline ticket.

We had that issue back in July with Jet Blue.. We had to explain to them and pull up the website to show them. We also showed them our Philippines DLs and asked for a supervisor that is familiar with international travel. He came and informed them that we were correct and they apologized but I said a better apology would be to put us in first class after arguing with us for over 30 mins....

We have ever had any of these issues when we departed from Seattle to Cebu via Seoul or Taipe on EVA, KAL, or Asiana airlines having the gate person ask us questions, etc. Upon arrival in Manila or Cebu, immigration has never asked us if we are married or ask for proof to show. We always carry our documents with us just in case and mention that we desire the Balikbayan visa. I always check before we depart Immigration.

My wife and I had this problem in the early 2000's where the airline was using non-aircrew ground staff, the issue was the Balkibayan privalage details where at the bottom end of the check in staff's script, eventually they agreed that if I signed a waver for the airline not being required to pay for an exit flight they would let us on, of course in the Philippines there was no problem what so ever, it got me out of buying a return ticket so worth noting.

I'm sure they know. They're acting ignorance but actually they're waiting for you to pay a bribe. A co-worker of my husband who just returned from vacation there was even asked to pay $5 at the arrival pick up area, no receipt given. I'm sure it's not legit, just a pop up kiosk maybe with collusion of security personnel! Sorry but I don't trust Philippines airport personnel bc of bad experiences before. So beware!!

in 2023 we flew Delta and had a delay checking in and they called their supervisor who immediately sent us through. Last year we flew United and had no issues at all.

We live in the Philippines and are dual citizens, and even with PAL, we go through that when going to Japan on the return trip to the Philippines. The employees on Haneda and Sapporo/Chitose didn't get the memo on Balikbayans and Dual Citizens, resulting in an over half hour of explaining the situation each time - and this is PAL! I also had a problem with Etihad on Frankfurt asking us for a return ticket to the US, when we're actually coming home to the Philippines. Good thing we had our birth certificates and other documents with us.

The Philippines is making another MISTAKE My wife who is a Filipina and I visit every year with at least P500,000.00 to boost the economy. It seems like they are trying to keep people from visiting many will start going to Vietnam or Thailand. One year going to get a visa extended at immigration they tried to pull a fast one by trying to charge me for 2 when I Questioned why the price raise they said they forgot to charge the person before me I replied not my problem of course it was on the Friday before the long weekend of sinalog wonder how many they did this to nice payday for before the holiday.

Cebu Pac has flights from Iloilo to Hong Kong and Singapore and from Davao to Hong Kong and Bangkok. Qatar Airways has flights from Davao to Doha Scoot has from Davao to Singapore I believe more flights will start to use Clark in the future, especially now where New NAIA Corp is planning to ask Cebu Pac and PAL to transfer their ATR and Dash 8 respectively flight to Clark.

With Delta they dont have direct flights to Philippines and do code sharing. So im assuming official Delta agents are not familiar with the privilege rules. The biggest mistake is to book the whole complete flight through Delta. Its much better to book, here in ghe USA, to book domestic and international flights separately with at least 2-3 hours separating the domestic to international and vise versa on the way back

No, you wouldnt be able to because thats for people with connecting flights. They require itinerary/boarding pass. You can be picked up by Grab at T2. No need to change.

Call and ask your credit card company in the US. Some have no foreign transaction fees, depends on the type of card you have. Jennifer wouldn't know.

It is not uncommon for it to extend to 6 months or more, especially if there is some deficiency found in your Filipino visa requirements in terms of documents or information.

I Arrived back at 6:30 am landed terminal 1 took me 16 minutes from the time i landed to the time I cleared customs and immigration amazing a new world record then ofcourse in true PHILIPPINES custom, I was given the wrong information on what bus to choose for transport to terminal 3 causing a 15 minute delay in reaching my ube bus thus missing my bus home 😂😢 pfffffffff the PHILIPPINES 😢

I'm sure those Philippines airport employees know about the new benefit of 1 year free visa for balikbayans. Patay malisya kuno. Bobo ba sila trabaho nila yun di nila alam ang new rules or policies? Gimme a break! Naghihintay lang ng padulas/bribes, lumang modus na yan. Kapal muks ang mga tao dyan. Kung makakalusot, ilulusot! So be forewarned, know your rights & make noise!! And why is the Philippines dept of foreign affairs or bureau of immigration not send memos to all airports/airlines worldwide abt this new rule so there's no confusion when checking in for travel to the Philippines?! Easy & common sense fix!!

It doesn't depend on a particular airline. We experienced this with different airlines in Frankfurt and Hong Kong.The airport staff was not informed about the BB privilege. For us, it was always enough to show them the official Philippine government website. They asked us to wait, went to their superior,s and within a couple minutes everything was fine (with apologies included). So far, we never had to show a marriage certificate or anything. They just believe you need a return ticket and don't know about the BB regulations. So insist and don't give in, because the law is on your side.
