So for those who are reading comments while listening to the video, stop it, and watch the whole video it literally gave me a drastic change in my mindset I keep revisiting this, this was the only thing that made me realize things differently, I have seen a lot of "How to overcome procrastination" sort of tips videos and they were all so repetitive. I already knew them, and those didn't help me enough. Still, I am telling you, if you could sit with all your focus and attention for at least 9 mins 36 seconds, and if you understand the message, you will save a lot of years ahead, this is a great theory and I respect this man!

@@jrtg1990 I think a strong identity change beats everything for procrastination. I've tried everything and fallen to that concept. If you want a good video about it then search "Hamza unfiltered what I've never told you about getting consistent." Just watch that video and remind yourself that you're disciplined. You might find it woo woo, but It worked for me more than any other woo woos out there. I'd highly recommend watching that if your procrastination is purely out of laziness, if it is because of the fear of failure, then you might need a mindset change and not some procrastination tricks as none will work through that, I'd recommend listening to Alex Hormozi's videos, I don't know which one but he says that the only way to get better is by doing more, and the more you do, the more you'll fail in the early days. Alex hormozi's content about helped me with my fear of failure, and Hamza's video helped me fix my identity to a disciplined man, and therefore it was easier to stop being lazy as the consequence was losing my new (and better) identity. This all might sound too much fragile and delicate and you might just want to use the willpower, but in the longrun, the more will power I save, the more I can use it for uncomfortable shit.

@@thecodingarchitectexactly. People underestimate the capacity of older philosophies simply because they think their forced education and forced improved nutrition means they aren't as "simple" as yogis or stoics. Not blind faith, but actual philosophy of life. Every person has equal capacity to be worse, or better.
@EastmanEditing9 ай бұрын
@@cusillo6976 Yes! Sometimes we just need to hear it said in a different way because over time, we end up linking these philosophies to the wrong things, or in the wrong way, such as, "If I don't become a CEO of my dream company by the time I'm 35, that means I will have failed at life, all because I chose to be a lazy bum!!!" Or simpler, "If I don't get this project done today, I WILL get fired and I WILL be homeless and DIE." Or, simpler yet, "If I don't finish this project today, I won't be able to have ANY fun this weekend with my friends." That last one may even sound like a good thing to tell yourself, but that actually can make things worse inside your head. It's easy to spiral into an "all or nothing" mentality where every day feels like the entire weight of your world rests on completing something to 100% perfection by EOD, rather than understanding (and I mean TRULY and fully understanding in your mind and soul) that each moment is only a choice that can help and assist your future self, or alternatively, set back your future self. It's not "all or nothing." It's just doing "something." And it's not actually meant to make you feel guilty or to make you feel like a punishment awaits you if you don't do that something, it's "simply" to help yourself by just taking one single step now. NOT because your boss will be happy that you did the work you needed to get done on time, and NOT because you will impress your parents or friends if you become a rich CEO, and not even because you'll ruin your weekend if you don't do something today. But simply because you are offering a helping hand to yourself, even if it's just in some small way today. The same way you'd offer to help a friend carry one of their bags inside if they were coming to visit you. You are carrying a bag for one of your "future selves" so that they won't be overwhelmed and overburdened tomorrow. Or next week. Or 10 years from now. If you "only" carry one bag today, you still may not be able to hang out with friends this weekend. BUT, if you get in the habit of carrying a bag a day starting right now, then maybe a month from now you will have your weekends back. Or your clean garage back. And soon after that, you may have your sanity back

Reframing my day as the only day the current me is alive really helps put procrastination into perspective. Unfortunately I am tortured by ADHD and I don't procrastinate that much but some days it's like trying to lift a 1 ton weight and it can really cascade and domino from there. It's really helpful to see videos like these that can help motivate me even beyond what ADHD is doing to weigh me down. I live in fear of what I could've become if only I could stay focused longer and with more quality. I'm going to try and remember that each new day is a life and death scenario as well as the community of myself that I need to stop freeloading off of. As my way of saying thanks for this video I've liked it and wrote this comment and I'm going to share it to a few of my friends to help boost your metrics for youtube.

