How to activate gear shift indicator in BMW 1-Series (E81 E82 E87 E88 shiftlight)

Activate gear shift indicator in your BMW 1-Series (E81, E82, E87 or E88) with manual transmission. This feature will help you select correct gear to keep your fuel consumption low.

It started working by itself on my X1 E84(with no efficient dynamics) just by using the scond key 😀

Separate keys are using separate personal settings (radio presets, instrument cluster customizations, AC temperature memory...) so I think someone enabled this before using the second key.

This doesn't work on my 2006 E87. The BC button just changes to fuel consumption to average speed and so on. Any idea how to enable the gear shift indicator on my 118i?

AFAIK if the car is missing the BMW Efficient Dynamics, you would have to enable it with diagnostic interface.

@@mrfixpl So someone has to code my car, if I understand you correctly? Like with Carly? I have the Ancel AD410 but I am pretty sure I cannot enable BMW Efficient Dynamics with that. Thanks for taking the time to reply :)

It would be best if you find someone with diagnostic interface and check what can be coded into the instrument cluster. Ancel AD410 is great but it's just a generic scanner and it will not make any changes in your car.

You can use Carista or Carly for BMW - those will enable it with one tap on your phone.

Yeah, some report that you need to have the Efficiency Dynamics package for that to work. Sorry.
