As an international student from Brazil, I'm quite confused about how schools assess academic rigor, especially considering the American standard of difficulty. I would appreciate it if someone could clarify this for me. I'm enrolled in a kind of technical course that includes some subjects typically seen in the early years of college. I'll list my high school subjects to give an idea of how rigorous my high school education might be for American colleges: Mandatory subjects repeated every semester: - Biology - Chemistry - Physics - Brazilian and World History - Sociology - Arts - Physical Education - Spanish - Portuguese - English - Mathematics - Geography Technical subjects: *Sophomore Year: - Electricity and Magnetism 1 - Technical Drawing - Dimensional Metrology - Occupational Safety - Professional Ethics *1st Semester Junior Year: - Electricity and Magnetism 2 - AutoCAD (Computer-Aided Design) - Machine Elements - Mechanical Processes - Linear Electronics - Technology and Resistance of Materials *2nd Semester Junior Year: - Mechanical Processes 2 - Electrical Systems and Machines - Electrical Installations for Buildings - Hydraulic and Pneumatic Systems - Digital Electronics *1st Semester Senior Year: - Power Electronics - Machinery and Equipment Maintenance - Industrial Automation - Quality Maintenance Management - Electronic Welding I'm sorry for the lengthy comment, but I'm truly lost in this college admissions process.

currently a junior and i'm not expecting to get into any top schools, however i really like your first point. college is just a small part of someones life and isn't the final determining factor, your direction/goal is more important. i believe that i can get to where i want without going to a top school (for right now i just want to be financially stable, have a job i enjoy, have enough money to buy some things i want, travel and just enjoy life honestly.) of course depending on the field it will be harder, and top colleges do indeed give better resources and networking. but the school is not what makes someone successful nesscessarily, as it largely depends on the student. i currently still don't really know what i want to do with my life, but i want to study something in stem like cs or kinda related to stem like economics. both are pretty flexible majors. i will keep working on myself and do my best with the opportunities that i have access to.

Great video. I would really enjoy hearing your story. Have you ever considered making a video about your application?

You just extracted my entire train of thoughts about building identity. I watched both this and the other video about Ivy league, turns out we share the same view on it

The 3rd concept really underscores how screwed up admissions into the top universities is: The rich probably spend a ton of money on consultants early on in their lives (before high school) to hold their hands to help guide them on how to craft the perfect 'story'. Strict objective merit (i.e. standardized tests) are really the only fair criteria for admissions. Great video though.

Ideas shared are true for people in developed countries.... For Developing and underdeveloped countries people are very much absorbed into making livlihood. They wont care about the society, cleanliness, campaigns of a high schooler..... its a different world.

Ummm, consistency issue. "Some dude who wants to buy a lambo?" at 1:20 mark and the illustration is clearly not a lambo but a bugatti?
