I loved it! I especially liked how you outlined where you were drawing and going. Thank you for no boring music, and your fingers moving all over the place! So annoying!😮Keep up the great work! I really appreciate it.

I liked it. Nice and quiet with no music plus loads of helpful commentary. I think you are brave lol going straight to ink without a pencil sketch first. Most excellent!

Appreciate the quiet commentary without an obnoxious, repeating soundtrack. Always amazed how a blank piece of paper, can become something interesting to look at. A lofty goal but it still seems attainable.

Great demo Scottie. I’ll definitely give it a go. I desperately need to loosen up my style. I’m way too rigid/perfectionist and it’s hard to break out of it.
@SketchingScottie Жыл бұрын
Thanks 🤗. It is really challenging to loosen up the line work at first! I used lots of old scrap paper to practice sketching loosely before I moving on to more expensive watercolor paper👍🏼
@R_H21 Жыл бұрын
I can relate. I broke out of it by using a cheap 100g sketchbook and forcing myself to sketch with pen only. It teaches you to accept mistakes and move on. And once I could be looser, I moved on to watercolor paper with big brushes to avoid overdoing details. Happy painting!

Hi Scottie. I sketched this one along with you. I am quite pleased with the way it came out. I need practice. Right now I am sketching with a mechanical pencil. I do also sketch in ink. But while I am improving I will use the pencil for the sketches of people. Thank you!

very nice - i really like how you stepped through your process. I saw you could have stopped with a line drawing - would have been a great sketch. Could have stopped at the block color - would have been very nice. Could have stopped with small detail color - also would have been great. then the shadows and highlights with pen. beautiful. I saw four separate great images in this video. Very nice!

That was a tricky image and you made a great job of it. You mentioned that you are being loose in the sketch but it seems to me that you are also being very careful with line placement etc. Perhaps you could explain the balance of these things in a future video. Cheers

@SketchingScottie Жыл бұрын
yes you're right, to sketch someone in public you might need to sketch quicker, simplify the shapes and detail as well as sketching a lot smaller than this, while using the observation techniques that I explain here.

How long are you waiting between the sketching phase and watercolor phases? I grabbed a couple of Uniball Vison Elite pens and was testing them out and even though the package said “protects agajnst water” my lines bled when I watercolored on top of them and just didn’t know if it was a matter of waiting for the ink to dry. Actually I just checked and even after letting it dry over night my lines still bleed. I’m wondering if it’s my paper- Arches cold press that’s the problem.
@SketchingScottie11 ай бұрын
usually I can sketch straight after I finish the line work. sometimes I wait a few minutes and dry it with a hair dryer if I’m concerned about some bleeding when sketching faces. I use a Uniball eye (aka vision) Ultra Micro. so it’s not exactly the same pen as yours but I would have thought they have similar ink but maybe not. if it is the same it shouldn’t matter what paper you use. 🤔
@vincentvangoad11 ай бұрын
@@SketchingScottie cool thanks Scottie….i’ll grab one of those Ultra Micro pens as well to test out and see if there is a difference. Also just ordered a Lamy Safari to try with waterproof ink.Plus I’ll try the hairdryer trick with what I have already and see if that makes a difference.

Your paper feel like they can hold so much water, what kind of gsm paper would you recommend so that we don't have folded pages in our sketchbooks?
@SketchingScottie Жыл бұрын
I'm using 300gsm watercolor paper so it holds a lot of water. It is also 100% cotton paper which stays wetter for longer. But you could use anything between 200-300gsm for a sketchbook. If you have 200gsm just use water more sparingly. Cotton paper is pretty expensive so you don't need it. I also use Stillman & Birn Beta series sketchbooks which are 300gsm.👍🏼

@@SketchingScottie Thank you! Yeah I couldn't afford cotton to start learning. Appreciate the advice! Love your stuff!
