Visual Novel Gameplay. More than just the X button. (O Button for Japanese imports) There is also the Up and Down for choosing the options at Flag Points. And the Tringle Button for Skipping previously read dialog and the X/O Buttons to halt the Skipping of dialog.

Heck a book replacement, there was a brief period of a few years when I was on a visual novel kick, I'd turn the blue screen off on my PC, and read a visual novel to help me fall asleep before bed, like you would a book. There are many reasons to play visual novels, a lot more in depth than just clicking 2 button... Clannad anyone? Apologies if I just triggered your eyes to weep uncontrollably.

Now now, let's be fair. Lots of games have visual novel elements, but also some degree of gameplay. Dangan Ronpa has the exciting courtroom logic-amid-rumors sequences, and some investigation before that, and a lot of faffing about hunting for coins and amusing environment feature descriptions and playing gacha with the coins... And then there's stuff like Steins;Gate, where every 5,000 boxes of filler text or so, you get to answer the damn phone... or not answer it. Wow.
