Money is a visa & immigration requirement. No money no entry. Why when you bring money with you as a tourist or visitor with no criminal record you're gonna be treated as a felon, money seized & land in jail for possession of your hard-earned cash or income? Why not upon discovery require the tourist to open a bank account, ATM card & credit card. This rude treatment of tourists is inhospitable, degrading, inhuman & very cruel. This is unreasonable legal theft & robbery of a visiting tourist. The tourist should only be required to deposit it at any bank of his choice available in the airport. This law is unreasonably & unconstitutionally confiscatory which should be abolished to encourage investments & tourism to fuel the local economy.
@Shattered65

You have no idea what you are talking about. ALL COUNTRIES have this law including the United States, it is part of an international treaty to stop money laundering by criminals. All countries require that you declare cash of amounts over USD$10k and provide an explanation of the source of the money and what you intend to use it for. They have the right to confiscate the money if it is undeclared. The usual procedure is that they confiscate the funds and hold them until you provide the required information about the source and then if there is no reason to withhold the funds they are then returned to the owner. The owner can be penalized for not declaring the funds but that is unusual unless they are uncooperative.

I would also like to add that if you do not inspect your US $ received at a Filipino Bank and then take that to a money changer, if they do not like the condition of the bills they can and will reject them. I have had to take them back to the bank which was no problem because the do annotate the serial numbers before they issue them to you, but it still creates a hassle. For me i kept the bills in my wallet and cashed them in the states.❤ word to the wise. Do not argue cause it will get you know where, keep your cool and this could help with future transactions.

Its NOT $10,000 or less ................. its $9,999 or less! If its 10k you are OVER the limit! Also , at the Australian end for example, the amount threshold is NOT "per person" its for the entire traveling party. Do NOT get caught out on this because there is actually a proper criminal charge for the offense of "splitting amounts on a per- person basis" You can take as much money as you want its just a quick simple form to fill out to declare it anyway.

Is there any advantage or disadvantage, of just withdrawing from a local bank or ATM? I learned the hard way, when I was there few week ago that banks will not exchange your US dollar if you don't have an account with them. Silly me I ran out of Peso. I went to a bank and expect to change my money but they refused me, and told to go to a money exchange instead, a bit odd but its their rules.

Accdg to Central Bank the threshold of $10,000 dollars is per person, therefore you and your wife can bring $10,000 each, but both of you have to be physically present…it’s on the video, you can watch it, 4:28 time stamp so you don’t have to watch the full video.

@@DAMIANSOTTO-yn9qs If you are leaving the United States, that is $10k USD per family and not individuals. there is no limit to carry but have to declare to CBP. I am surprised if Philippines say its per individual because they tend to copy the laws of the United States.
@DAMIANSOTTO-yn9qs

@@rowellprieto3509 In the United States, the dollar threshold for reporting the amount of cash you are bringing in or out of the country is $10,000 per person; this means you must declare to customs if you are carrying more than $10,000 in cash, regardless of whether you are traveling as a family unit or individually. Key points to remember: Declaration required: If you exceed the $10,000 threshold, you must fill out a FinCEN Form 105, which is a "Report of International Transportation of Currency and Monetary Instruments" at customs. No family limit: There is no separate family limit, each individual must report if they are carrying more than $10,000

@@DAMIANSOTTO-yn9qs According to your first response, you are saying a husband and wife in same household can carry 10K each. Are you stipulating this without declaration? I am on top of this law since I travel with my wife to PI every year accept 2021. Any amount is fine unless over 10K than must declare. And this declaration is for one family that one form is filled out altogether. So you can't just freely enter or exit the U.S. with 10K each without declaration. I have filed with CBP on many occasions and they are very particular when filling out forms. I have seen Families lose their money at the airport for carrying amounts over the threshold. Do not look at Central Bank as this is more important to review all the laws in the U.S. Customs and Border Protection website than a bank website. You can't site to CPB that you saw this 10K for each person on a Bank website and think they will allow it.

First, it’s not illegal to bring more than $10,000 but you have to declare it. Not declaring it is illegal..secondly, why bring that much money? You’re going on vacation, not buying a house.

the acceptance of "less than crisp" dollar bills in the Philippines: It is an ISSUE! We in the USA, still dealing with bills, will not give any thought to the appearance of the bills, but those money changers in the Philippines that often have a much better exchange rate than the banks, will inspect your bills VERY closely. They will refuse bills that have writing on it. They will refuse bills that have been folded often, worn, tiny bits missing, less than perfect corners and so forth. Use common sense when carrying your funds with you on your person and remember if you exchange hundreds of dollars at one money changer you will leave with a big stack of pesos, make sure you can accommodate these! All of Philippines knows Santa is here!

If you add $10,000 to your us bank account the same thing will happen. The US bank has to report the transaction to the feds and you'll have to explain it to them.. all back to money laundering, ie drug money, laws.

I don't think it's wise to carry too much cash into or anywhere for that matter. As far as money changers according to my experience, they will refuse every bill that doesn't look Brand New! Even a slight nick or mark will make them reject them. Too crumpled, etc. Get the new bills from your bank and inspect them in America first

As a Russian who has KGB-GRU FSB Intelligence agents surveilling all walks of Philippine life and recording everything to be reported to Moscow, we have all of the recorded proofs against Filipino corrupt practices that violates your most basic rights to PRIVATE PROPERTY OWNERSHIP. In Russia we have surveillance camera hidden everywhere and if someone tries to do such a thing then he or she is SENT TO SIBERIA!
