- Develop a basic competency of the basic strategies and techniques that you need to answer each question type - Take it slowly from the beginning, learn it step by step and then, - Apply that experience yourself - Reflect on that experience: what was so good about it? what wasn't so good about it? - Think about things you would do next time for when you would tackle that question The UCAT is a skills based exam. It really relies on you having a thorough thinking process for each question. Maximise the learning opportunity for every question that you attempt.

Basically, spend the time to understand each part rather than memorise. Hope that helps, please let me know any other questions that you have!

Hi Nausheen, definitely not! There is still plenty of time that is in your control to get started to take a good attempt at the UCAT. I recommend taking a look at iCanMed which is online and basically the reason I got into med.

Hey Archer!! I've been following you for a while but unfortunately, I did not follow your advice on getting an ATAR of 99.95. The Year 12 this year was rough for me due to my anxiety and depression and as such managed to only score an ATAR of 98.70. (I could've done much, much better). I've still set my sights on medicine, and I still really want to do it, but I'm just a little worried about my ATAR. I've heard 98+ is still good for medicine but I'm worried that I can't compete with other applicants. Since my UCAT was really bad this year, (I didn't study as you advised), I didn't end up with a good score and will be taking a gap year to redo the UCAT. I'm wondering if not all hope is lost for me.
@ArcherNewton4 жыл бұрын
Hi Jeydin, I definitely wouldn't say 'only' 98.7, that's within the top 1.5% of the nation and really close to 99! However, it does mean that this year the odds aren't necessarily in your favour, particularly with a low UCAT that can't boost your score up. As hard as it may feel right now, this could possibly be one of the biggest learning experiences for you in the future. Might not see it like that now, but in the future you may. A lot of my friends in my degree did gap years because they didn't make in the first time. You'll now also be able to figure out your plan to get into medicine. If you are really deadset on medicine, you'll now be able to put in the hundreds of hours of dedication and grit into the UCAT to get a very competitive score next year. Purely by the fact you scored a 98.7 in your first attempt, I feel its very possible for you to make change in a gap year. For some people, they don't treat it with nearly as much seriousness as it needs and just score the same as last year. In some states, you can actually do year 13 and try and improve your subject scores to ultimately increase your ATAR. I'd be more than happy to help out more in Instagram DMs if you want to have a chat. Hope that helps!

@@ArcherNewton Hi, Archer! I live in NSW and had to undertake the HSC. (Not sure if you're familiar with it since you're SACE student). However, re-doing doesn't seem like a viable option to me since it would cost so much and seriously not worth the effort. (We have to retake subjects in TAFE for $6000+ fee). And besides, I scored 90%+ in all my subjects, (minus Chemistry, which was not counted as I did another subject to placehold it which I scored 94%) and don't really think that re-doing it would affect much. However, I do have certified documents that can be used in EAS for bonus uni points. (Which were not only my anxiety and depression, but also years of family issues and traumatic events which inhibited my ability to study). It's just personally for me I just feel a bit pessimistic as I put in so much effort this year to come so close yet so far...I can't help but feel like this ATAR score is what really defines my intelligence and ability to understand things. I know it's a bit childish, but it does feel bad that I scored lower than what I felt I could've achieved.

Can you do the UCAT the year AFTER you graduate? If you’re taking a gap year?
@ArcherNewton4 жыл бұрын
Yep, you can always sit the UCAT. It just depends if you're able to apply to particular universities depending on what time of student you are. If you are a 'school leaver', meaning your most recent completed education is high school, then you're fine to apply to undergraduate degrees. This includes a gap year because your most recent completed education is still high school. Hope that helps, please let me know any other questions that you have!

Hi Archer, I was wondering how long did it take you to complete Verbal Reasoning? I'm going to take the UCAT this coming exam season and want to know if I am not too late to get all the sections done and prepared as I have not started at all.
@ArcherNewton4 жыл бұрын
Hi, I don't remember exactly but it was definitely the section that I spent the most time on since it's the one that most students struggle with the most. You're definitely not too late to get started, there are a ton of students still who haven't considered starting. I usually like to say in these scenarios that yesterday was the best time to get started, but today is the next best time to get started. I would say, definitely get started as soon as possible because it will be more difficult to prepare along with year 12 but if you start earlier, you'll give yourself more time to figure out potential issues and weaknesses. Hope that helps, please let me know any other questions that you have!

@ArcherNewton3 жыл бұрын
Hi Charlie! Ideally you want to be preparing for it now, in year 11, because there isn't much time in Year 12 when you're focusing on your ATAR. UCAT is also much harder than ATAR and I've never heard anyone say they had enough time to prepare for it. At quite a few unis the ATAR and UCAT are equally weighted so its just as important to focus on the UCAT now. Hope that helps :)