And not tomorrow, but today you'll be happy you chased so long as you don't believe anyone who has settled with their excuse.

I feel the one ton weight thing. For me, what’s helped the most (I think) is to realize that I can’t directly change how I feel about a task that my brain doesn’t want to engage with, but I *can* experiment to find ways to overcome those feelings. For some things, like loading the dishwasher, I just made myself do it over and over until it no longer felt like a big deal. For other things, I usually try to figure out what it is about the task that makes it feel bad, and then try to figure out how I can work around that. Example: Sometimes I need to fill out annoying, repetitive forms at work? I save my responses in notes so I can copy & paste from the last time I did a form, then just update it wherever it needs to be changed. There isn’t always an obvious way to reduce the friction of a task, so if I can’t think of any better strategy, I try to commit to spending five minutes on it. That amount of time is usually enough to overcome at least some of the negative feelings, so it’s easier to keep working on it than it was to start. Anyway, my advice is to stop blaming yourself and start experimenting with different ways to compensate. Good luck!

It can be difficult if it's a particular dream job that you just can't quite reach because most of us can't be lucky enough to have what the world considers a "Dream job," but if it's something coming from external sources, such as feeling ashamed that you haven't lost as much weight as other people who work out as much as you do, or you haven't gotten a promotion in years despite working longer and harder than everyone else in your company, then you can start to examine why other people's lives should even compare to yours in the first place. As long as you're happy and/or content, that's all that matters. And if you're unhappy, that's another angle you'll have to dig into. Are you unhappy because you're ashamed? Or are you unhappy because you wish you were doing something else? Both of those things can be solved. Even if you think the ONLY way you'd ever possibly be happy is if you were an Olympic gymnast but you're 38 and have never taken a gymnastics class in your life...even then, you can take an adult gymnastics class to scratch that itch. Then, you'd just have to do some inner work to be able to come to the place that is understanding and forgiving of yourself, knowing that you will never be in the olympics, but perhaps you can get a job at a local gymnastics facility. Maybe you can find a position where you can assist someone who IS an olympic gymnast, even if it's just carrying their bags and holding their water bottle for them. If that's not enough, then it wasn't the gymnastics that you cared about most. It was status, fame, and "success" from a world viewpoint. If knowing you may never become a famous athlete or business mogul is too painful to bear, it might help to learn about all of the struggles that even the most successful athletes have in their life. And then compare that to the people who are TRULY happy who may have incredibly mediocre jobs and lives. Or they might have a really successful career, but one that they only achieved once they figured out how to be happy with themselves first. In other words, the happiest people aren't happy because they're successful or beautiful or perfectly fit. They're happy because they love themselves no matter where they're at in life. Not that they don't still have hard days where they're angry with themselves or sad about choices they've made, but they always have that underlying love. The same way you may be really angry at a loved one but still love them and care for them deeply.

Damn, never thought I'd meet someone with the same theory as mine...it's indeed true that you don't own your ideas, the universe works with frequencies...and only individuals with said frequencies that has been attainable through deep thinking and observations can listen to the universe ... The thought process shared in this video is one of them...❤

honestly great tips but definitely they are not for everyone. It's a problema that people that are naturally high efficient have, they tend to think that everyone will also be able to just go heads first into the the right midset based on analogies and that will work out. I personally tried a lot of times, every type of scenario you can imagine, my biggest flex is the power of my imagination, but that never translated into will power (despite my living circumstances being actually a big motivator for a lot of people, aka being poor and from a third world country). But i hope it can help others.

