From my friend Bruce who works at a "We Buy Gold Shop" (and therefore in my mind has a qualified opinion on the matter) - "I use a napkin and just wipe it clean." Hope that helps!

What does it mean if it fails the 10k test but passes the 14 k and 18 k? I have a piece that is non magnetic and it did that....no marks either and it looks like a crafter person made it

it can not fail the lower test and pass the higher test, that is the point. It is an acid test of higher and higher concentrations.

I hope you know this is absolutely incompetent testing and there’s cons out there who can pass that magnet test and the acid test... as far as weight they can stamp and make bracelets that look good enough for them to get away with 10kt jewelry... and in reality they only used 1/3rd of the gold expected in a 10kt bracelet alike, I’m talking gold at levels hovering only 10% or so ... and inside they have copper and zinc melted together which makes it look gold so only drilling and looking inside won’t work too you’ll have to drill inside and pour acid inside.... oh and as far as copper and zinc, they’re non magnetic

your 10 karat acid is weak. no one is going to under karat .5 of a karat.