Another day and I'm off to bed Time to lay down my weary head To dream and sleep I close my eyes And for the night lay down to die I wait for mornings precious breath To wake me from the night of death To give me yet another chance That I might jump and sing and dance. One more chance to look and smile At someone who's been sad awhile Help those I meet along the way Please dear Lord just one more day. Verse by Daniel R. Douglass Copyright 12/12/2010

That's interesting. I don't have a stable sense of self (bpd) and I've always described my life as one of those old ViewMaster toys where one moment you're looking at a beach scene and the next moment you're somehow in a forest with no continuity between them. However, my procrastination isn't so much about kicking the can down the road for me to deal with later. It's that the person I am now doesn't want to do the thing and I won't be here tomorrow to deal with it. Some other future-me (not the same me as today) will have to deal with it.

I will still have my neurodiversity tomorrow. I actually don't think that thinking I'll have more time is the reason. This seems like a way more sophisticated form of shaming. You are telling us what we think and what motivates us. I think you might be talking to yourself, dude.
@rasmachris948 ай бұрын
I think this only works from a neurotypical lens. It's not like I distract myself intentionally and intentionally put off doing tasks. I dont recall. How do i remember to recall? How do I remember to recall to remember? It's endless. The only thing that's somewhat beneficial to me is having a white board that is screwed to the back of my bedroom door. I see the board - it's empty. I write what I'd like/need to get done for the day. I see the board - it has things to do - I do them now because i cant afford to waste time because wasting time means I'll forget and do something else. I do something else? - I go to walk out of my room - i see the board. I see my list, get back on track. I still dont have plans figured out, anything that happens or takes me out of my room is completely a bust. But it helps a little and I'll take the small wins.

@@rasmachris94it’s works for both. I have ADHD and I implemented this mindset about a month ago. I guess the most important thing about this is the mindset and everyday you wake up that mindset reminds you. The technique you just mentioned is very very effective for me and I’ve been doing a version of it over 5 years. I combined both techniques and I have to say, it’s not a magic cure, but it helps tremendously.

I put off so much by watching KZbin videos... But seriously, this is a great discussion that really puts things into perspective. What helps me to get things done is to create and use checklists. I have one for everyday tasks that must be done and one for projects. But I don't just list the name of a project; I break it down into smaller, more manageable tasks and tackle them one at a time. I've accomplished so much this way.
@BobrLovr10 ай бұрын
this is not very useful at all, in fact this mentality is likely what CAUSES the procrastination in the first place. Self acceptance and a shedding of the shame that binds you is more likely the solution. Expectation becomes a vice around your neck, and makes it nearly impossible to find joy in anything, and when you no longer see your craft as "play" thats when growth ends. Think about it, children are the #1 when it comes to growth and everything to them is play. A child literally learns to walk by falling a lot, it isn't until we've had teachers and parents shame us for failures that we learned to avoid struggle and tribulation.

Well.. I feel like there are two interpretations from this video. One is that you can recognize how precious life is and how you should be grateful for everyday and try to use it to the fullest. The other fuels your guilt for not doing these things, which doesn't help with your problems but instead contributes to them. I think there is a decent blend of these ideas. Don't feel guilty, but try to keep on keeping on. It sounds like an incredibly tedious tight rope, and that's because it is, but I still find it to be manageable and useful. Maybe it's not for everyone, but I find that the ideas that this video supports to be very appealing.

None of this advice will help. Nobody cares about future versions of themselves. You have to have something that will make the process of the activity enjoyable today, otherwise you will not be motivated to continue doing it for a long time. And if you can't find some way to make it either incredibly easy or enjoyable to do, you will not do it unless something serious is taken from you or serious harm is being done to you.. And sometimes even then you wont change.

oh this is so smart and touches on something i did in the past. i have OSDD-1B but my system fused earlier this year. while i still resent the way it fucked with my boundaries and sense of identity, the sense of community and purpose i got from sharing my mind with several streams of consciousness was something that really carried me through all the shit i was going through, but now that im only living for me and my goals it's been really hard to move forward. doing things for the group of my future is such a valuable and intuitive way to look at it. i also think this is why a lot of systems prefer the idea of functional multiplicity to fusion, having people who are you to count on your to make their lives better is a very comfortable motivator.
